DML E100, corrected hull

Excellent, a well deserved thumds up. I love the use of primer red. I will say that I've seen the red go from a real gloss red to an almost brown. Using this red as a base colour for your camo makes an excellent balance.

Thanks guys, for taking the time to comment; I appreciate the appreciation of the paint job, as well as the criticism!

I actually agree that there was something compelling about the two-yone scheme; even the basic primer red was pretty unique too. I guess I just couldn't "feel" the whole tank like that--maybe because it's so unique, and so BIG! I probably WILL do some late-model tank in overall primer red; maybe one of the other smaller E series?

I like the whole "land battleship" look of it, with all the gun barrels sticking out of it! I'll be working on some weathering the next few days and I'll have some more pics up by the weekend!  

Personally never liked the polka dot camo but you pull it off well. Very nice. Thank god for silly putty  

Have fun with the tracks. (knitting for the armor modeler)

 Well, I have to admit, if ever there was an alternate 3 color camouflage then this would be it. Just a beauty of a job.

And you haven't finished it yet.

I am in agreement with redleg: I too have never been a fan of the ambush schemes, but you made it look great. Very subtle shading, which will only be enhanced with weathering. Good job.

One thing I did notice, the loader's hatch (right top of the turret) looks like the colors should be reversed: it looks like the camo was applied while the hatch was open. Maybe it is supposed to be that way, but it seemed odd to me.

I'm almost done!! .....just had to get the color for the IR unit correct, and finish up the weathering!

Well, here it is--the corrected DML E-100. I finaly finished it, thanks to some good info and help from some of you guys who helped out with info on the IR set on the front hull. I had a difficult time deciding whether to paint it with a red tint or blue; with apologies to granddadjohn, I finally decided to go with Kykeon's photo which seemed to corroborate the other evidence from the PanzerMuseum at Munster. Thanks to all of you though for weighing in, as well as everyone else who helped me through this build!

Here's the shots---Tamiya Acrylics used (as usual), with oil washes and filters ( I did do a very mild "dot" method on this tank) and MIG powders for weathering. Sorry, dial up guys! 

Here you can see the added rear hull lips right above the rear idler wheel, missing from the kit, as it's designed to be displayed with the big sideskirts. I just couldn't see them wearing them in city fighting--it'd be like driving a house through the rubble? 

...as I said, the IR set gave me fits trying to decide the right color. I decided on a bluish-black tint which seemed to match photos. I figure most modelers would see the photos first before they might actually talk to someone who has worked with them, and that would be taken as the "standard"? I may be wrong, but I'm happy with the look......

I thought this might be what a shell hit on a spare track might look like?

...and the gray primer I chose for the gun..it's panzer gray with washes and filters of white, olive green, and white...

A size comparison, for those who asked,,,,"Out of the way, Sherm-doog!" LOL! (Sorry--the Hetzer is secured to it's base and couldn't come out to play! )

Well, let me know what you think? I know it's a bit "conceptual" but I figured that I had a fair degree of latitude in deciding what might plausibly be added to this "paper panzer"?

WOW....Just stunning.... Probably your best yet Doog! I love the whole "battle weary" look, Especially the shell hit on the spare track links! and the fact that you even added the pins in the spare tracks! Outstanding! Can't wait to see what Hanz & Franz get into next!

Very nice piece of work Doog!

My only comment is about the spare track/shell hit and it's just information only, take it for what it's worth. Tank track aren't hardened steel in the sense that armor plate is and the fact that they are connected only by a rod pin to each other and to the spare track holder would dictate how they would behave if struck by a high velocity round. This would mean that any sort of hit to them would not leave one link in place/intact and the other splattered as you have depicted. Assuming it was an AP round and not HE or HEAT, it would've penetrated easily through the link and continued to attempt to penetrate the hull due to the kinetic energy at work. For the idea to work, I would think that you would be much more likely to have a torn away hanger, no links present, and a prominent scar on the hull as a result. Just my . The idea is a great one and very creative.

The details of battle damage are excellent. The hit on the track looks great. Now the next question....what scene are you going to create for Hanze and Franze and their new wheels!!

Circuitrider--man, I laughed out loud at that comment about the "flabby buns"! LOL! I remember quite a few skits where they would use that term! Talk about cracking me up! Thanks for the comment and the laugh!

wbill76--Thanks for that info, Bill; I was afraid of that, and kinda wishy-washy on adding that track link....but the more I thought about it, I kinda looked at it like this is a hypothetically-portrayed tank, in a hypothetical configuration and in a camo scheme of the same, so so much of it is subjective "Art" that I thought that the shattered link just kinda fit into the whole "Hollywood" impression of it---does that make sense?! It seems to have made the impression here that I was hoping it would...I do appreciate the comment though; I didn't really know that with veracity. It'll be a good thing to know when I'm building a "real" tank that I want to "hyper-accurize". Thanks!

Perfection doogie boy, perfection, other than the link, that's what you've got in this build. The shattered tracklink may be incorrectly portrayed but its aesthetic impact is as impressive as the round that took it out.

An absolutely beautiful rendition of what could have been.

No worries doog, just information as I mentioned. I think you captured the "what-if" aspects of this build from start to finish extremely well. The splattered look definitely stays with you and is a very creative touch to the overall look. I can just imagine the headache for Hans and Franz after that impact...or maybe it didn't even register given the massivity of the beast?
