Please! Please!  Would one of the model companies issue a WWll TROOP TRANSPORT SHIP - preferably an AP-130 G.O. Squier ship. Most of our dad's traveled overseas onboard these vessels. Everyone makes the 'big' newsworthy ships; aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers etc., but NO ONE makes the ships that got our troops to their destinations that won the war for us! Come on - give US a piece of history will you?

Well, Trumpeter does make a 1/350 scale Liberty Ship.

Here's the link to the Trumpeter model, Jermiah O'Brien at Free Time Hobbies.

And here's a link to a Resin Liberty Ship by L'Arsenal on Free Time:

There are SO many...and I believe it is pretty clear from how the ones they do make sell out, that the market is there.

I know the modern ones I am looking for thata I listed above would fly off the shelves here in the US if they were to come out with them

Ford Class CVN

Zumwalt Class DDG

America Class LHA

Queen Elizabeth Class CV

Canberra Class LHD

Hobart Class DDG

Izum Class DDH

etc.

Well considering that there are so many models of the Titanic would not a Carpathia be in order?

Also

A Canadian Fort WW2 freighter would be nice.

As the hull form was basically the same as a US Liberty even a after market kit to build the upper works would be in order and easily done.

Robert, you've got me thinking. I've spent some time this morning looking around for information on troop ship kits. In plastic they are non-existant.

There have been a very small handfull of Maritime Commission plastic kits. The Revell T2 is a prime example, the Revell C3 Hawaiian Pilot and The Revell Haskell class based on the Victory hull, plus more recently the Trumpeter Liberty. Renwal had an AKA.

AFA as troop ships- There's the Lindberg President Wilson/ Cleveland. To begin with, the kit is basically pretty crappy. And it's scale is a little "unknown", which makes conversion builds difficult as you need to settle on something.

As you might know, those two ships were laid down as the last two of the Admiral Benson class P2 troop transports, to be AP-128 and 129. Insofar as the whole class was designed for postwar conversion to liner service, the hull as launched wasn't so very different from the transport versions. From the deck up though, it'd be an adventure. I have one in the stash, I think I'll get it out and look it over. It's a big model, and with dazzle camouflage would be a looker.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Update: I think this is doable. Back dating to match the ones from the USN period would be a lot of work. But after the war this class was transferred to the Army, renamed after Generals, and modified to be quite a bit closer in detail to the ones that were built as liners.

Conclusion: if you want to build a troopship for the 1950's era, it looks fairly straightforward. If you want a WW2 troopship, not much to use above the main deck level, and quite a bit of mods for well deck forward.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

It's worth remembering that the Hawaiian Pilot, the subject of Revell's C-3 kit, served in WWII as an attack transport, with the name USS Burleigh. That should be a relatively straightforward conversion.

Hehehe...I know i is not what you meant...but there is a Forest Sherman destroyer out there:

It's a Trumpeter, 1/350 scale Burke AEGIS Flight IIA DDG, DDG-98, but a Forest Sherman none the less.

There was a Revell Foreest Sherman DD model from 1958...but I have not seen one of those in years. You might find one some time by watching eBay. Here's a picture of that kit:

Revell also had a later version that was on the OldModelKits site...but it sold some time ago.  Here's how it looked:

Cascade Model works also had a 1/350 scale USS Forest Sherman way back when, and here's a link to a build site for it on Steel Navy:

USS Forest Sherman BUild

Other than that, I do not think there is any model in any scale, that I have seen of them left out there unless, like I say, you can find one on eBay sometime..

Now, of the 18 Forest Sherman Class that were built in the 1950s (commissioned from 53-55). the USS Edson, DD-946, served 30 years from 1958 until 1988...and that was only 16 years before the existing Forest Shrman was launched.

Anyhow...couldn't help myself, because that last ship, the USS Edson, is now a NAtional Historic Site and MUseum ship at Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum at Bay City, Michigan.

Four of them were actually converted to DDGs getting one Mk-13 single arm launcher and Standard Missiles and ASROCs.

The actual Forest Sherman DDs, for their day, were quite capable vessels, and had good se handling...and displaced 4,000 tons full load..

$100.00 for the Revell USS Forrest Sherman?  Ironshipwrights has a 1/350 mixed media kit for $139.00!  It is far, far more accurate.

I concur with Zuiho, although Shoho would be appropriate as the first Japanese CV to be lost in the war.

How about USS Midway as she appeared following her 1973 refit, USS Coral Sea as she appeared in Vietnam, and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as built?

Kind of surprising, looking back 9-10 years and what was wanted, how many have come out.

The Yamato hull that was converted to a carrier would be another, even though it never made it into service (Archerfish bagged her).  Would be really the first of the "super carriers" had it survived.

I would also love to see a USS Forrestal class carrier as originally commissioned, as well as the USS Ethan Allen (the only class of American SSBN not represented in plastic or resin).

I think Revell, or Monogram had one out a long time ago in 1/542 scale.  AirFix and Aurora also had old kits.

The Revell kit can be found found now (also one for the Saratoga) on ebay.  Look here fro the Forrestal bidding at $20:

Look here for the Saratoga bidding at $10":
