Just sent photobucket a nice note.........

Your update to your terms of agreement will put your company out of business. An image hosting site is exactly that a site to hold my images to do what I wish with. Your ideas for changing a "free" site to trying to charge me $400 a year to allow me to put my pictures on a forum is ridiculous. Over the last few months your site has gone down the tubes. The amount of pop ups and ads crashes the site half the time. After 15 years of being on this site you may cancel my account. Emptylakebass@cox.net. tempestjohnny.

PS thank you for ruining message boards and forums everywhere with your little hijack of everyone's pictures. All I see is that usage meter everywhere

Windows10 with touch screen.

2000 images. I'll get rid of most of them because they are often downloads off familiar sites, to provide info to others.

But I've thrown away most of my models as I've built them, and the images are only elsewhere on my iPhone backups.

i sypppse this forum will forever have a moment frozen in time where all of the great illustrated WIP posts will have been wrecked by PB.

So long PB!!! I saw information on this on a few other forums and FB group pages. I have yet to receive the email from them advising of the change; however, I am going to find a new hosting site. I've been looking into Flickr and Imgur. The problem I've seen with Imgur so far is that you are limited to how much you can upload per hour with the free service, I'm not sure if this changes for a paid account.

Fortunately I dont have a whole lot on their site. Unfortunately, some of the images I have there I lost the original files to when I had a hard drive crash last year and lost a bunch of photos. I'm going to spend some time this evening and see if I can get them copied over to my current PC. Sounds like a few hours of stress ahead of me tonight.

I tried to no avail to save the few images from PB that I really wanted. They just won't let me have them no matter what I try. I finally spent my time deleting all my images and then I deleted my account.

I also read an article from an online PC mag, I forget who, that said we can expect this sort of action from many more "free" hosting sites as their ad revenues are nose diving. This makes me think that we should be proactive in retrieving ALL the images we truly want from the other sites and save them ourselves. It is very likely this is not the last time we will see something along these lines. Free just means they are selling your personal demographics to make revenue. Paid is safer, but no guarantee. Today I will be retrieving my photos from Flickr just in case they do something similar.

We need to heed this as a warning of the furture.

Brandon, sorry not to get my post up in time. I was able to grab my entire photobucket album and download it onto my PC in one step. It's via a button on their site.

Uploaded all my photos and images from my PB account and zipped the album to my computer. Closed my account along with a note stating my reasons why. Now going to upload them to another photo sharing service site later. Good riddance PB!!!

So, I have been away for a few months due to "life stuff" and a flooded basement/mancave.

So, finally have some hobby this time this long weekend, decide to take some WIP pics...

Then I see this PB clusterfk...

Then I log onto PB on my PC, get assaulted by endless popup ads, dload attempts by who knows what, and I am unable to even access my pics...

*sigh*

I smell a class action brewing over how they handled this.

I smell a class action brewing over how they handled this.

According to PB terms of service they can change their terms whenever they feel like it.

However, there is nothing in their terms about making their prices "RECTROACTIVE".

This is effectivly what they did... by hi-jacking your photos from posts made prior to this they have retroactivly changed their prices.

Thats like going to your favorite coffie shop and buying your usual $3 cup only to find out its now $50... plus you owe for the two years of coffie you already drank!!!

I'm sure there will be a class action lawsuit... but the only people that will benifit from it will be the lawers.

Meanwhile there are a bunch of W.I.P. threads that are forever lost to time.

I wish I could find those responsable and slap them silly!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

There's a point I've been pondering, which is the damage done to this forum from PB's action. It wipes out fourteen years of photos en masse. Participation rates aren't what they used to be, and if the free sites go away for good, then there will be better options than forums to share and converse with other modelers. Now you lose the history, and soon the future looks to be moving away from this experience.

Go to Accounts, choose Delete Account. Photobucket will delete the account in 48 hours.

the following image is from my Photobucket account. I pay $2.49/month so  that I no longer see their ads. Maybe that is why my images that are stored on Photobicket show up.

Since you have all covered very well what PB has done, I won't comment further on that.

However, an idea occurred to me...what about FSM hosting photos? They certainly have a big stake in our participation, and we can't really participate without being able to host our photos.

I wouldn't mind paying FSM a fee because I know they wouldn't do something like that to us. So, how to bring this to FSM's attention?

Cheers,

Russ

Yes, the sites like FSM and others will either have to host images, a la Facebook, or go out of business. If free photo hosting sites disappear, that is likely what will happen in the long run. I don't know about you, but I am reluctant to click on links on forum sites. Even if they supposedly lead to someone's photos. Especially from folks who are new to forums.

JohnnyK,

I assume that PB will honor any "paid" subscriptions until they run out.  When will yours run out?

PB has really taken a heavy handed approach to their new terms and conditions. It is outright disgusting because it has made numerous postings irrelevent because the photos are gone.

I have had numerous problems with PB. I do not trust them at all. I will be moving all of my photos out of PB.

It would be nice if FSM began hosting photos, but I am sure that that would require a new computer with a lot of storage capacity.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

I can still post fine with PB free. Is that because I only have about .1 GB on it. It says I have 10GB free. I have not got an email either. I also tried USE and it worked great. Super easy from my phone but I don't think they have an app, do they?

Yeah, there are currently plenty of options available online for us. This is one business decision I just can not fathom their thought process. Unless their intent is to lighten their load of users.

Johnny, log in and click on the Library link. Then click on the library you want to download (you may have to wait...and wait...just be patient till the page loads fully). When all your images are displayed, there will be a list of options on the right side. Click on the Actions button and then click on Download Album.

Once you convince them you're not a robot, you can click on the Download button. It may take a while before it's ready - the site puts your images in a Zip file. When the file is ready, click on Download again and you will be given the option to save it. Just pick a destination and download the file.

Good luck!
