Nothing other than the Excelsior/Ent. B from ERTL, now OOP. They're not too hard to fiind, though. Did more puttying today, hopefully priming over weekend. Have a good Christmas eve.

That's the site! I remember the Gorn ship. Thanks a million Steve.Big Smile [:D] Do you know of anyone that puts out 1/1000 kits other than PL?

Woody, Cory's site does have them listed at www.mcdanielmodels.com. He's had a few problems though with not shipping things in a timely fashion. You could also try www.pntmodels.com for some conversion kits and decals. Also look here: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/cgi-bin/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12744&sid=a486690ad6bc7eb03e5811ad69832766
I should stop spending your money for you!Big Smile [:D]

That might be McDaniel models.Cory had some SFB themed stuff there, plus more he was promising. I'll see if I can find the link. In the meantime, here's the lnk to the SFB carrier at Starship Schematics: http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/heavycarrier_napoleon.jpg

Steven, I want to start kitbashing the PL kit but I hadn't considered looking to SFB for ideas. I want to stick to 1/1000 scale but I have been buying up any ST kits I can find. My current ambition is to do the Botany Bay in 1/1000 scale. The next thing I'd like to try is the Kobyasho Maru. There was a website that sold vac kits of SFB kits. Have you ever run across that site?

Alas, the Lyran cruiser in the pic was traded away to a friend years ago. Later I had started a smaller scale Hydran Ranger, but lost what I had been working on.
The SFB minis sure were fun weren't they? You could collect fleets of them with minimal space. Have you considered any SFB themed conversions of the PL Enterprise?

Steven, I've built a few of the SFB minis (quite a few, LOL) and was wondering if that was what you were talking about. I've seen your Lyran cruiser, very nice indeed! Do you have plans for the Lyran cruiser? Cheers, Woody (Life long SFB fan)

Woody, the carrier is coming along slowly of late due to family, work, etc. I just have some puttying to finish up and then I can put the first coat of primer on. At that point I will take some more detailed pics of her.
The scale of the SFB mini eludes me (anyone?). I've had it since it came out in the 80's, along with many other SFB and FASA minis. Many of these designs I'd love to scratchbuild, such as Kzinti, Hydran, etc. My Lyran cruiser(3 ft' long) is on Ron's site.
Thanks for the interest, Woody. Stay tuned Smile [:)]

Steven how's the carrier coming along? I'm very much looking forward to the next picture(s). The mini you mentioned, what scale and where did you get it?

All are interesting variations. This particular design has been in my head, and on paper for years. I finally decided to build it in 2500th scale for a smaller display size, and the shape of the Naboo worked out great. 4 nacellse were a possiblity, but the Ravenstar nacelles were big enough for just 2. I did see the page you linked before I built, but wasn't impressed with most of them. I do like the old Star Fleet Battles carrier, and had the mini out during construction as sort of a reference. Thanks again for the interest and the suggestions. I'll post some more pics in a while.

Since you are crossing STNG with SW, why not give it "X wing" Nacelles. In other words, you would have 4 nacelles sprouting off in 4 directions.

I found a site that gives some pictures of what you are doing perhaps one of them can give you more ideas:
http://www.shipschematics.net/cgi-bin/startrek/federation.cgi?Carrier

I think the Akira class starship was built like a carrier. It had more than your average number of shuttle bays.

Another idea, instead of attaching the two as you have, what about building it like a huge Oberth class ship, where the cargo portion is slung under the saucer

Thanks. I have some more puttying to do at the tail end, then start adding detailing and the impulse engines. Its rather slow going as I have to work between the family and work, and am forced to have a "mobile" work station at the kitchen table. After its primered come the hard part for me........painting. I have a set of Dave Tomita's "D" decals, but obviously it won't cover all of this behmoth.

Very, very nice. How much more work before the kit is primered?

Thanks Woody. The nacelles were the perfect size. Kudos to Chris Lynch for offering to make me two new ones, gratis!

Cool! It's really starting to come together. You were right the two warp nacelles do look right. Wink [;)]

Just another update pic: http://rongeorge.com/albums/upload/carrierprogress2.sized.jpg

I used a plastic bender to make the nacelle struts. It took some time to make the port side strut exactly the same as the starboard side. I incorporated tabs on the top of these to mount the engines to. The warp engines are from Ravenstar Studios Odin class cruiser. I drilled/cut out slots in the underside of them to accept the tabs. They're temped on for the pic, and untill more is done. Sorry for the quality of the picture.

Thanks Poly. I did some more puttying today and made some phaser strips. I can't seem to figure out where to place photon launchers/firing arcs. Any suggestions? Keep in mind the saucer seperates.

That is one big vessel! I would really like to see how that model would translate to the screen in either an episode or feature movie. It could almost be a "floating" drydock for smaller classes of Star Trek starships, i.e. Reliant, Enterprise (NX-01), etc. Great job so far!

Well I just measured her, she's 14" long. If my scale converter program is working right, in 1/2500th scale, she's 889 meters long!!! Can somebody verify that?

I guess I envision several types of craft stored in her belly, from shuttles to fighters to larger, multi-role types. Yes, it turns out to be large(haven't computed the scale length yet) and that's why I thought slightly larger warp engines were in order. I decided a while back to name it the Valley Forge, for one of my favorite sci-fi ships.

You could have two or three versions or it could be a multi role vessel. You could evacuate entire colonies with a ship that big. It could be used for disaster relief with hospital shuttles and and engeneering teams. A big flying Red Cross. Then you could have a full military version. One could also be used as a colony ship to transport colonists and supplies...The possibilities are endless![:0]

MY GOD THAT'S A BIG SHIP![:0]
I mean taking into account it's scale and all. How many shuttles do you guys estimate it carries. The "D" was a pretty big ship herself.

Just went to the revised site. Let's try this:

http://rongeorge.com/albums/scifi/carrierprogress.jpg

On a side note ron used my Viper pic as the "front page" for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy album. Cool!

The site is having problems, Ron said he'd have it fixed in a few days. Woody, Thomas Models is supposed to have conversion kits for the Polar Lights Enterprise so you can build the Destroyer, Tug, etc.

I'm sure you'll figure it out. Keep the pictures coming. I just took an interest in Star Trek kits but I'm going with 1/1000 scale. I'm getting inspired by all you guys that bash these trek kits!

I considered that, but thought two engines that were slightly larger would look better. A suggestion was made to me yesterday to use Runabout engines, but I have none to even try out. I'v e also ordered an Odin class TNG cruiser from Ravenstar Studios maybe those will work. I consider elongating the existing ones, but I'm just too lazy.Big Smile [:D]

How about three engines like a dreadnought?
