Doog, that is an amazing piece of work. I've been holding off making a comment on this build as I wanted to wait and see what you did for the diorama, and I am speechless. Excellent work!

So long folks!

Now, doog. This is very interesting because you didn't start this project that long ago at all and it looks like an international IPMS winner, yet, IPMS winners spend upto a year on their entry, but still wouldn't look as good as that.

Go figure

At the end of the day one's work may be completed but one's education never!

Ian--Thanks! To do the groundwork, I put real dirt down over the dried Celluclay. Then, I cut up some swaths of typical railroad-style grass that I found in my LHS into 5-6 mm lengths, and then mixed those in a container with crushed-up real autumn leaves that I had collected last year. The sprinkled this mixture over white glue over the dirt. Some longer grass swaths went into holes drilled into the base, and spread with my tweezers to lay right. I ezpect now that you'll go on to present some masterpiece in the next few weeks using this technique? If I know you...? LOL! [;)

To qote the Harry Potter movie my sister is watching...."Brilliant!"  Somehow I always thought of those long railroad grasses for just tall field clumps standing straight up, never thought of cutting them up and using them as more traditional grasses.  I'll have to go some of that Woodland Scenics grass I have sitting around.  I'm not sure which I enjoy more in your tutorials--the pure content and pictures, or the detailed steps and willingness to share techniques in your responses.

Doog, Istand in complete and total awe of your modeling skills.Bow [bow] Everyone has already pointed out all the great details, so I'll just a say "WOW!" to the entire build and the tutorial which you published on this forum.

As an example of the excellence of the build, I showed the pictures to my wife, who is not a real big modeling fan, and she was as amazed as I am.

WOW. guys--I have to be honest; I'm a bit humbled at both the volume of compliments and all of the overwhelmingly positive tone of your comments! Blush [:I]

To be honest, I was originally a bit worried about what the consensus might be about the setting and the whimsical theme which I chose; I know that some might have preferred a more "traditional" setting, but again, I'm just very grateful for your flattering commentary! Smile [:)]

Mike (redleg)--Absolutley! I will be writing this up for a hopeful Finescale submission--are you listening Aaron and Matt?! Tongue [:P] Hopefully, I'll continue to have the same luck with it, and see it in print? Thanks for your nice compliments!

LOL! Wink [;)]

Boyd, and modelnerd--thanks for your nice cmpliments too!

MaxSheridan--LOL! EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! Laugh [(-D] You know, I actually thought of maybe putting in a skeletal figure into the foreground of this dio, but then thought that that would be just a little morbid?...Whistling [:-^]. But yeah--that scene DID cross my mind! LOL!

vespa boy--what a nice thing, to get a compliment from one of the most uniquely talented miniature specialists around! Wink [;)] Thank you! The six-pack holder is a Photoetch kit available from Detail Master--they have a set called "INterior Junk" that comes with clothes hangers, CD's, eye glasses, etc; the cans themselves are from Scale Equipment LTD. I'm not sure how many more auto dios I'll do, but I can tell you this won't be the last junker I do! Smile [:)] Thanks for your comments!

..and speaking of miniauture specialists--thanks daveinthehat!! I got the idea for the tree from your fine tutorial on your website there--thank YOU sir! Big Smile [:D] You've got some MAD skills yourself!!!

fox, Mike H, and Dr Faust--thank you for those nice words!

ski4jeepin---LOL! Don't quit! Laugh [(-D] I hope you can use the tips I gave here to create your own personal rust bucket! Thank you!

Daywalker, wow, thanks for the kind words! I appreciate your compliments!

666Irish, acmodeler, and leemitcheltree--thank you, also, for the nice compliments! I will be entering this in the SYRCON regional in October or so. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Big Smile [:D]

SteveM--wow, a whole "Doog issue" LOL! Cool! YOu know, to be honest, I've actually been really rather busy getting ready for work over in Germany for a month or so between June 14 to July 14th; I'll be gone for that perioid. But I guess I just do a little here, a little there, and manage to get things done somehow...if I was racing more this summer, THEN I'd be REALLY busy maintaining the bike-- but I cant get hurt for this upcoming work period...Sigh [sigh]. So I'm only riding for pleasure right now, but I'll be back in cmpetition by August! My output will suffer for the next few months however. SO I guess I'm glad to have finished this one, and gotten such a nice response from everyone until I get time to finish the next project--whatever that might be? Thanks for your compliments!

Again, to all who have commented; Thank you sincerely for all the positive feedback! It's sincerelyboth  humbling, and inspiring, to know that you enjoy my work here as much as I enjoy presenting it! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Karl the doog Big Smile [:D]

Totally worth the wait! I think the mag could devote an entire issue to your builds, toots, tricks, tips, etc. Doog's Fine Scale Moodeler. I'd pick up a copy.

I'm envious of your talent, and jealous of your available workbench time.

A show-stopper for sure! I love it, the ground work really ties it all together. Ditto whoever mentioned the cans, both on the ground and in the engine. The tree is very well done and a nice touch. I don't think there is anything missing, it is one of those that you will find something new each time you look at it. Very impressive!

Doog,
I have to say that you've created one of the most realistic, well presented dios I've seen in a long time.  Exemplary craftsmanship - in every respect.
I'm very impressed - you should enter that one in the next model contest that is on the calendar.  I'd be surprised if you didn't win something.

Cheers, LeeTree

Phenomenal is really the only word I can think of. Amazing work!!!

Show winner for sure. Maybe one of these days I'll get up the nerve to enter something for judging!

doog-

This is one of the most thought out, well designed dios I have had the priveledge of looking at!  Your attention to detail is truly amazing, like the empty jugs behind the seat, the old can on the intake, half-finished six pack, passenger side window off of the track, I could go on and on...

Your paint distress is spot-on!  It really captures that beater look.  I really, really wish I could see this one in person.  My hat's off to you, you really outdid yourself on this one Karl.  Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

This dio ROCKS!!!

Doog its great to see you stretch your limbs on a non military dio. Its really a nice piece of work. I like the ground cover and foliage a lot. Lots of very detailled plants and debris. Where did the six-pack holder come from?

Hopefully you've caught the 1/24th scale bug and will keep on making more auto dios.
