If you like to see some perfection, check out Lancair IV build of the Atomic City 1/12 Mercury space capsule on the Forum Space page. Amazing work

I would honestly call myself a perfectionist but will never say any of my builds are perfect.

Yes, Id redo a bad paint job. I have.  If I cant rectify scratchbuilt details Id redo it. I guess it goes with my mindset that Id probably not do a similar kit (or at least not in the near future) anyway so might as well churn out the best model I can.

I'm not a perfectionist by any means but I'm a firm believer in the fact that if you know your subject well enough you'll try to add more items into the build and expect more from it in regards to finish and appearance.

I try, but you wouldn't know it. I think I have OCD and that's why I rarely finish anything these days.

I'd have to finish a model first before I would try and figure out if I'm perfectionist or not.  I know I get distracted and lose momentum when I create flaw.  I have to learn to push ahead, learn and improve with each sub-assembly and kit build.

Depends!

Sometimes I just build a model for the fun of it, and do not expect it to be that great- maybe a subject I love, but the kit is a cheap one lacking details.

Sometimes it is a model I think will do well in contests- a neat subject and an accurate and detailed kit.  I will build it as a contest model, and it has to be as good as I can make it.

Sometimes it is a model of a subject I love, and a great kit.  It may be one I know will not do well in a contest (a civil aircraft or ship).  I will take care to build it well, but not with the thought of it being contest model.

So it all depends.

Yes my name is Jay and I am a perferctionist, my wife calls me that anyway. Stick out tongue

I usually hafta repaint/redo stuff on almost every model I build which makes me a slow builder. i just can't leave it alone or help myself.  Is there a model builders anonymous I could join?

I'd have to agree with everyone so far....I try to do my best and keep it at that. If I was truely a perfectionist I would have a ton of models sitting around incomplete. Before long you would be engulfed by incomplete projects and talking to yourself...outloud Confused

Modelman, you make it sound like talking to yourself out loud is a bad thing. Propeller

I make a note on my error/mistake, try not to do it again but move ahead on the build. Otherwise, I would never finish anything...

DittoI was about to say, if I were a perfection ist, I'd never finish a car model, ever. Smile

I believe that perfectionism has no place in "Art". Machines and robots produce products and examples with....well, "machine-like" perfection. Their has to be a human element evident in Art or I'm not much moved by it, whatever it is. Even if it IS "less than perfect". Smile

Yes, I am a perfectionist, but, not with model building. I've only completed 2 models in 2015. The first two that I've completed in 20+ years. Many of the techniques I used on these models were tried for the first time and I expected to make some mistakes.

I imagine the more experience with these techniques the better the quality of the model, but, I'm in no way looking for perfection. Good enough is good enough for me!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Nope. I'm more of a "do the best I can" guy. Besides, being a perfectionist is boring.

I'm "picky", more than I am a perfectionist.

If I were a perfectionist....I'd be a failure! I haven't built a single model that doesn't have flaws. Not everyone can see them, but I know they're there.

I think it kind of goes with such a detailed

hobby. Do you ever find your self redoing

painted areas over on your scale model ?

I think it sometimes it is better to just leave

the odd mistake in for what it is worth and

the time to fix it.
