Well, I've got an Eagle in my collection! As I said, I was going for a well-used ship, one that would have seen its share of risky forays onto harsh, alien landscapes, where screaming winds whipped up the dust and beat up the finish. Here it is, all finished up!
A few words about the weathering processes. I started out by using that sponge to add a varying mix of white, gray, and tan. I dabbled a barely-noticeable random pattern all over the model, and then used some cut-outs from index cards to add some geometric designs in gray.
The seams were all pin-washed with black/gray, and then a soft brush was used to add some light chips and drybrushing. Here's some pics!
Here you can see some of the sticker decals--they are rather thick, but can look ok with some flat coat. You can also see the weathering on the rescue pod...
The underside:
The little colored lines on top of the rail frame are my own interpretation of what seems to be a completely inconsistent pattern of color--nearly every reference photo I had of different Eagles seemed to have something different. I wanted an eye-catching, colorful look, so I went all out. THe stripes are a combo of painting and decals cut from old kits.
The rear...the engines were painted in Tamiya Flat Aluminum, and the Dark Copper was airbrushed over the ends, and then Black over that.The lines were painted on fr the most part. The orangey rectangles are from the stickers sheet.
Everything may not be 100% accurate, but I read on a site some words from an actual technician who helped build and maintain the real Eagle models, and he said that the set Eagles were always being refurbished, taken apart and put back together, and that sometimes the lahding pods would wind up swapped, and different parts would be different from time to time, so I figured that in all honesty, the markingsI used may be a liittle "colorful", but I think it looks eye-catching! ??? ![Blush [:I]](/emoticons/icon_smile_blush.gif)
