'Q' ship reissue

Would you care to comment on these two diagrams?

I was just going to post some similar diagrams! Our masts seem to come out of the deck without the "mast table" shown here. The heavy lift is stepped on a pedestal. Other than that this is what we are looking at. Note that the running gear/wires go to the winches, while the topping lift wires are secured to a cleat or some kind of chain in some cases.

Here is the foredeck of what seems to be a smaller ship but generally the same arrangement. We won't have the booms stepped on that crosstree looking thing. Ours would be smaller:

I've had a lot of free time in the last week and have pushed ahead with the SS Evelyn. The smaller boats and the upper masts are from the kit, everything else except the hull is scratch built.

I ordered a set of 1/200 ships ladders from Toms. I need something like twelve and there weren't that many of the same size in my goodies, so it seemed worth the $ 15.00.

The thing sort of reminds me of the old freighter that had run aground off of Cape Nay N.J.  I wasn't far off the beach and eventually cracked.  There used to be a large sign pasted or painted on its starboard side near the bow.  People were warned to stay off her as it was so dangerous.  At first I thought it was left over from WWII but later I heard it was built before that.

Looking good! Mine is sidelined while I work on the Liberty, but we are very close in appearance. I still may waterline mine as the hull is a little bumpy.

I missed something along the way. The kit is about 1/390 but now length to about 1/350 or so? Correct? So why 1/200 railings? Same kit-bashed Lindberg or did you scratch build another?

The original kit is 1/390, but when we lengthened the hull to the match the beam, the new scale is 1/295...or so. I'm going to use 1/350 PE, but I think GM likes to go a size larger.

I just wanted to bump this thread because it is very interesting and hopefully more updates are posted.

I've been working on it. For some reason, I am in one of those mind sets that make me redo a lot of stuff. Hope to have pictures soon.

GREAT Guys, good to hear the projects are still alive  (sleeping or not) 

I've been doing the same thing with the paint a little, GM.

I put a waterline on it, didn't like the color, so sanded, then decided the black was too black, and sanded again. Anyway, here's a picture. It shows that this is quite a nice looking hull when lengthened to the proper dimendions:

Yep the pilot house is missing a window...

Very nice! I have to find another Deck Red paint. My bottle of Floquil Red Oxide is gone.

This stuff is "Ace" house brand red oxide. The antifouling is genuine "Rustoleum" Red Oxide.

I built that old Lindberg kit back in the 1960s.

Definitely a night and day change in it's appearance!

That old kit really looks good now.

I am generally loath to revive long-dormant threads, but I stumbled across this very interesting one last night---since I'm in the midst of building a far-less-ambitious version of the same kit.

Can any of the original participants offer updates on their projects? It was going great guns, then just seemed to die off all at once. Love the spirit and the work...curious to see how they might have come out.

I had to put my model on hold for awhile due to some personal/home issues, and kind of never got back to finishing it up.  Maybe now might be a good time to try and finish it up.

i moved and things got busted up. 

I should be back at the bench by June.

I appreciate the replies. Better to know projects are 'back burner' than abandoned, especially after all that impressive work!
