I just started working on the clear parts of the clear cowling.  Utilizing CA for the magnets, I'm very careful not to get it cloudy.

The clear cowling looks like #%^>€£>~%^!!!  So I'm going to leave everything open.  Tamiya, this is a bad call!

Some time ago, I built a Me 262 and a SBD Dauntless.  These were visible CLEAR parts that you could see through.  For the kind of money I paid, you would thing Tamiya would be a little smarter!

P.S.  The Me 262 and the SBD Dauntless were trumpeter 1/32 kits.  Shame on you Tamiya!

Oh ya that's total BS. What a joke. You need to write a strongly written letter. Are you going to paint the clear one then?

Yes, it is BS!  It is a bad decision on Tamiya's part.  I never thought of writing a letter to them.  It might be a good idea to do so!Thank you for that.

As for painting the clear part I will not do so.  I will completely delete the cowling's and show off all my work in the Merlin and the Merlin's engine mounts via so to speak naked.

I did this with my Trumpeter P-38 Lightning and it look just stunning and beautiful.  I think I can achieve that same scenario with the Mossie!  Thank you for your information as well as your support and visit in my build.

As you can see, or cannot see, LOL!  I'm going to use the so called clear cowlings as masks for the entire Merlin then when I'm done AB the Mossie I'll simply remove the panels to show off the Merlins.

Here's a good example of masking.

Thanks iampiper13.  I'm going to display my Mosquito without the cowling. This will make me very happy as I and forum members get to view the details and the Merlin's.  Thanks for stopping by!

Reference the clear parts, I recall with the 1/32 Tamiya Corsair I'm building came with a sheet telling you ow to improve the clarity of the clear parts.  I think you have to spray them with their clear gloss or something. It wasn't my bag so I really didn't pay it much mind.  Try and find it for your Mossie.

Otherwise, that looks great!

Yes, I made that same Corsair and sprayed it clear but these pieces are beyond blurry, it's like a bad nightmare.  LOL!  I did spray clear, future, etc.  didn't work.  I just will use them as masks and completely delete them and present my Mossie bare.

Well that is a shame Toshi.  I would expect more from them as well.  Glad you have been able to improvise!  Keep up the good work!

In reality I'm not sure if the cowlings would be completely detached from the airframe for maintenance but, if you had some sort of small diorama in mind, might you not paint them and then show them beneath the Mossie as if the maintenance mechanics had put them there? Sorry if this is a stupid suggestion - just trying to provide an idea to use those parts.

Your build is fascinating and I'm im awe of the detail in the kit and how you've managed to bring it all together so far.

You're doing a great job!! Toast

I would not use any of the clear parts on this model, it will detract all the fine detail you added.  You are wise to show the plane as if it was going through an inspection and have all the access panels removed.

Those spanner wrenches are so real!

Scott,

Is your reasoning because the "clear" panels on Toshi's kit are not detailed/thin/realistic enough to paint? Or, perhaps, because they'd have to be in several pieces to represent the actual panels? Just curious.

I gather you live near Schanueiyite Martin Johnson Airport?

Thank you sir.  I think displaying the Mossie without the cowling would be the best option IMHO.  Thanks for the tip, it might be something I would pursue!

Hi Mike,

I think Toshi and I both agree that the panels were not only frosted, but thick and obtrusive and deter from the details of the rest of the model.  They could be painted and used, or maybe sanded thinner, painted, and cut into actual panel sections.  Of left off completely and all those nice details open to the admired.

Osa Martin Johnson Airport to be excactBig Smile

Regards,

Scott
