no p.o. they're very much 3d. i actually tore the shingle in spots making the "cracks". the one in the middle after making the "hole" i took my exacto to and made them but only the one in the middle! because i posted on dio forum too i wanted to only show "top" view of the road and not the building! hence the more "2d-ish" look!

Good to know- in that case, then yeah!! This is awesome!! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't like black sharpie pen or something-

That not being the case- this is one of the nicer 1/35 scale roadways I've seen!! Well done camo

AAAwwwwww..... you GOT me!!! Ok, Ok .... your model just STINKS camo! Is it a dio or a garbage can! You should take it outside and BBQ it ..... no wait!, keep it on your workbench and BBQ it! That way your bench gets it too and you can never again create such horrid work! IF you must build, you should just recreate junkyards or blown up septic tanks! That's w/in your grasp .....

... your work IS good, camo. Really good. I just wish you would hurry up and finish the base already so I can see your figure work!

Nice catch, again BTW, on the shingle. I've added it to my "cheat book" of methods.

haaahahahahahah I'm adding one of these blown up septic tanks to my first Iraq dio! haahahahaha

But yeah -no one here's pulling you leg, this is great! And don't let model talk you into speeding things up, you're moving faster than my pase- he's just crazy!!

I agree on the shingle- dad's got a bunch of the old tar type, going to using this in the future!

whooommmp Black Eye [B)]... whoooommpp whoooommp Black Eye [B)].....ouch!!! Dead [xx(] damn dude...i said i was my own worst critic!!! Evil [}:)] never have i had it put so bluntly b4...LOL!! that one's gonna take awhile for the sting to go away... Laugh [(-D]

n/p about the shingle's guys. recommend what i did was take a rough grit sand paper to the edges (if u cut it to shape/size)...oh and use the back side guys!!! Dunce [D)] dont think that one needs explanation!! it paints nice, washes fine...have to control the rips and such so you dont over do it or rip the thing in half!! that's it...no real work involved! oh btw, you might want to spray some white glue solution or something to the "good side" (the side not being used ut would be face up on a roof), those little "rocks" continuously fall out and maybe with a fixative on them it wont happen as much! just a thought!

blown up septic tank.....you guys!!!!

Very nice colors!! Good work on eyeballing it- they came out dead on IMO- you're pretty good at pulling colors out of no where- same on the "green" splotches on the 3-tone desert.

Can not wait to see some weathering- unfortunitly the shape some of these curbs are in- I wouldnt be surprised to see you take this all the way back down to the origional concrete! Laugh [(-D]

Have fun at the inlaws! The dial-up sounds like a blast!

thanks p.o. you have no idea the battle i had with that yellow!!! LOL. but thanks for the comps anyway. as far as "pulling colors out of nowhere"...dude, if you only knew how much paint i have....LOL....colors....the colors....all i see is colors....i have a color for probably everything out there. even sent a guy here on the forum a few bottles...didnt even make a dent!!!

anyway, i know the curbs are "out of scale" a bit...but in the long run...i'm o.k. with that. where as model might get upset, start yelling at everyone then change it 100 times.... j/k buddy!! Laugh [(-D] speaking of that...

model, if you read this, i hope your not discouraged by what anyone said about your fig. sorry but i really really think you have done tremendouos with it from start to finish. all the wire work and lights your doing on this next one...even better...(even better u than me Laugh [(-D]). just doing the marpat alone...i need to put that on my figs in my dio...i havent even tried to paint that kind of a pattern yet. one thing i accept with my modeling and just everyday life...there's always someone better than you no matter what it is...you cant fight it you cant worry about it you cant change it....your figure just with that dio alone was better than i think i could ever do...but that's ok...you gave me something really cool to look at Thumbs Up [tup]. put it in the gallery, it very well deserves its placement there! just my My 2 cents [2c] buddy!

going to enjoy doing nothing for the whole weekend....dial up sux but that's ok. i'll look in during the weekend...expect you two to have some posts!!!! p.o. keep an eye on this guy...he needs some motivation...as do you!! lol.

Sounds like quite the collection! You should take a shot of your paint room (kinda like model's spare parts room Laugh [(-D]) next time you make an update!

just doing the marpat alone...i need to put that on my figs in my dio...

Shock [:O] Never mix an Army man with a Marine! I hear they get angry!! haha ACU, sometimes called ARPAT (Army Pattern)?? is not MARPAT (Marine Pattern) Tongue [:P]

I'm sure you know the difference just giving you a hard time on that typeo camo

haha I do need some motivation- I need time though too- that's for sure. As far as the curb being a little big.. eh oh well, it's Iraq, maybe they forgot their tape measures at home and just made a really big pour mold for the concrete?

I'm worried about him too camo- he's suddenly gotten very shouty and half crazed... some kind of future update/new project we have to keep an eye out for... Blindfold [X-)] getting a little nervous hahaha

But model- in all seriousness, I agree with camo- your OIF figure looks great, I think as soon as you're happy with the nameplate- weather or not you do anything to the rocks is your call alone, I think they look fine and they never distracted me nor looked out of place, however I was a little closely involved in the project- so maybe taking into account the new pair of eyes that are impatial having never seen it up until now might be worth it a bit.

Hey guys, thanks for your encouragement. I won't really spill into it as I want to keep the post focused on the thread ... But, thanks for that.

Camo, your work is AWESOME!!! Nice catch on the colors. Sometimes it just takes a little longer to get a color right .... it happens. But nice job.

Just so that you guys know. I'm going to be making a couple more updates tomorrow and Saturday and then that will be it for me for a bit. I'm going to the field for about 3 weeks so I'm expecting you guys to keep things going. (i.e. ... someone has to play the angry, crazed guy in my place! HAHA!) I doubt that I'll be able to check in at all, but if I get the chance, I'll be sure to drop in and say hello and check out your updates.

Thanks again guys for the compliments.....

BTW, camo, you said that you're going to be painting your guys with ARPAT? I thought that they were going to be in the tri-color uniforms? What year(s) of OIF are you going for? If you need it, I'll shoot you a PM about the ARPAT .... just let me know.

and just because p.o. wondered....LOL....here are all my paints, i warned ya....LOL.

ignore the models!!!

these are 3 full boxes!!

and somewhere in all of this...i think i missed a few bottles.....LOL.

have fun in the field model!! once again..."better u than me"!!! Laugh [(-D]

yes u did p.o. that's tamiya's m1a2. w/ p.e. parts, etc. that's the one i jokingly put on my dio but realized it was just stupid big!!! the other models hiding in there i just use to keep my paint from escaping....LOL. anyway, its all very much good paint and as u can see works quite well. a local hobby shop was moving down the road so i went in and got it all for a steal. i'll never use it all but i have it. like i said, i even sent "a few bottles" to a guy in the forum. notice i tried to avoid showing my "work area"...LOL. i started out with the floquil paints, moved on to the vallejo, then the tamiya, finally to the humbrol. there's another acrylic brand in there but i forget at the moment what it is. anyway, i barely....BARELY, used the acryllic paint (other than to hand paint and only vellejo) b4 i moved onto the humbrol. (m.h.o. the best paint out there). and that's my boring story of my paints....LOL. Propeller [8-]

Makes sense to me- wish I had had the $ (or the storage room!!) to buy up a lot of paint before the local hobby shop closed down. They're out in West Virginia now...

Looks like I'll have to try some Humbrol paints then

Hey np camo ....

Here's an *****UPDATE***** (a small one) for my part of the "Mosul Group Build" (HAHA!)

So, I started off by finishing up one of the helmets, mating the ACH w/ the NVG. Looks decent enough I think. I'll be going back and fitting the rest of the helmets with the NVG in the down position. This one just happens to be up for the guy attaching the charge to the door.

Here, I HAD decided to put a flashlight in the guy's mouth, run FO through it, and then light the charge on the door. .... This is no longer going to happen. I just decided that it looked funny and the FO wouldn't put THAT much light on the door. So, I'm going to go back and refill the mouth and reform the lips. I also began making the helmet straps using folded masking tape.

And here, I'm just testing the helmet fit and the placement of the straps ... looks good to me.

I haven't gotten a lot done on this one. I kinda feel like a rushed into it w/o really going through my "normal" planning motions. So, it's going a little slower than I'd like. I'm more or less going through it with a "trial and error" procedure. Hopefully, while I'm away from the bench, I'll be able to collect my thoughts on this one and be ready to crank it out when I return home.

But, eventually, it'll come out. Thanks in advance for any comments ....

yeah, i'm glad ya decided to ditch the flashlight...was a great idea with the f.o. and all...the guy just looks funny and in the end you dont want to have to put all that work into it then have people tell you it looks funny then have to change it....LOL. but the details and the guy seems to being coming along well. see ya in a few weeks buddy!! Thumbs Up [tup] good work though.

Hmm... I think it looks a little strange now, but I think if you had him set up with the charge on the door and the flashlight throwing light the way it would (I think this might be a better example of a grain of wheat bulb/rice bulb as opposed to the FO as far as throwing light correctly- unless it was like a laser pointer)- then it might look pretty cool- also understandable why he'd have the NVGs up-

I think the figure looked strange without the helmet and the hands, I laughed a little at first, but it's not like I didn't know it was a flashlight and with the helmet on it looked a lot better- the hands and the charge and everything might help- but I agree with camo- I guess if you're reworking things, now would be the time.

I guess if your working with your hands on a charge the narror field of view and the lack of depth would be a problem so I guess he'd flip the NVGs up either way? You know more than me!! haha

Most guys will tell you that even if there's a little bit of moon light, they'd rather use their natural nightvision. NVGs help, but even as much as they help, they can be just that much of a hinderance. And yes, you're correct about the poor depth preception when using those things. Door charges are pretty safe to use and set up, but trying to look through NVGs to do something that's only 2' from your face ... well, good luck with that.

Remember too that this guys back is what the viewer is going to see most of. The face will be turned away facing the doorway, so the flashlight wouldn't be THAT noticeable. The biggest reason that I pulled the idea was that it just wasn't throwing the amount of light that I wanted against the door.

Again, this is a problem related to the LENGTH of the FO I'm running. When I get back, I'm going to have to put some SERIOUS thought into possibly placing the LEDs in the figures' torsos. That's going to mean some major pre-planning ...

But, like I said. Hopefully, while I'm gone, I'll be able to wrap my head around this one a little better.

Hmm... well if the light issue is really all you're concerned about- I hope you seriously concider just the little grain of wheat bulb instead of the FO then I think that might give you a much more "flashlight" effect- instead of the FO you're running through- switch it over to a few wires and mount the bulb right in the flashlight? I guess if it's still set up like this- you could try it before you undo it all, might save some time? haha or make things harder I don't know whatever you think will work- I trust your judgement
