Cutting away all the unnecessary bits...lots actually. Hey, what's that 88 for? (:))  Yep, it's Kriegsmarine46 all over again.

The story is going to be fragmented, as I can't do the whole thing here...but I will put in snippets: (those of you who read Vampyre Vampyre will remember Captain Otto and Ernst)

Part One:

April 7th, 1946, Off the coast of Egypt:

Captain Prien glared at the dhows that blocked his way, the dirty sails hung in the morning light like an old lady’s soiled knickers. It was tempting to put a bow shot right through the lot of them, sinking the leaking hulls with only one well placed shell, but with the victory at Tobruk, all the German staff had been told to be on their best behaviour, and to above all be extremely polite to the sheikhs that ruled this barren patch of hellish land, for they had massive oil reserves. Hmm. As well as the entire control of the dockworkers, who offloaded the cases of 88mm ammo for his newly attached cannon.  Ernst still didn’t care much for the massive pile of steel, with all of it’s wheels and spokes that cluttered the curved deck.  The lighter guns were gone, and they had been outfitted with depth charge rails in France, though no depth charges were available. It all seemed rather silly to Otto, but who was he to complain? With the death of Hitler at the hands of his own generals, the war had taken another serious bend, but at least they weren’t being led by a madman who insisted that the “martians” were going to attack the fatherland!

So, going over the dynamics of a large gun platform on the S-100, we were discussing different ways to handle the stability problems, and after a few beers, thought that maybe some side elevated strakes, almost pontoons or outriggers, would help...did some sketches, and hit the web this morning only to find to my suprise that someone had beentheredonethat:

Interesting concept. Would something like that actually work on the real deal?

From what I've been able to find out, the good old Baron was working on a schnellboot with water wings, but was sidetracked until the end of the war, and then we all know what happened!

Sort of took a day off of work today (hey, I'm the boss, so I'll have to yell at myself soon) and built up the base for the stabilizer/foil assembly using clear plastic:

With all the sanding that everyone is doing for this GB I bet we could heat the shavings and cast a whole new kit!Tongue [:P]

On a more serious note though, I too really like the concept of this and the way it's looking so far! I cant wait to see that 88 on deck, of course I bet you can't either.

Ahha! those are the feet and legs of my at/st conversion currently underway...that's on the scifi thread.  Actually, haven't had much modeling time...lots of turmoil here, workwise, that is.

After finishing the mech and a quicky build of a J30, it's time to get back to the beast:

Made the new central fin from card stock, glued in and in the PSR phase:

I am delighted, whenever I see new pictures or read new stories by Cthulhu77.

You are an artist, with your hands and with your brain, your "what if" post war models are pure wonders.

Sorry I've been out of the loop for so long...two massive commissions, one finished now, and another in progress, but finally able to hit the workbench with some more weathering:
