Welcome to this forum, Mike. So you are new here and want to buy an airbrush. You heard of Aztek. First think to know is that there are some names that must not be pronounced ( like the name of Mrs I- don't- remember-now in "Young Frankestein" from Mel Brooks as it frightened horses ) and Aztek is one of them (oops, sorry) . The only advice I'll give to you is that one : Aztek ( again...) are made of plastic as are models, so don't be fool and don't try to spray on the airbrush with the plane in your hand as it won't work.
I must say that I owned three Azteks and liked them globally so I am allowed to make cheap humor on it ( yes sir , I have a cheap humor license )
Welcome back, chap.

Thank you all for coming José

hi Mikey!! welcome to the forums!!LOL since when did you start "BUYING" airbrushes?!! thats a new concept for you isn't it?Smile [:)]

my advice is to go to your friendly nieghborhood Walmart, find a guy or gal in a blue vest, and i'm sure they could point you in the right direction in purchasing a quality testor's spray system. top notch equipment buddy.

i hate to say it, but i am THE airbrushing Guru around here, and you just can't go wrong with the testors spray system, and you might as well get a couple of cans of propellant. later.
Smile [:)]

Uh, huh. Listen to him because he knows of what he speaks. I've been trying for a couple of days to get him to trade in that Iwanta airbrush he's got on a couple of rattle cans. I don't think he'd have to pay much extra.

Hmmmm. Do none of the guys in the FineScale forums use Badger airbrushes? I've had a Crescendo 175 model (nice weighted hand-piece, double-action) for about
10 years, and I absolutely love it. At the time, it seemed to be a lot nicer than the other Badger models like the popular 150. I didn't have to pay too much for it, either (cost about $80, as I recall). I had a small compressor already that was lying around at an uncle's house, so I went to a Lowe's home center, and bought a filter/water trap/regulator unit made by Jet, and some brass fittings to adapt the different pipe/tubing sizes between the compressor outlet, the filter and the airbrush hose, and I was good to go.

I've sprayed solvent-based paints like Floquil and ScaleCoat out of it, and water-based ones like Poly S, with equally nice success.

Are these Aztecs really some quantum leap in quality above something like the Crescendo?

*ALL* I use are Badger / Thayer and Chandler brushes. I have 4 of them for some reason, but really only use two of them. Saltydog and I have been picking at each other for over a year now because he's a big Iwata fan and I like Badger. It's all in good fun.

I've never used one, but I'll stick with what I have. Search this forum for the word "Aztek" and you can form your own opinion.

It's not that we need 4 Badgers, it is just that you can buy 4 of them for the price of one of those overpriced Japanese girly airbrushes you guys use. Tongue [:P]

I'm with saltydog here. I love my Iwata. Truly is better than the badger 155 i think.

Girly airbrushes? Sniff. Y'all never gonna get enlightened. Until recently I was a whole hearted supporter of badger, but that was before I got my Iwata of course. Make no mistake the 155 is one of the bets brushes around, it's just the hp-bcs is better.

Ford or Toyota?Tongue [:P] (I hope that doesn't offend anyone)

Trowlfazz, stop "badgering" us! Big Smile [:D]

I now have an airbrush, Badger 150 for which I paid $0.00. Thumbs Up [tup] I'll be investing $20 something bucks for a new needle and some bottles etc.

I had been looking at buying a new one, and had pretty well settled on the same airbrush. I looked hard at the Iwatas and can appreciate why somebody who uses them, likes them very much. But I don't think the Iwata is the best choice for a new user. Something like giving a 16yr old kid a Ferrari.

So long folks!

Oy bgrigg, i resemble that remark! I am 15 and I use an Iwata! Not a beginner really, i have been airbrushing models for a year now but still! I love that bursh, IU can do pencil lines without any hassle at all. My hp-bcs.

OK I have a 155 anthem as well and I thoroughly evaluated the Iwata against it. No matter what the badger can do, the Iwata can do it better. Fine lines are much easier to do with the hp-bcs, and i can get a finer line than with the badger. The only thing the badger has an edge in is it can spew out more paint at full flow than the iwata.

But i guess that's what you guys expect froma "girly" airbrush. Tongue [:P]

I've had a Badger Model 200 for years, and I'm happy with it.

Thayer and Chandler brushes are available from Badger.

Thank you, chap, I did not remember the name, Frau Blücher. Let's try something :
AZTEK !!! ( sound of scared Badger and/or Iwata users ) It works!!!
In fact, I was thinking we in the Old World are very happy as we have two amazing secret weapons : Aerograph ( Sprite, Super 63, Super 93 and a new one I forgot the name, no not Frau Blücher ) and Harder & Steenbek ( Evolution, Grafo, etc...) Believe me, chaps : one day, you'll see a white light, it won't be a Near Death Experience, it will lead you to those wonderful machines . Now I will be passing in the rows with a plate and you are going to give me some money for the new church I am building ( mais qu'est-ce que j'ai, moi ? )

Thank you all for coming José
