Ok I decided to be a little different then when first started. The Zui will be depicted as of early 1944. Her Hull was painted Grey and Green with a camouflaged Fightdeck. I had to mount a Bow A/A Plarform so I scratched one from Parts off Trumpys Kirov Class Cruiser. The following Pics show all the P/E Railings attached to the Hull and Decks. I am still waiting on some A/M degaussing Cables to fit to the Hull. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

Thank you for the comments Steve. Much appreciated. And the P/E continues. More of the Deck Side Galleries have been added along with some more P/E. The Lighter gives you an idea of the Kit's size. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

Mark,

Beautiful work sir, I'm very much impressed.  I am amazed that you can work in such a small scale and be able to work with photo etch parts; my hat is off to you.  Please keep the photos coming.

OK, when in GB or the Commonwealth, a porthole can be called a scuttle.  Toast

A scupper is indeed an outlet for for water runoff, but a scuttle is a small covered hatch that allows personnel passage through a deck or sometimes a bulkhead. Portholes and scuttles are not the same thing. I am pretty sure the definition is the same in British (Queen's) English as it is in American English.

You will have to check the source of your info. Scuppers are the Deck Level Runoff Drains and Scuttles is the English way of saying Portholes. RainGuards were added abocv Portholes. I know that they were plated over later in the War but if you looked at the Wording on the Box Art it was correct for the period time of Pearl Harbour.....Cheers Mark

Those scuttles you drilled out were the portholes so if you are doing a late fit Zuikaku those would have been covered over with armored covers and I do believe there are actually supposed to be portholes on the foreward bulkhead that you were working on which can be added with careful use of a pin vice.

BTW Scuttles are actually what is refered to as rain gutters on ships where you have holes in the deck that carry water from the deck to the exterior of the ship to prevent water build up on deck.

All the Hull Scuttles (164) have been drilled out as well as the Mesh Curtains. The Stern Lower Boat Deck has now been added along with the small Fo'csle. As you can see the fit at the Bow is woeful. Some Putty and Plastic Rod to come to rescue this. More to come soon.....Cheers Mark
