Thanks again, Cosmic.  I'll switch the touched-up badges soon.

Sorry Kugai! Been a bit under the weather, as well as busy w/ holiday stuff. Here's what I came up with:

I changed the color of the letters to add visual interest. Reduced some letter sizes to obscure the ship less. I tried to move some of the the text up as per p38jl's suggestion, but I couldn't get it to look right.

I too like the idea of choice, allowing each participant to pick the one he prefers. I want to point out that folks can customise the size of the badge to their liking - these are just the original and a sample.

Time to build!

Okay, guys, the badges have been added to the GB thread.  I liked the suggestion you mentioned of being able to use both if participants finished 2 kits, so I went ahead and added that rule.

Everything's ready for signing up and naming your projects!Big Smile

Now, hopefully we'll bring in a few more recruits!

I like the idea of using both. That way if you build two you can have both. 2 cents

Ditto, what SLW 45 said sounds good to me.  I like them

 just the way they are.Yes

Color etc. of the script look good to me.  The only suggestion I'd have for a change would be to make the "Yamato" script a little smaller so that it covers less of the ship if we end up going with #2.

Of course, we could use both and have an option for which badge each participant uses.  The P-38 GB would be a precedent since they have 2 badge options, though the only difference there is the color of the script.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. To be fair, the images are courtesy of Kugai's excellent judgement - kudos on that front should go to him.

Rather, I was wondering about the font, letter size, and placement. In the first image, I used an orange for the letters that approximated the overall color of the image, but does that look right? Maybe a white or yellow instead? Should the header words be larger, w/ the date letters smaller?

In the second image I used a light grey for the letters - they appear to pick up some of the blue in the image. Again, do you think the letters are the right size? Is the font okay, or should I use letters that are more dynamic?

Any thoughts appreciated.

I also like both.  The first has a good, serious "feel" to it while the other stands out well and has the classic "getting ready to fire the BFG" thing going for it.

Okay, took care of my son's Birthday on Wednesday and Thanksgiving at the in-laws' ( hope everyone else's holiday went well ) and had some time to settle in once we got back.

Finally set up the Yamato GB startup.  Got the rules and a space for the "GB gallery" put together.  It's my first time starting a GB so please excuse any stumbling that may occur in getting things started.

I just spit tea all over my monitor.  Thanks, Cosmic.
LOL! Sorry, just calls ‘em as I sees ‘em. I mean, the Yamato really is the most phallic looking thing in Sci-fi, don’t you think?

 Kugai:

Ok, the votes are in, and with 4 "overlap" votes for the live-action ( #6 ) and the nearest runners-up getting 2 each, I'd say #6 is the winner.  I'll save 3, 4, and 5 in case there's a second GB with the theme someday.

As for script, I figure simple works best: "Space Battleship Yamato GB  12/10-12/11."

I’m on it.

By the way, I'm kinda surprised the classic comic cop with the last name Tracy can't have his name shown on the site but "Phallus" passes the auto-censor?

Eh, makes sense to me. It’s a clinical, intellectual word, while Tracy’s first is often a vulgar colloquialism. Plus, calling someone a phallus just doesn’t seem insulting, except maybe to the accuser…

Surprise Cosmic, you crack me up. LOLLLLLLLLLLLL

It's ok, no harm done. :)

If you name the GB, "Gigantic Space Phallus GB" I'll be sure to sign up, and I promise to actually finish my build!

btw, I just return from a trip to Japan last week.  I did manage to see a trailer for the new movie.  It looked very nice!

Can't believe I'm actually mentioning this, but there are a few others that I'd say could take that honor.

1) The Victory and Excalubur from B5's "Call to Arms" movie and short-lived "Crusade" spinoff series.  ( special thanks to the folks who made "Babylon Park" for making it obvious )

2) The "Hawk" ship from Space 1999.

3)  The newer version of the Galactica.

Anyway, back on-topic before we get an entire series of posts censored....

Looking forward to seeing the badge.  I'll get the startup outlined and ready to put on the GB section by Sunday ( going to be busy guiding my son through his X-3 Stiletto weekend build including his first try at using a lot of tools and basics instead of me doing them for him ).  Whenever the badge is done just let me know how to add it on later and we'll be good to go!

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.

Could have been worse... It could have been milk..  That stuff will stick in anywhere and it's very hard to get off without some kind of spray cleaner.

Those are all excellent images, Kugai. Good job. The first is a little rough, but shrinking it might help w/ that.

The third has that nice vertical space on ther side, where we can put the logo, as does the sixth.

The fourth is cool because it has all the types of models one might build, but when shrunk down it might just look like a cluttered mess.

Fifth is nice and clean. No confusion about the subject.

I like 3, 5 and 6.

Suggestions for Text?

"Battleship Yamato GB - date" ?

"The official FSM Yamato Group Build - date" ?

"Gigantic Space Phallus GB - date" ?

After messing with another photo site I had to get used to photobucket all over again ( also had some annoying overtime at work ).

Here they are.

First, there's the classic-style, directly from the anime from what I can tell.

Then the painting-style ones:

yamato_classic.png

yamato_classic.png

yamato_classic.png

Here's one from the new animated movie.

yamato_classic.png

And, just to round things out, the live-action ship in the classic "We're Off to Outer Space" angle.  I know the general opinion seemed to prefer the animated over the live-action, but I thought the resemblance to the often-used classic shot made it worth mentioning just in case.

yamato_classic.png

So, which one(s) do you like best?

Kugai

OK, found 4 to choose from.  I just need to know 2 things, Cosmic.

1) Is it better on your end of the process for me to send smaller pics that will be closer to the expected badge size, or a big pic?

2) Do you want me to post the options here or by some other means?

It's easier for me to correct and manipulate the images if they are full size, and then I can reduce them o various sizes. Big is best.

You could post the options here, and then we could all have a  say. We pick the best image, then pick a font and some wording, and then I can hang the final results where everybody can copy it. Sound good?
