Jim, You are just full of super  ideas.  I am wondering where I am going to put these things. Right now I have about 200 fighter planes in 1/72, 1/48 & 1/32, About 200 cars, with about 50 Ferraris, & maybe 30 boats of all types. At least I sold my train layout. That gave me some room for ships. Everything but most of the ships are in cases or glass cabinets.

Happy Fathers Day to you too. The Galleon is surprising me because it does look good. The decks show up about the best on these last pictures. I like these better than wood ones.

       Best,  Gene

I have started on the masts & I have put wood dowels, brass or aluminum rods in the bow sprit & all the masts. It will be a big devil. Thanks for watching.

All Pictures perfect. Cannons well done and outstanding rope coils on the deck! Glad you can get Brass and Aluminum rod in the masts.  It will sure help to keep them straight when you tie your knots.

And Big is right. I was kidding before on another Thread about adding an extra addition to the house for displays, but maybe an enclosed patio with a properly scaled dock for this Galleon?

So, for Halloween, you and Mary dress like a Pirate and his "Wench" and take the kiddies for a tour through your Model Ships.  (and yea, tell them they are Pirate ships... They will love it more.)

Hi PFJN,  Pat, Thank you for the answer but you might as well have given it to me in Chinese. My understanding of Compression Algorithm is  0. But thanks anyway.    Gene

Hi,

I think Lossy is a compression algorithm used in some image formats that can result in a loss of detail.

What is lossy & lossless ? More words for me to not know. Jim, I do very little dry brushing any more for some reason. I used to do it a lot.

Gene,

Don't worry 'bout PNG and JPG.  It would be my great pleasure to do the worrying for you.   (Two different image formats. JPG is Lossy, PNG is lossless)

And Computer language is Foreign. I used to write machine language routines which are a few levels further along than the software in your PC's applications. So, I guess I was good at something once.  Now if only I could turn that ability to dry brushing and gluing without fingerprints on my decks.

Your Revell Spanish Galleon Decks are fantastic. You have the patience of a Saint to keep at those raised plank/no caulking line things till they looked proper.

    Jim.

Jim, what is the difference between PNG & JPG pictures. All computer talk does for me is make my head swim. Computer language is a completely foreign language to me.

Thanks Rob. I've had 3 orders of decals that must have been old & they came apart before I could get them off the paaper. I do use Microscale Decal Film & it works ggreat on old decals. You brush it on & it is smooth as glass & holds the decal together.

At the time I just had some clear & white decal sheets & I painted the clear with some Tamiya Ferrari red lacquer & then used it to make the chevrons. Rob, I thought about how to make them to fit & I made a pattern of each place as they were different in size & also front to back. I drew a centerline from front to back & used a smal 45degree piece of aluminum & a small straight edge & used a divider to mark the width of the chevron on the centerline. Then I just 45'd the chevron & used every other one to get my spaces.. I taped the pattern over the decal & cut the top & bottom & then used a new single edge blade to cut the chevrons.

That way the chevrons follow a straight pattern. Where the pattern is equal front to back I just use them all. Boy that was hard to explain something simple.

And thanks again to Jim,NINO, for getting the pictures on. He is always there.

You say the red shevrons are decals......?  Nice application.  As with your last build, very clean and neat.

Jim, the final deck was very simple, as I said above, I just sprayed Tamiya Deck Tan & let it dry & then put a ccoat of MM Dull & Gloss coat on it. Then I put a wash of raw umber, fairly heavy, & let it dry & then coated it again with the MM lacquer mix. The main thing is, do not touch the umber wash at al till it has been recoated. It mess's it up & can not be fixed. It shows all the grain real nice. It looks much better in person than the pictures & I like the color I got too. I do miss the plank grooves that I pencil.

Gene,

The pictures did work when you 1st posted'em.

Try going back to one of your earlier posts and do an EDIT. Delete all the existing pictures and add in your new photos using the "copy image location" on Google photos.

The failure looks a bit different when using various Web browsers.  I did not see a difference between being logged off or logged on however.

I sent you an Email with some Google info.

Here is a Google Photo disaster as a test.

I had an issue with posting from Google in the past so I went to Flickr, IMGUR and Postimage.org as alternate hosting sites.

One interesting aspect to your picture posting problem is the Google link is for a  .PNG picture rather than the usual .JPG image type.

Thanks to all of you for the help you have given me. I sent these to my wife & daughter & they came thru fine, now ejhammer says he can get them when not signed in. I will go back & put another set on Google photos & then relist them. I would like anyone thinking about this kit to see it  in a close to finished hull.

ej, thanks for letting me know.I have been doing this for years & now something is different. I will try a few now & see.

Let me know if they come thru ok. They are on my computer OK, so that is confusing.

These came through for me, but only on my laptop. On my desktop - no pics, just the little squares with an X in it.

On my laptop I was viewing the site as a guest - not logged in to my FSM account.

On the desktop I'm logged in as a member. Oddly, on the desktop, the site doesn't seem to allow me to log out. I wanted to see what would happen if I tried to access the site as a guest on the desktop too.

Very confusing.

Saw it on Ships. When I clicked on the little squares I got a window that told me to sign in to my Google account. I don't have a Google account.

Thank you guys for the replies & I did screw it up when I put it on. I accidently put it on Tech Assistance & then tried to move it to ship & all I moved was a jumble of letters & numbers. Then i posted a new one on Ships that should be allright. I asked FSM to take the bad post of numbers off Shis & they took the one off Tech. Assistance.

Given a chace I could screw up a one car funeral on a computer.  Rob,on Ships did they come in OK for you? Steve & ejhammer, did you see them on Tech Assistance or Ships?

I still like my smaller Imai Spanish Galleon best, but this one is big & will be a knockout. It might not make the purests happy but it is fun to build. Not one of Revels best kits tho. I don't know where I wrote this on FSM, but a good friend of mine was one of the main guys who discovered the 1715 wreck off Sebastian Inlet in Florida . That has been back in about 1962. He even found a bunch of stuff on the beach. The fireplace in his house had ballast stone from the wreck on its face & a pair of swords too. I have a gold coin from the wreck.

He was a great diver, NASA engineer & model builder.
