Welcome to the Forums!  Glad to have you aboard!

I've been building for 69 of my 75 years and build whatever strikes my fanct at the time.  I use a product called EZ Line from a place called Berkshire Junction.  It is an elastic thread and stretches to about double it's length without breaking or pulling loose from the point of attachment. Check it out.  It's great stuff.

Do an internet search on "Bob Ciccone", and look for photos of his models.  He's an award-winning ship modeler, and we're friends through our club.  Bob does amazing work with stretched sprue.  I learned a tip from him, to stretch a piece of sprue nearly to the thickness of a hair, by attaching a hex nut to the piece, then warming it till it can stretch, and letting the end with the nut attached drop.  The little bit of weight is enough to stretch, and gravity provides even force.

Hair is popular, too, though, for guys fortunate enough to have understanding wives or girlfriends, with long hair Wink

Hi, I would love to but I'm experiencing some problems uploading pics using my iPhone.

there is one thing I recently discovered, when  it come to ships rigging I always used to take sprues heat them to stretch them into strands, it works pretty good but a pain to work with, they either snap to easily or the glue completely melts them, so I came with the idea of useing my wife's hair (yea weird) but it works great it does not break as easily, they stay uniform in size and looks pretty good, I just finished the trumpeter USS Indionapolis.

Thank you all for the welcome,

I went and took a look online for Machinen Krieger, it looks very interesting, but I'm a bit of a purist if I can't make it work in 1/350 I usually leave it.

as for the 1/72 Nimitz, I have her in 1/350, been working on her on and off, just trying to find time to go visit her next time she's in port.

I have built some sci-fi stuff like a scratch build of the millennium falcon, some kit bashes and a few I designed myself.

Welcome to the forum!

Maybe you'll take up your dream of a 1/72 Nimitz.

Sci-fi--have you ever built any Maschinen Krieger subjects?

Best regards,

Brad

Hallo everyone, this is my first time in a forum, I currently live in Arizona, I have been building models since I was 8, 38 years ago, I started with all things 1/72 scale I grew up in South Africa and in 1989 I moved back to Switzerland, all the kits I had accumulated over 11 year I gave to a friend.

Back in Switzerland I had the great idea to build a 1/72 scale model of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, I had most of the air wing built when a job opportunity brought me to the USA, as before I gave my kits to a friend and made the move.

In 2000 I went to my local hobby store and asked if there was some thing new and challenging, she told me to try the 1/350 scale USS New Jersey from Tamiya, ( I love ships) well I was hooked!

So this brings us to now, having moved to Arizona with my wife my fleet has gown to 63 ships, not including aircraft, vehicles and Sci-fi some of which I designed, you could say I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to 1/350 scale, I work on 4 to 5 kits at any one time.
