bvallot

What do you think about the Tamiya build vs. the Eduard?

Thanks bvallot! First off, the Eduard kits are awesome kits if you want to display a completed build opened up. They are a little tricky for a beginner but not impossible. The Tamiya builds are 1) stupid easy to build (you could almost turn the box of contents upside down and you might end up with an unpainted completed model on the floor if youre not careful) and the way to go to build one closed up without alot of work. The Tamiya has imperfections that can be corrected and the Eduard is almost on the money accuracy wise. Tamiyas are a little more expensive but easy and Eduards are the best bang for the buck detail wise but aren't as easy.

After the upper and lower wing separated at the wing root on the starboard wing in transit to the last show I went to with this one I didn't think I'd be able to enter it in another contest. I was able, however, to repair it and make it presentable for her last appearance on the show circuit before retiring her to the display case for good.

She won 1st place in the category and then something I didn't see coming was this:

A special award for Best WWII Axis Aircraft in Show:

She went out with a "Bang".

Congratulations Joe for a well-deserved win!  It's a beautiful model, I'm not surprised that the judges saw its great merit as well.   Muy bien my friend!

Congrats Joe. That is a stunning Dora. That engine may be the finest I've ever seen. Award well deserved...

Thank you for the kind comments fellas.

Greatmaker: It aint that bad really. It just has to be broken down into bits, planned out properly, remember not to go too fast and it's all good.

Joe: The one you just got through with in that Bf109 of yours was right there with it or bettter.

Go for it, Mustang!! All of us like watching your WIP's. I'm always amazed at how much detail you can pack into a model. An aircraft kit is calling your name and we're waiting to see if you answer!

Thanks Bill. I guess I just fell out of love with aircraft for a while. It doesn't help that I've got an automotive repair background and love hotrodding in the 1:1 scale world. I really don't building factory stock stuff that much and use my creative skills to build that which I cannot afford in the real world. Lately though, I've had an itch that I don't think I can ignore for too much longer to build another WWII subject. I've still got one or two more automotive builds to go that I'm pretty much in the middle of.

My first completed kit in near 30 years was a 1/72 Hobby Boss Hawker Hurricane for this years Weekend Madness group build. It's not pretty but it was what I needed to get off the fence and out of the shadows and start building again. It was one of the easy assembly kits but the painting was what I feared the most. Like I said it ain't pretty but I learned a lot and got over the fear.

Finish your current projects, go outside, take a deep breath and ponder what aircraft is calling for your detailer's touch. I for one can't wait to see what you come up with but I know that it will be worth the wait. Maybe you should do an egg plane for some fun and less stress.

Very nice looking build! I always thought that that was an interesting airplane with the long landing gear and the paddle props.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

To echo others, your band of friends and followers will happily watch. If you build it they will come and all that.

Didn't another of your 190 threads get resurrected yesterday? I'm not awake yet.

And hey, Nathan, it is good to hear from you indeed. Try not to be a stranger.
