Dear friends,

I'm very glad and proud to be a member of your comunity.

Recently" found" this forum with many interesting buildigs reports, thoroughly developed, rich in details and relevant historical information... in short, I like these ways how most of you are building your models, just great to be here ! Big Smile

I would like to introduce my model/to share with you my attempts to assemble this kit , Spanish galleon, by LEE in stated scale of 1:100 , ... I began this project longvtime ago...2009 approx, since that time it moves very slowly...mostly due to my working schedule...Im able to spend not more than a few months per year for the model...and part of this time need to be shared with others duties...so,till today,I've reached , the phase of grot mast assembling... guess 3 years more, and I could selebrate completion of this project...if will be able to do that Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

there are some recent fotoes, jobs which were done during my vacation this year...

               Good day,

I looked at all the pictures and then had to take a couple of Advil.  I can't wrap my head around the amount of complicated work your doing. Amazing

Dear Jim, John, Eric, Knox ,

Thank you very much for your pozitive and....I must say - very "supportive"  comments!

It work good...very good for me , pushing to continue this experiments ....and stimulates to complete it...in near future ! :))) .... hope in two years it will be done! .... must be !.... otherwise I will never open the box with another kit EatsBig SmileBig SmileBig Smile

when I purchased this kit long time ago...smth. in 2003...and began to assemble it approx in 2009, I absolutely didn't realise how long will it take and how much information abt galleons of Spanish Armada era( that time of famous fight between Spanish and English fleet in 1588)  I will obtain later on...in the begining , I just liked the picture on the box cover and scale ...big enough for convinien work with model ...thats all,for that time...

and only much later, when the hull was clued and almost complitely painted but I had steady internet connection all in all, huge Wave and waves a little bit less in size ,of information of galleons, their constraction, rigging, fighting equipment and so on...covered me over my head...

and I 've found that this plastic kit,as represantation of galleon ,never mind ,spanish or english or what else nation ,is absolutely wrong in hull constraction and rigging arrangements...but I can't stop and give up my project, just began to add some details ,which I known from various sources, could be present on galleon of that time, and did some minor ...how it called..scratch build?

some of them were found incorect later on as well,as soon as more reliable info came...so at the сеrtain moment ,this process seems to be endless ...and I decided to stop with corrections, but to concentrate on riggging only... at least, there is Anderson book abt 16-17 rigging was found, which entire covered all my questions abt galleon rigging at the end of 16th century...additional information I found in very detailed pictures of Dutch artists of that period...foundvthem very helpfull ,in lack of info of spanish shipbuilding metods of that period represented in english language...at least I didn' find such, in free ecces for download in internet...in the same quality as A.B.Hoving books of Dutch ship buildings of period , for example...which are also I could consider as very or even Extra ! helpfull in studing galleon period, especialy if take in consideration that Dutch in that period occupated world leading pozition in shipbuilding, and all other nations just follow them in such respect...in general ,lets say... :) including Spain ,which in turn, in that time as well ,had part of modern Holland , under Spanish crown authority...

here is link to my "galleon arhive + other relevant info" ,info which I collected from internet ...may be it will be usable for those of our colleagues who are busy or has intention to build galleon model...

This is great!

Your knotwork is just superb. It settles the issue, for me, once and for all about overhand knots versus clove hitches.

This may not translate well, but when I look at your ship I literally can smell an old museum model, a mixture of wood, stain, dust and old cord.

Not too sure about that icon on the stern... Do you know I used to write those as a side hobby (devotion)?

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Good day,

GMorrison,

Thanks for Your comments :) this metod of rattling...I found somewhere in internet...don't remember already ,where...the points  for me were:

- need to calculate in scale distanse between ratlines,

to prepair good template,

to find thinest thread ,to stain it in bitum laque,

and while making clove hitches, each need to be fixed with CA

...damn monotonious work...I spent almost week for one mast...only for this rattling... :((( :)))

Regarding sturn picture - You are right.!..on the posted foto it is not correct, those time I didn t know ,what mast be here,so I've found proper size icon, and used it...later I knew that I placed wrongly Ortodox style picture, but need to be Catolic style...later on I 've replaced it for correct style picture...and now I have idea to replace it (3rd time already :)))for carved work, already found appropriate sculpture...

BRGDS!

Kirill

Good day,

Dear friends, this my vacation have time to continue with model...first,I decided to rearange location of leading blocks for fore mast upper sails halliards ... as example I try to use reconstructed Vasa rigging plan and some of 17th centure artists drwngs...in those part, where we can see that they are leading somewhere to Fore mast base...

But I'm still not sure if I did it correctly... at least, those halliards need to be secured somewhere near Fore mast base...may be there small knights need to be installed.???.. finaly I did what I did...previous points for securing running parts of halliards , will be used for fore mast upper sails braces securing

Slowly will continue with Main mast rigging...

Good day,

Dear friends,

continue with various preparation for assembling main mast yards and sails... fabricated smallest blocks, approx 2 mm in length, which will be ness-ry in this stage... for securing robands to the sails I used one of the drwng from Anderson book...actually it is for top gallant sails, but I will use it for all sails (to much simplify installation and save time)... it will be mistake here, but do it in correct way,how main and top sails  must be attached to the yards - too complicate for me...
