...and I think we should start seeing other people.

So many of you have probably seen this lovely new image Photobucket has replaced our images with.

Wondering what that's all about? Greed. After years of hosting mine, and many of your images without complaint it seems that after all the login troubles, upload issues, and just plain broken down uselessness that Photobucket has given us of late they have now decided to ransom our images for a new upgrade package.

I'm sorry, but if this is the way it's got to be then so long. I don't need you anymore. There are plenty of free hosting sites still available, so good luck with your decision Photobucket.

Honestly this infuriates me. I have hundereds of images hosted on Photobucket and have done so for almost ten years with out a single issue. Then they get retarded and I had to find a new hosting site. Now this;

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level.

So all of my hundereds of images all over the web are now held hostage unless I pay a premium price for their freedom.

Nice going Photobucket. Seriously, I hope that works out for you. But I'm done. [/end rant]

I've noticed a few people are still posting imnages off PB, and that useage meter got me thinking. I went back and checked some of my old posts anbd my PB images are still there.

My guess is they have really dropped the amount of free space you get. The guys who arestill able to post have not reached the new limit. As i have not used PB for about a year, then i have not reached it either.

Was really nice of them to warn people. I was on there last night and saw nothing.

Any suggestions on an alternative?

Photobucket can EAD!

Any suggestions on an alternative?

There has been a few posts on this subject. With a little digging you can find them but I suggest Flickr. Once you learn how to copy the photos to this website, posting is a breeze compared to what it was with PB for me.

Thanks rooster,

I didnt have any issues posting to fsm, just Photobuckets bloody mindedness on the $400 to extort out of its users.

I would have used Google Photos but they dont have the ability to do 3rd party hosting!

Well looks like I'm gone from photobucket too. Will be switching to Flickr soon. I guess my 400 total photos on the bucket were too much. They can kiss it.

I have just gone onto the site and checked out the new plans. So are thery saying when people post images on here, thats 3rd party hosting. I thought that would have been classed as linking.

I told Photobucket to toss off last night after their latest antics.  I've deleted all my photos there and closed my account.  I opened a Flickr account last year and have slowly been learning the ins and outs with their set up.  So far, so good.

I really liked PB when I first signed up with them.  With the banners, ads, pop ups, bulk upload issues, crappy service, slow speeds and this final nail in the coffin, it was time to tell them to get stuffed.

I'd been using PhotoBucket's basic free service since here is the only place I've been posting photos. Guess I'll be looking around at what PB is charging for basic service as well as Flicker and ImageShack this weekend.

I don't mind paying for a service but PB has been pretty awful over the last few years. And I hate paying for shoddy service. We'll see how things go.

I foresee some people out of a job at P/B.

Stupid move.

So, does Flickr or imageshack have an app...simlar to P/B, that can upload directly from my phone/cam???

I don't use PB, but I have noticed when looking at images other forum members have posted using PB that they take longer to load, and lately, there are these horrible click bait ads that pop up over the image.  I also used to be able to get a magnified view, but can't seem to do that anymore.

Sorry you guys have been having these issues.

Lesson learnt for me I suppose. I have a small quantity of images in comparison to others. But $400/yr is a joke and no where did it say "No 3rd Party Hosting" when I signed up.

It reminds me of when a certain online retailer wanted to charge an annual subscription so I could receive more of their advertisements, the utter arrogance is simply astonishing.

I got that message from Photobucket yesterday.  I had already started trying other sites.  Had a lot of trouble with flicker.  Been trying Google Photos, but cannot seem to get right address (URL) for the photos to allow them to be seen by third party.

Imageshack is my site of choice. I've been with them for around 3 to 4 years and only had one problem several years ago, after that they have been great. They do cost $39 +change per year to use them for third party but that's just over $3 a month, no biggie.

NO pop ups, NO malware, No videos nothing just your pictures.

Eat Stuff And Die is a little different from Eat A Di*k. Lol. I know what he said.

So I'm obviously not alone in thinking Photobucket just crapped the bed with this decision lol.

There are already some good suggestions on alternative hosting sites, but the one I'm currently using; Use.com is also easy to use. Once you realize that half the code you post is just a link for (Click here to enlarge) its easy enough to edit out.

I have to app on my phone an that's how I upload. Its been trouble free so far, and get this; NO FEES!

Amazing.

Anyways... Again, good luck ransoming peoples images Photobucket. But you may want to choose a different business model if you want to survive. Everyone HATES ransomeware, so bad choice on your part.

Edit: Anyone remember Napster? An add free, no fee, music exchange/download site. Of course they were court ordered to start charging fees, but it died almost overnight and everyone went to torrent downloads from that point forward.

Then Apple convinced everyone that paying for music that was formerly free was cool, somehow.  But there are still ways to get what you want. Many of them are not technically legal, but not illegal yet either lol.

My point is, we will always have an alternative and this type of ransoming will not be tolerated by many of us. This isn't freedom, it's just capitalism. 'murika!

Since I went with Imageshack, no problems, and I still have all the pics I put on PB in the my pics file on the laptop, so will just let it go away quietly and die in peace.

Hey Don,

I use the google photos app on my phone.  The only way I know to get a pic on this site is to pull up a photo on the app , then click the button on the left, the one with the box with an arrow pointing up coming out of it.  Then choose "create a link" in the bottom row of what opens up, then email to my PC.  Open the pic on the PC, click on the pic, copy, then paste in the forum.  Kind of an annoying process, so I will be checking out the suggestions above.

My images are still linked so I guess I haven't hit that critical threshold. However, I will start researching other hosting sites.

Okay, I have started an album on Google Photo.  Good user interface- no need to sign in or anything- it recognizes your computer and you go right to album.  Had trouble at first, went to a selected photo, and copied the URL from address window in my browser.  That did not work!

I then went back to image, and right clicked on image. One option was copy image location.  I selected that, went back to forum, selected the picture icon, and did a control-v in address window of the pop-up screen.  That worked fine.  I am now going to switch to Google Photo.
