OK, found 4 to choose from.  I just need to know 2 things, Cosmic.

1) Is it better on your end of the process for me to send smaller pics that will be closer to the expected badge size, or a big pic?

2) Do you want me to post the options here or by some other means?

No problems, and no hurry. I'm good w/ either the live action or animated version. The animated version is more "classic", but I think the live action one maybe be more sexy. Either way, I trust your judgement on it.

My bad on the badge.  Was splitting time between being busy with non-hobby goings-on and participating in the Weekend Madness III.

I'll see what I can do about getting thw pics I have in mind to Cosmic within the next 24 to 48 hours, then we can get things on the GB section before Turkey Day.

Just something real quick for while I'm looking for pics: does anyone have any preferences between the from the animated or live action for a badge?

Hey CJ, any progress on the Yamato or the badge yet?

Nope, sorry. With talk of a Group Build, I packed them back into the closet. As to the badge, I was waiting for Kugai (or anyone else) to come up w/ some potential images. I think we were talking about starting in December, so no rush - we basically choose an image, a font and some wording and we're up and running.

No problem. I realise that the market for such aftermarket sets might be very limited. I hope you make a ton of money either way. And w/ the movie coming out, who knows? Big Smile

Hey brother, these models are sweet, but a bit out of my price range. It there any chance you might be making accurizing or update kits for currently existing Yamato kits? I've got the 1/700 Andromeda and the Yamato, and they both could benefit from some aftermarket bits, like turrets, thrusters, and various surface details.

Just a thought.

Hello Cosmic J,

Probably not.  Our business model is really focused toward complete kits rather than aftermarket part sets.  We've tried to market sets similar to this in the ship modeling community before, but customers never looked to us for aftermarket sets.  However, once these sets were shifted to a fellow company that focused on aftermarket upgrades, the sets sold fine.  It may be different within the sci-fi community for these sorts of things, so we'll start looking at the market to see if there's the possibility for this.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd just like for everyone to know that our company has designed and released new 1/350 scale kits that can be found here:

http://arveymodelproducts.com/AMP/AMP_listing.html

Also, the 1/350 scale Borodino kit is scheduled for November release, and we will be adding a 1/72 scale medical frigate hopefully in January.

I have two of the trailers for the new feature length film.  It is supposed to be coming out in December from the info I have managed to find on it.  I think that's in Japan though.  As for a US release, no idea.  I am dying to see it as well since I used to be a die hard Space Cruiser Yamato fan.  From what I have garnered from various sources, it is based on the first TV season with the Gamelons and Iskandar.  They mixed CGI, Miniatures and live action.  It looks incredible from thew trailers.  Just Google "Space Battleship Yamato" and select the videos link and I am sure you find several of the trailers.

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.

Sounds like an idea, CJ.  Thanks for the offer.  I'll get the pics together and we'll take it from there so that I can experiment for future GBs with the info you gave me but we'll know something will be ready for this one's start date.

Now I just gotta hope I don't get my computer infected again.  Last 2 times I used PB I ended up having the system act up and had to run the security routines.  No problems after I switched to another photo site, but it's been a few weeks so maybe I should stop avoiding them and see if they took care of whatever was causing the problem.

Hmm. I haven't had any problems with them... yet. They do seem like a good target for viruses and such, now that you mention it. I'll keep an eye out - thanks for the heads up.

Bummer Kugai, I have never had this too happen, but that does not mean it doesn't.  Seems like every time I do something on Face Book, I experience what you are talking about?  Hope you have better luck from now on with PB.

 Kugai:

You guys are serious?

Okay, rather than take up too much more space on the GB subject here, I'll put up a "recruiting" post in the SF section in about a month, and have the start date set for December ( to coincide with the movie release in Japan ).  This will also give me some time to finish the 2 Patlabor kits I was working on from the old Previously-Started Priority Stash ( pulled out while I was stalled on the Macross GB and the BattleMaster to keep up momentum ) as well as the Weekend Madness done before adding another project or 2.

Just one question: any links on putting together a GB badge?  I figure it would be a good thing to have ready for the recruiting post.

Sweet!

For GB badges, I look around online to find an image that I think showcases the GB subject, save it to the computer and then Photobucket. After that, PB has a Decorate function, which let's you add words and designs to the picture. When I get a badge I like, I resize it to just above avatar size and Save a Copy.

If you would really like some help, I can do a bunch of it if need be. How about you decide on an image and wording, and I can do the grunt work?

Kugai, take him up on it, you will be glad you did, I know I was when I needed help, and boy did CJ come thru right on time.

Kugai, sounds like you have it under control, all your ideas look sound and doable.  I wish I could help w/the GB badge, but I am not too good @ that, maybe someone else can jump and assist Kugai do this, what you computer savvy fellas out there say, give a hand.

I wish I did have the 1/350 scale Battleship Yamato, let one get by me on eBay f/$400.00 plus ship and I have regretted it ever since, the next cheapest w/ship for across the big pond was $800.00!!!!!Crying

I agree, 1 year is a good time frame for any GB, allows more participation for new members as they join.

Thanks Kugai for taking this on, starting and keeping a GB going is a task to say the least.

Okay, since the idea seems to be sticking, I'll go ahead and start things in the GB section here in a few days ( if no one has any objections to GM "volunteering" me to do so  Stick out tongue ) with rules, dates, etc.  Maybe we'll end up getting a few more people signing up who don't usually come here to the SF section.

Since there's been some indication of kits having already been started ( and since we don't want to add to the "started" stashes ), I'm OK with leaving out the common "unstarted only" rule.

I'm guessing everyone who's expressed interest already has at least 1 kit from the Yamato series, but just in case anyone needs to order something I was thinking a start date just before or after Thanksgiving would be good.

Unless someone's building the $500+ radio-controlled, lights-and-sound super-kit, I doubt we'd really need a full year for this, but if we gave that time it would allow for some of us to have multiple entries for this GB as well as minimizing the odds of something not getting done by the end date ( especially those of us participating in other GBs ).  It just occurred to me that a year would also give time for new kits from the movies that are coming out in Japan that someone might want to add later.

The last thing I can think of right now that needs to be mentioned is the badge.  I have absolutely no idea how to set one up, but I do have a few ideas for designs.  I'd appreciate any help on this, whether it be pointing out any "how to's" on the subject or someone else more familiar with what's needed putting the badge together.

Any input/suggestions before the actual GB startup?

I’m definitely in. Knowing there will be a GB lets me put my Yamato and Andromeda away for a bit - maybe order some detail parts while I’m at it.  Cool

Gunpla Master

I nominate Cosmic J to do the GB Emblem for this if that's OK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm

Honestly, you should get someone who makes better badges than I do. Mine are like my models – competent, but not terribly eye-catching.

Plus, I’m not as familiar w/ the subject matter as others. I bet lots of guys here could find better screen shots or emblems than I ever could.
