You know, I find that my background music is determined by what point I'm at, opening,de-sprueing, sanding ,filling; rock maybe Metallica, maybe Stones?, fitting, assembly, up to priming;maybe Eagles, John Prine ?, painting, detailing, etc; Van Morrison, maybe classical. Hope you get my drift. Merry Christmas

Although I have large CD and album collections, I tend to use Rhapsody while I am at the bench. I have numerous playlists that range from classical, country, big band, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc rock, new age and jazz. I'll listen to about any kind of music except hiphop or rap.... or any autotune stuff. Being a guitarist and having played in a number of bands, I lean towards guitar music the most.

I have a 120GB iPod Classic that has about 7700 songs on it, and the genres run the gamut from Hank, Sr., to Billy Joel, to Evinescence, to Mozart, to bluegrass, to bagpipes, to marches, and to everything else except hip-hop & rap. I put it on random play, so I never know what's coming up next.

Doc Watson, Ma Bell and the Carter Family, Lonesome Too, Seldom Scene, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Will The Circle Be Unbroken, Earl Scruggs. Oh yeah, and some Frank Zappa when I'm in that mood. Or some Frank Sinatra when I'm in that mood. Some have suggested medications for my moods. I just turn up the volume or put my headphones on.

Like some have mentioned here I'm all over the map. I've got about 250 gigs of classic rock, some country and some of the more hard rock selections so it's whatever strikes me at this time I guess. I tend to build at around 3:30-6 a.m. though so I can't just crank it up. lol

Sports.  I tend to tune it out to some extent but every once in while (when there is bunch of cheering for example) I tune back and get a score update.  If there isn't any sports on, then XM radio tuned to Deep Tracks or Classic Rock.

Soothing.

GAF

Depends on what I'm working on.  Theme music for the model, I suppose.  Say I'm working on a WWII Corsair or Hellcat, then it's the soundtrack from "Victory at Sea". ......

Do you have the CD version or the 2nd Volume LP release containing the bombardment intro for Allies on the March:

Troubled times indeed, but I just think back to the words Lale Andersen sang so long ago:

" auf jeden Dezember folgt wieder ein Mai "

and those sung more recently by Su Kramer in the German production of Hair:

" Wenn der Mond im 7. Hause steht

und Jupiter auf Mars zugeht

herrscht Frieden unter den Planeten

lenkt Liebe ihre Bahn

Genau ab dann regiert die Erde der Wassermann

regiert sie der Wassermann

der Wassermann, der Wassermann!"  Stick out tongue

Try the Heinlien's original story of Starship Troopers or his Sixth Column.

GAF, interested in a copy of Victory at Sea Part 2?

Typically I watch something on AHC, History Discovery, and Science ETC. Sometimes Old Time Radio on XM, but Mr. Tilley has a venue I never thought of...audio books. I have a score of audio books from Audible that I haven't started yet, mostly Sci Fi. I need to try that.

I've been collecting classical CDs ever since the CD was introduced (making my classical LP collection obsolescent), so that's the kind of thing I usually listen to when I'm working on a ship model.

I'm also a huge fan of audiobooks for that purpose. A year or so I discovered a remarkable website: www.naxosaudiobooks.com . That company offers an incredible range of titles in the form of CDs and digital downloads (cheaper and no wait for them to ship). Note that some of the books are abridged, and some aren't. (I draw the line at the unabridged War and Peace - or Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.)

One time I listened to Joseph Conrad's Typhoon while working on a model on a nice summer evening. I had to open the workshop window to assure myself that a typhoon wasn't blowing outside.

Highly recommended.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Depends on what I'm working on.  Theme music for the model, I suppose.  Say I'm working on a WWII Corsair or Hellcat, then it's the soundtrack from "Victory at Sea".  Or if I'm working on Star Trek's USS Enterprise, then it's the soundtrack from the TV or movies.  I'm working on a WWII WACO glider right now, so it's the soundtrack from "Band of Brothers" and "Saving Private Ryan".
