Joe - A muy excellent job on the cockpit. Really Nice. As far as slipping in some PE goes, I guess we'll just have to take your birthday away. Looking forward to Joseph's endeavors. How about some pics of you all working together?

Bish - Being in the same boat as you as far as GB overcommittment, I'm here to lend you some encouragement. Take your time and give us your best.

In staying with the spirit of this GB I would like to encourage folks to share what skills, techniques and materials you are utilizing now as opposed to when you first built the kit. How much has your modeling skills advanced since first starting in the hobby. What attracted you to this particular kit when you first built it? A little of your modeling history if you will.

Dude where do I begin????? When I first started I didn't have anything but just some basic paints, model glue, paint brushes and I think that is about it. Spray cans didn't start entering the pictures until about 2 years into building models. Thinner???? My dad is an automotive mechanic so I always had a constant supply of gasoline, which was my thinner. When I first built this kit it was molded in the same color(blue and black). The upper surfaces weren't painted at all and the bottom got a coat of some sort of grey thinned with gasonline. The interior was painted with some craft paint my aunt had which was water based and labelled apple green. It was a no frills fun build back then and I enjoyed every minute of creating what I was reading about.

Frog 1/72 P-47D - Update

No update Sad , but I think I'll start by re-scribing it in front of the TV. Man, how I hate re-scribing. I'll probably make a start after Christmas  I think. The schedule looks a bit busy this side of the New Year.

This was my first aircraft model. I think I mentioned before that my first car model was the Monogram 1/32 1966 Mustang GT-350. I'm reprising it for the Monogram Mafia II GB, I figured there might not be any harm in also showing it here. Is that OK ?

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Cheers Joe.

I nearly started the T-Bolt last night, but then the iron hand of self discipline took hold and I picked up the F4U I've been doing. Indifferent

Here's where I got to with the 'Stang. The body is painted. Everything else is ready for paint, and I stripped the too bright chrome off it in preparation for some Alclad.

Cheers

Tony

Hey There Gang, My 1/72 Revell  Saab Draken arrived the other day. Upon inpection it came to my attention that this is not a repop of the original kit I built some 40 yrs ago. The give away was the recessed panel lines. Upon further investigation it appears that this kit is a repop of a Hasegawa kit. Given that I have yet to find one the original kit I built I was hoping that it might still be OK to build this one. I will continue to search for the original 60's kit.

Also, can I get a ruling on precut canopy masks?

I know original kits that old are very hard to get hold of, i was very lucky. I don't see a problem with getting as close as you can. I don't have a problem with the masks either.

I'll second that motion on both counts. Some kits you just can't get ahold of anymore unless you pay half of your life savings if and when you find it.  Pre cut masks I really don't have a problem with either. It's a shame I can't find any for the one Joseph and I are building. Well.....looks like we are in with the frosted Scotch tape!  Have a great day you guys.

And Joseph says and I quote, "Have a good day" as well.

Ok, I'm in.

As I said in the feeler, I will do a 1/72 SR71, since it was the first model my dad built for me (no idea what the first one I built was!) I will have to see what I can find to fit the bill. Seeing how that was in 1990-ish, it was probably a Revellogram. Now I think the trick will be how to get another model without the Wife noticing....

What is the end date? I must have missed that. I will be a couple months, but it looks like my spring schedule just opened up.

Thanks, Budd

End date is the 1st June. I didn't realise Revellogram did a Blackbird. Might be a bit of a search to find that one.

I cant seem to find Revells color chart for my instructions....   what color is A and B and C..D, E,H,J?  I searched the net and the box.  I see the colors are posted on the box, but only to show which colors to use.  Theres no matching chart...  Hmm

I will see if i can dig out one of my Revell kits and see if thats any use. I just realised your not on the roster. Is this a 72nd revell kit, and it is an SR-71, right?

And i just realised, the A,B,C,D etc refer to where certain colours go on that model. So the letters don't refer to colours from their range. The guide is normally on another part of the instructions to the painting & decaling guide. So if thast missing, you would need someone with the same instructions.

Unfortunatly, the revell site doesn't show the instructions for this kit.

Well, when I got home I opened the second kit in my stash to see if I was missing some instructions.  Both boxes do not have paint ummm...  which color goes where chart.  Tongue Tied

Ok, thats odd. What about a colour chart from a different SR-71 kit. I have an Italeri, but theres no way i can get to it. Maybe someone else could send scan and send you some.

Thanks for the offer.  Honestly after some of my postings I was asking myself why?....I just gonna get refence material (walk arounds and such) and make it closer to scale anyways. =]  Within the rules of course.  Thanks for the help.

Hey everyone. I'm going to have to wait until the 1st of the month to get my P 38. So, I still don't know which kit its going to be. Probably a cheap one lol.
