I have been thinking about building something because of Episode VII, so this is just what I had in mind.  I am expecting a new kit that I won on ebay.  It is the AMT Star Destroyer with fiber optics kit:

I really want to the the FineMolds Falcon, but can't find one for the right (affordable) price.

I look forward to building this in the GB if you don't mind me joining in with this kit.

Its always good to have plenty of builds to keep you going. I would like to start my build when the GB kicks off, but I have a few other GB that end earlier next year to do first, but I am hoping to get started in march or April.

I received the Revell X-Wing kit today. It was the last one a local shop had, so I had to pick it up. It's a 1/30(ish) scale and the box says "easy kit"... heh.

This thing will be anything but easy.

I'm going to take a good long look at it and figure out what I want to do with it in terms of build and detail. But off the top of my bald head:

lights everywhere... engines, cockpit, R2... I'm going to go nuts with this one... several circuit boards will be made and I'm thinking a proximity sensor to turn it on and off.

removal of any details that are wrong

addition of more accurate details

wing armature (possibly motorized)

completely repaint

maybe a pilot, maybe not... one's included, but dunno

I know this GB doesn't kick off until 2015, so I'll just take a good look at it to get the ideas flowing and put it in the back of the stash closet until it's time. Good thing is that until the GB starts, I have a pretty full plate of projects that will keep me occupied and off the X-Wing.

Always nice to have plenty to keep you busy, and of course there is that Stuka to finish.

AWESOME! By then I'll have completed building my CNC router (currently awaiting parts to arrive) and CNC laser (sometime next month or maybe december). I could have a lot of fun with this...

Sounds like you have a plan Teddz. The GB will begin on Jan 1st, so plenty of time to get what you need and plan it out.

I was doing a bit of research over at the RPF and starship modeler for the X-wing modifications... totally doable and I can go nuts with some 0603 micro LED's and fiber optics... maybe a proximity sensor to turn it on and off... yeeeeaaaaaa... when is this thing starting? I'm itching to order it and get started.

WOW Teddz, I don't mind spending a bit of money on a good kit, but that is something else. But what ever you decide, you will be more than welcome.

Rob, yes, they are that. But defiantly worth it. I have a few in the stash, but am still plucking up the courage to get the 72nd falcon. Now that is pricey. And from the looks of things, this GB will defiantly be a go. Look for the build thread end of Nov, early Dec, depends how long my patience can hold out.

The star destroyer isn't only one really good challenge, but it's the most expensive of the two. Just in kits for the greeblies, it's several thousand (I'm already 1200 euros into kits and need a lot more), and this doesn't account for the cost of the Fiber Optics, Electronics, servos, building materials and all other consumables. Not to mention it would probably take almost all time allocated for the GB to complete if funds weren't an issue... However, it would be insane... I'll probably start the build when the GB kicks off, but I'm pretty sure I'll be entering this X-wing with modifications into the GB as a main subject:

Be great to have you on board guys. Bob, your not wrong about those Fine Molds kits, they are very nice.

Teddz, some nice ideas there, the first one sounds like it would be great challenge.

I'm in for this... I have 2 potentials...

1. I've been working on the designs/blueprints of a studio scale (roughly 4') Victory II class star destroyer. I'm basing most of the designs and details from the 4' SD model used in the films, but since some of the kits the greeblies came from are really rare and expensive, I'll be taking some liberties with newer kits.

2. Build an X-wing from one of the available kits and upgrade some details to make it more authentic.

Yup...I'm down. I haven't done a SW model in too many years. I need a diversion from aircraft. Dunno what it'll be (Finemolds puts out some epic stuff), but, I'm definitely in Bish!! Can't wait to see that badge, too!!

Thanks guys. Between this and the other feeler, looks like enough interest already.

Bruce, I hope you decide to do the Destroyer. I did one of those years ago but never finished it. I think its the last of my old built/part built star wars kits that I need to replace.

Star Wars GB feeler.

First, off, yes, I know there's a SCI Fi GB on going. But I decided to try and get this GB going a year ago, and so decided to stick with it even after wayne got strong armed into the other GB.

So, in the lead up to coming release of Episode VII in Dec 2015, would there be any interest in a Star Wars GB. The last one we had was in 2009, so we are well over due one any way. The GB would include builds from al of the movies, the expanded universe and Star Wars inspired what if builds (yes, I know, its Sci Fi, they are all what if, but I am sure you know what I mean Wink)

If there is enough interest, the build would start on Jan 1st 2015 with an end date pencilled in for Dec 18th, the current release date of Ep VII. Cross over would be allowed.

So let me know what you think, and if its a go, the build thread will be put up in early Dec.
