1/35 Hobby Boss Fieseler Storch Regia Aeronautica complete
Posted by modelcrazy on Monday, June 25, 2018 9:24 PM

Hi guys, well to add to the massive number of projects I've got going on I'm adding the 1/35 Hobby Boss Fieseler Storch (actually, I'm finishing a few up). I'm planning on completing it mid-July or August
It's a fairly low parts kit but has crisp molding and great fitting parts. The kit can be built with the engine exposed but there is some slight modification to leave all the cowls off. I'm also adding detail to the engine such as ignition wires and hoses.

Thanks for looking.

Steve

Cool.  I built the hasegawa kit...30+ years ago...

I want to see that motor all wired up

Thanks,

John

I'll be watching this one closely, my wife bought me the Tamiya storch for Christmas last year and I don't know much about them.

Thanks Chad, The progress is slow with the detail but I'm finishing painting and weatheing the engine, firewall and interior before closing it up, then I'll take some more pics. The kit has quite few fidely bits to go on, especially the wing. All the little hinges, counterweights, tubes, lights etc, going to be fun.

That looks like a pretty nice little kit and you're gonna make it look great. I will be watching for more pics.

I got the interior in, halves together and engine installed. I need to hook up a few more random hoses, linkages and tubes to make it look plausable.

Steve,

As with all of your builds, this one is coming along nicely - very nicely!

Two questions:

1. Is there a way you can upload your images so that we can view a larger image? In other words, with a larger image to upload, will imageshack allow the image to be enlarged while viewing it after it's been posted on FineScale? I'd just like to see a larger view of your fine work.

2. How're the new lungs working out?

Hi Mike and thanks,

The lungs are doing great. The difference is amazing with proper working organs.

Imageshack gives you the ability to upload images in a larger size. The only thing is, once I put them on Imageshack they stay that size. I can upload the same image to Imageshack in a larger format and put them up though.

I saw one Storch on Pinterest that blew my mind! If it was 1/35, it was unbelievable the detail that was put in. I find next to imposable to put the level of detail in but I guess there are people who can. My medications give me the shakes so what you see is the best I can do with the materials and tools I have.

Thats a JM Villalba model.  He’s an amazing builder with a true artists eye for detail.  Your making quick progress of that gangly bird!

The picture you've posted is JM. Villalba's Tamiya 1/48 Storch. Here's a link:

It's about 1/2 way down the page.

Don't kid yourself Steve, you're doing just fine!! My shakey hands are no excuse for my mediocre work. I'm just not as patient nor as talented as you and many who post here.

Oops, looks like Chad beat me to it.

48 scale! OMG! That's amazing! Well I'm going to see if I can find some 1/35 scale carburetors and linkages. In a moment of genius or insanity I removed the ignition wires, and started replacing them with a thicker wire.

Yes, I am. I thought if Hobby Boss went to so much trouble to detail the engine I might as well show the whole thing.

Littletimmy, it could have also been the Lunesta I took earlier as well LOL.

By the way, I can't find any carburetors in 1/35 so I'm just going to have to wing it. Both the good and bad of detailing an engine like this is 99% of the people looking at it don't have a clue what is supposed to be there, all the while looking at multiple pictures of engines, neither do I. I started out my young working career as an aircraft mechanic so I can surmise what goes where, but without pictures at every angle I don't know exactly where hoses terminate, so I'm makeing it up as I go along.

Coming along nicely, Steve. You're attention to the extra bits is going to pay off in a steller work of art.

Thanks BK.

I replaced the ignition wires with thicker wire. I also found a placard on the internet and added it for a little extra detail.

I'm going to print out the Argus symbol and cut out the circle part. It goes on the front of the engine.

I also started on the wings and filled the joins

Placard looks like the real thing! Great job on the wiring and the engine in general.

Thanks Mike,

I added all the little bits to the wings. Once everything dries I'll spray a little more light blue (RLM-76) to the underside. Once that's done I'll spray the sand yellow and camo on the wings and finish installing the slats and flaps. The kit's wings look like they were designed to be removed for transport which is fantastic, so I'll finish them up before moving on to the fuse. The huge canopy comes with masks which is also fantastic. So far this has been a great and enjoyable build.

I applied the masks. Some didn't fit exactly right and had to either be trimed or added to, but ther were a lot easer than making my own.

That is looking really good, Steve. I would love to add this one to the stash, but alas, I need to build what I have. It will take years to go through what I already have, I don't need anymore.

Thanks Chad and BK,

I ordered two sets of RB Productions seat belts to dress up the interior. I'll start on the base sand color tomorrow.

I applied the sand color. I'm waiting for the belts to come in before I attach the canopy and complete the fuse, then I'll add the green and red camo.

I am leaving for Boise on the 15th for 2 weeks. If I get the belts in before then I'll put them together and install them. I'll be back on Aug 1st and get back to this.

It's looking good, have you used the RB belts before?

Thanks Clint,

I have not used RB belts but used HGW belts before. Quite the challenge those, but they look great once assembled.

I installed the slats, ailerons and flaps. They're almost as tricky as assembling a biplane.

Looking great! I just started the Tamiya kit of this subject. I must confess I don't know much about it either, other than it it didn't require much of a runaway, almost helicopter-like. Indeed JW Villalba's is in a class by itself. I could only hope to be at that level someday. ....I'm glad your feeling better bud.
