I deleted most of my pictures..... then I left them a message that would make a sailor on 3 days shoreleave blush.  I then changed all my account information to the most foul words I could think of.    Havent cursed that much since the time I ground the tip of my finger off with a Dremel !!!

I wonder if it's still costing them to put up all those upgrade displays where our pictures used to be?

Looks like they have finally found me. Got not one but 2 e-mails this today telling me to pay up. Funny, i have not used the site in months, and the day after i try, i stress TRY, to delete my account, i get an e-mail saying if i don't pay the money, i can use their site.

I guess thats one way to try and get me to change my mind.

The email I got from them wasn't very friendly either.

Y'know, this seems to me like the very same thinking that went into the greedy shiphead that bought a drug making company and upped the price of its product by 1000% just so he could buy more cars, houses, and yachts.

I'm all for capitalism, but this over the top heavy handed greed is getting seriously out of control. When you're saying f.u to those who pay you the money, you're standing on thin ice.

This is just bad business.

A Seattle based company called Ontela purchased Photobucket from Fox in 2009 for $29 million less than it was valued at.

So it's not a sinking ship, it sunk and now they want us to start bailing it out. Um, sorry, but it's too late for that.

Get your images off their site as soon as you can, before this whole thing burns to ashes as well.

I'm not going to pay a ransom for some rich as$hats bad investment strategies. Sounds like "Bro" logic to me.

Yesterday, I was wondering what all the Photobucket nonsense was doing on the aircraft forum as I couldn't see any pictures, and I've learned a lot as to the idiocy with them. As I pointed out in the Aircraft forum, I would rather buy 400 bucks worth of Tupperware or a large terrarium and keep pet bedbugs.

I haven't used PB in years. The sites where I post any photos of my modeling allow direct upload from my computer. That means PB is no longer needed by me at any time, so no loss.

I would think that there's a way to set up ones own third party share site.

i guess licensing is required.

They don't give a rip. All they care is making more $ just like eBay's rate changes. PB will infest your pc with adware and even Trojans. Two nights ago my antivirus intercepted a Trojan as I was deleting my account.

I would whine about it, but I'd likely pony up $40 for a year of AD FREE Pb usage. Those ads are seriously obnoxious! How can they justify that kind of bandwidth shrinkage to the point of making the site almost useless?

We have the fastest private net speed Comcast offers out here. There shouldn't be a problem, but Pb is so clogged up with ads it takes almost a minute to load a page. For a modern site that is phenomenally slow! That's the fastest I've seen a page load since they loaded it up with IN YO FACE! advertisements That take up the entire screen and take 90 seconds to close out. Each. Stinking. One. At. A. Time.

Who thought that would help??

Yes there is widespread outrage over this. I gave up over a month ago when I couldn't log in to upload and no one would answer my email.

I can't blame anyone for the anger and utter revulsion for Photobucket right now. They really brought this upon themselves and I hope some execs lose their useless jobs for it. They don't seem to have any purpose besides sucking up large amounts of cash for nothing these days anyways.

"Yay for us! We just held the entire internet image industry for ransom. Let's all go buy new Lambo's! Yay us!"

it just makes me angry. >:P

I would have been more than happy to pay upto a maximum of around $30 -$40 USD per year for the so called "3rd party hosting" service, as I don't see what the major expense is to the bottom feeders in the first place. But as I have been succesful in getting Google Photos to work, they get nothing, nada, zilch.

My concern with other current free services, is that they may change to a fee structure that is more than most of us are willing to pay or end up being another PB hiest.

I suppose if you have your photos stored and hosted for years for free,  then they ask for you to pay a moderate (exactly opposite to PB's decision) amount of money to do so, you can't really complain, can you?

Well I figure what they thought would happen is that we would all pony up the dough, they would give enormous bonuses to their execs and life would go on with the net grumbling, but still in tow.

They may not have factored in the idea that we would all give them the finger and look elsewhere. Corporate greed is not going unnoticed these days and most of us are seriously sick of it.

This scheme of theirs probably would've worked if they had not asked for so much. Some alternate pricing plans would've been far more welcome than the all or nothing approach they've chosen and we would all be less happy, but still on board.

Nope, the chose to hold the internet for ransom instead. I hope some exec loses his useless job for talking them into this.

Besides traditional modeling (which is my first love), I also model and play tabletop wargames.  This pathetic move by photobucket has hit the different gaming sites pretty hard.  There is a LOT of anger being posted, and I can only guess that photobucket knew this would happen and simply didn't care.  I don't see how they can survive when there are decent options as competitors, but I guess time will tell.  I hope they do go out of business as a cautionary tale for other sites..                                                                                                                                      knox

For what it's worth, this method works in Firefox. I'm going to try it in Safari and IE and Windows next, then share the results...

After you've opened new accounts elsewhere, which I did, please don't delete your PB public blog albums, and this is why:

I can still view your blog with images you've posted "third party hosting" in the forums without you paying 4 decks of cards.

1) I'm at your blog thread because your model subject title caught my attention.

2) I RIGHT CLICK any one of your posted images that now look like that dial and warning message we've now all seen and choose View Image.

3) A new window opens and it either opens that image or I get the dial and warning image instead. From there I click the link above and to the left, "Uploaded By ... so and so

4) This takes me to their public library.

5) I scroll around to find the specific album of the blog I'm looking for.

6) Click on that album and the album page 1 will open and show a whole page of thumbnails.

7) Stay on page 1 for approx. 30 seconds to 1 minute. Yes, I had to play shooting gallery with all the ads, that cannot be avoided. What is happening is that all of the images are cache to my computer. I had to do this with each page if more than 1 in the album.

8) go back to the blog thread or open a new browser window and return to the blog thread.

9) Now all of your pictures are cache and I can now view you blog with pictures like you intended.

internet speeds vary so this will affect this method

PB Picked the fredden good time to pull this garbage with all the other work that I have been trying to accomplish. I seemed to had been one of the first to be "hacked" when members here were telling me that there was a bandwidth issue with my PB account.  I'd go there, re log in, and then all my pics would come back. Then I get the snotty email from PB telling me I'm not allowed to share third party anymore unless I upgrade.  I tried their "upgrade" once and all that worked was how fast they charged my credit card.

I've been testing posted pictures with my Google Drive account and so far, they work.  I got a few here on FSM I posted back in December.  Reason being was that Google was supposedly wiping third party after 30 days.

I just downloaded my albums and deleted my account and boy did that feel good.Big Smile

Steve

log on Pb and go to your settings. I stumbled on the delete account button and done. It says afterwards it may take up to 48 hrs to take effect. I don't need any of the pictures since I have them in my pc.

Something tells me the days of free stuff is coming to an end.

So, interesting thing. I've looked at a bunch of online polls and there's a pretty wide range of web host sites, with some consistent favorites.

Assuming these polls go back a ways, and considering where PB was even a week ago- completely absent from any favorites lists I found.

Has anyone used Google Prime? I'm generally pretty happy with their other products.

Well, let's see if Fotki works...

YyyyyyyEEEAAAAAHHHH, Baby!!! How easy---try Fotki. Just hit the "share" button on any photo and your link is automatically copied. Exactly the same as Photobucket USED to be. Smile

JohnnyK

the following image is from my Photobucket account. I pay $2.49/month so  that I no longer see their ads. Maybe that is why my images that are stored on Photobicket show up.

My old PB images arestill being displayed and i have a free account. But i have not used the site in a year or so so perhaps thats somthing to do with it.

Johnny, log in and click on the Library link. Then click on the library you want to download (you may have to wait...and wait...just be patient till the page loads fully). When all your images are displayed, there will be a list of options on the right side. Click on the Actions button and then click on Download Album.

Once you convince them you're not a robot, you can click on the Download button. It may take a while before it's ready - the site puts your images in a Zip file. When the file is ready, click on Download again and you will be given the option to save it. Just pick a destination and download the file.

Good luck!

Thank you Striker for the "How To." Much appreciated!

Steve
