Yes sir I did. I used a 1/48 scale PE mottle mask set. They work ok but if I had it all over to do again I would have had a less hard edge on the mottles. I'm not brave enough to free hand something like this yet but I'm getting there.

Amen Mustang. Did you use a mask for those mottles? I know Eduard makes an etched set, but I've never tried them.

Thanks Greg. I first coat them with a rattle can Model Master metalizer paint followed by a thinned down rust acrylic and then use a coat of Mig productions dark wash. Lastly I use ground up black pastel just to deaden the finish. So far its been workin' for me.

Joe, I don't know how I managed to miss this thread last fall. What a great job you did! The detail is mouth-watering.

Could you refresh my memory.... what color or color recipe do you use for your engine exhausts? They always look so spot on. (I think you told me once, can't find my note).

Yeah....I got another one in my near future too...I'm thinking maybe the Eduard E-3 I have in the stash.  The Luftwaffe bug bites me quite often.

Joe,

I am humbled into submission by this build.  WOW!  Makes me want to give up and cry, when I look at my pitiful planes.   Fantastic job.

Thanks Lyle. The mask was an Eduard mask for 1/48 scale 109s.

My goodness, Mustang. Hard to believe that is a 'first-timer'. Love the detail and weathering. I also like the idea of a mask for the mottle effect. May have to try that one.

Lyle.
