Congrats Joe. That is a stunning Dora. That engine may be the finest I've ever seen. Award well deserved...

Fantastic work mustang! Your a far braver soul than I to display all the "innards". I try very hard to cover all of mine up. Thanks for sharing this amazing build

Congratulations Joe for a well-deserved win!  It's a beautiful model, I'm not surprised that the judges saw its great merit as well.   Muy bien my friend!

After the upper and lower wing separated at the wing root on the starboard wing in transit to the last show I went to with this one I didn't think I'd be able to enter it in another contest. I was able, however, to repair it and make it presentable for her last appearance on the show circuit before retiring her to the display case for good.

She won 1st place in the category and then something I didn't see coming was this:

A special award for Best WWII Axis Aircraft in Show:

She went out with a "Bang".

bvallot

What do you think about the Tamiya build vs. the Eduard?

Thanks bvallot! First off, the Eduard kits are awesome kits if you want to display a completed build opened up. They are a little tricky for a beginner but not impossible. The Tamiya builds are 1) stupid easy to build (you could almost turn the box of contents upside down and you might end up with an unpainted completed model on the floor if youre not careful) and the way to go to build one closed up without alot of work. The Tamiya has imperfections that can be corrected and the Eduard is almost on the money accuracy wise. Tamiyas are a little more expensive but easy and Eduards are the best bang for the buck detail wise but aren't as easy.

This is KILLER Mustang!! All these German builds are making it so difficult to stay in the Pacific.  =]

Forgot to squeak this one in here as well. The tail section opened up a little. The CMK undercarraige kit included a retracting spring in the box but it sucked so bad that I wasn't about to use it. Instead I used a piece of guitar string I had layin' around and after a coat of paint and a wash it was ready to install.....

Thanks alot allan! I have to say it was an enjoyable build for the most part. The only problem I have really is handling it for picture taking due to a finished model like this being so dang delicate. Aside from that ..............it doesn't get moved at all!!

Man you guys are too kind! Thank you sanderson, Joe Rix (for putting up with me as well) , Bish--Thank YOU for being a part of that GB, Devil Dawg (the kit OOB is run of the mill--LOL) and lawdog.

Lawdog: I shaped the top of the landing gear strut in the shape of a square ( I had two spares and destroyed the first strut) to perfectly fit in the square insert for the landing gear on the Tamiya wing and did alot of measuring to ensure both struts were of equal length so that the bird would have an even stance as viewed from the front. The gear doors were a good reference as well. I'll put together a little tutorial on it and see if I can be of further help to properly illustrate what I'm talking about.
