I just found out that White Ensign does the pressure hull, so that a bonus. I need to get some bits for the S-100 I got the other week. I also found out they do the Nautilus decks, so added bonus. Saves me getting any more direct. It should work put a bit cheaper.
I wasn't sure how much you would see in there once its closed up. I had thought about painting the inside black, thinking this might work. But having the pressure hull will be a lot better.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

You are welcome bud. I know exactly what you mean about opening up the flood holes. if you don't put anything in there it just looks hollow, even in 1/144. Like I said, I used a cardboard tube, sprayed it flat black and it look the part, and much cheaper too.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
O, thanks PJ. I have heard others talk about a pressure hull, but the one I read about was not rated highly. That was the one thing I was concerned about when it came to opening up the vent holes. I know it wasn't this one as I read that a couple of years ago, and this seems pretty new. Nice price as well. I think I know have the final piece.
Cheers again.
Edit: I think it was the Yankee Modelworks one I had read about before.
Bish......... I got mine from Freetime, here's the link: www.freetimehobbies.com
thomcmdchief.........Thanks for the info. Will be interesting to see what they come out with. The pressure hull can be done from a cardboard tube as I did on my 1/144 Type VII/C.
Good news from nautilus, I thought WEM might do something as well. I have their and the Eduard for the VIIc. I have not heard of Free Time, do they have a website.
CMK is putting together an interior set along the lines of the product it produced for the IIV C, and Brandon at Free Time says there is a deck and pressure hull on the way from them. He also mentioned PE from Eduard and WEM. I Emailed Nautilus, and as soon as they get a hands on kit to measure, they'll be putting out a deck, and also a VIIC/40 resin conversion kit. I would guess Griffon might resurrect its basic weapons set from the VIIC for the 2 CM and 3.7 guns and tower upgrades. I would guess by springtime we should be showered with possibilities.
Thanks buddy!
Will do, I will keep you posted on anything I find about Am for the kit.
Cool! Please let me know about the deck and decals, just thinking.
I know what you mean, but sometimes, I just can't help myself
I plan on sending an E-Mail to Nautilus to ask if they are doing a wooden deck for the Type IX. And also to AMP. They do a couple of decals sets for the Type VII and might be worth asking if they are planning anything for the new one.
And that 219 is another on my shopping list. I have spent most of the year trying to decide if I should go for Revell or ZM and I have decided on the former. I think I will be adding at least one of those in the next couple of weeks.
Ok Bish Thanks. It may not be necessary to add pe to this boat anyway but you never know. I recently picked up the 1/32 Revell of Germany He219 and the only pe I plan to add are the belts. The cockpit details are just gorgeous and screaming for some paint.
I have only found it on Hannants. In the past I have noted that coming Eduard items are listed on here but they don't seem to pout them on their site. I have never been able to find their up coming MiG 15 kits on their site for example.
Hannants doesn't give any details, just the set number, 53106, 107 and 108. 106 doesn't have a price yet, 107 £16 and 108 £21. I am guessing they are not yet ready, and going of past eduard releases, this may well be delayed.

Sounds like good news PJ, I am defiantly going to add this in the new year. Eduard have 3 sets due for release in Feb, they only did one set for the Type VII.
Defiantly worth looking into more marking options.
Finally came in yesterday evening. The box looks to be the same size as the Type VII/C but the boat's hull is segmented in two pieces for a whopping 42 1/2" long! The hull molded detail is just fabulous. The railings even look good, not too thick. The AAA 37 and 20 MMs look great with sharp molded detail and scale looking barrels. I really don't see the need to add pe details since Revell hit a home run with this one IMHO. My only beef is the decals are for the 505 and no other choices. I have to research to see if I can find info on a more catchy Type IX camo. I'm sure after market decals and pe will come out soon.
The listed delivery date was supposed to have been yesterday the 17th of Dec. but no package came. I contacted Freetime Hobbies this morning and they were backlogged with orders of the Type IX so it may be another week or so before I get it.
Thanks PJ. I will drop you a PM tomorrow, you have given me a lot to think about when it comes to badges.
Yes a regular router will work fine. I suggest carbide tipped bits with roller bearings for super smooth and even cuts. The difference with the trim router is that they are smaller and easier to handle but both will work equally well.
I had never heard of a trim router. But would a normal router still do the job. I have one in mind, its only £40 and the trim routers I found on the web seem to be all a lot more than that.
jtilley For modeling purposes you'll probably find that a small "trim router" will do everything you want - for a good bit less money than a full-sized one.
Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Shoot me a pm if you want to explore the badge and base thing. I have a few ideas for using MDF and regular wood. Don't want to cloud up the original theme with woodworking techniques.
That's what I was thinking of doing, I plan on picking up a router soon just for model bases. Going to ty it out on the base I will be doing for my 88. I had a different idea for a badge, but I think I will look into this idea of yours, got a couple of weeks off work to play around with it.
No sweat buddy. It's really easy making your own bases out of left over lumber. I just cut it to the dimensions I need, run the old router for a fancy looking edge then sand, stain and polish a little. The one that I used for the U Boat I bought cause it was on sale for $2. I couldn't pass that up.
I have been thinking about doing my own bases for when I get round to mine, I like the idea of the badge, I might have to pinch that one.
Thanks Bish. I bought the base at a craft store then stained and polished it. The fish I penciled on a piece of thin plastic, trimmed it to shape and painted it as the emblem of U96. I sold the build article to FSM a while back but it hasn't been published yet.
PJ, now that is beautiful, and I love the base.

Just after I got my Type VII, someone posted a pic of a completed GATO next to a completed Type VII. I couldn't believe how big the GATO is. If I didn't have the VII next to me, I would have thought that was pretty small. And one of these days, I just might get one.
Stick.......Thanks bud
Hokey........Glad you like my boat. I'll try to take a couple of more pictures when I can. Don't understand the last part of your post.
thomcmdchief.......Ouch Dude! I ordered mine from Freetime Hobbies in Georgia and it's $87.90 including shipping.
