i have never primed with black. going to have to give it a burl. working on more elevation mechanism parts. trying to be time efficient but still doing a lot of filling just in case.i think i will paint the entire interior PANZER GRAY even though the outside is DARK YELLOW. it's strange having parts bigger than what is shown in the instructions.

it looks like it chambers out at the muzzle to .25cal and i have friends telling me i could make it fire..
Wayne you probably know I prime in black almost all the time, and I use Army Painter primers. Its sold by mostly gaming companies but I won't use anything else. It dries in minutes, goes on perfectly out of a can and the finish is even and smooth. Thats what I look for in a primer, besides it fills in all those little nooks that you may miss while spraying. There is some overspray of a fine dust so I do it outside when possible. Try a can, they make a lot of colors and you'll be hooked.
A 24" inch barrel…..I never would have thought that in modeling, now thats going to be a real showpiece.
my ACE HARDWARE NOW gray and no doubt the black primer does that too. i have a special cardboard box just for that when i spray inside but also tend to use the garage.
INRE last post, i did clean off a station and pulled out DD that has to be done by mid June. looks better than i thought given it will be cased on a shelf so not going to have contest scrutiny. no excuse for building poorly but it does mean some little boggers won't be seen.
got 12 powder bags painted gray white and 12 canisters german gray. when they dry will paint black rounds and brass end casings. (ran out of clips). also painted ammo cart german gray instead of yellow for some contrast. here is the elevation mechanism set together. going to be a lot of individual priming and painting. ig it looks a little rough remember 1. i will clean it up some more, 2. all of this inside the carriage won't be seen, especially down in travel mode and 3. i'm assuming they would leave the inside gray to conserve paint. pity as this is a pin wash dream.
ON A SIDE NOTE. vallejo paints nicely but i find, even after cleaning, if i let the airbrush sit for a couple of days it gets stiff. had to field strip mine today. easy enough to run anything like water though it each day to prevent that.

Looks great Wayne...interesting that you point out the Vallejo comment WRT your airbrush...I too notice that exact same thing. I use Vallejo cleaner, but, I don't think it gets through the system enough. I've broken down my AB tons since I started going between different brands of paint.

Would a AGM-109 Tomahawk Cruise missile be a consideration for this GB? I found a 1/48 scale resin model, and thought it would be cool.
I missed a couple GB dates, so I'm tentative to commit to another. Although this Tomahawk and the V2 should be quick simple builds.
Waynec, I'm at a loss for words at the size of the model. I could not imagine what the original would look like in real life!

Geez Theuns...I had to look that M-388 up!! What a weapon...OMG, did this thing actually ever enter service??? LOL...imagine being 'that' crew!! Cool to mock one up, what scale would you do it in?
I saw a tv show on it yesterday and that gave me the idea. I have no idea what the scale would be, will have to work it back from the 1/72 bomb I can modify....maybe between 1/35 and 1/48 ....
The stand for the recoil less gun will have to be made from pieces of sprue. strangely there seem to have been a few different designs. I don;t know why they even had a sight on this thing, it was so badly in-acurate and the range was only about a mile, you could just aswell point it in the general direction and shoot it out the hip!
Maybe after I get the scale I will see if I can get the same size Willys Jeep, they were also mounted on that, it will atleast be less bland that way :-)

Maybe, I have not even started looking for a Jeep yet.....first need to get the budget for models up again. As for the Davy, I have made the bomb ans started working on the gun, I will call it 1/35.
(EDIT) I found a 1/35 M-151A2 Ford Mutt on the web , since it was in service between the 60's abd 80's and the M-388 was withdrawn in 1971, it stands to reason it might have been mounted on there...

Here is the basic components, the low yield 0,1 Kilo ton warhead and the recoil less rifle tube.

ammo and i have a 4th box.the rounds are split between smooth (for normal barrels) and ribbed (for deep rifled barrels). i have a set out so i can use it for a mold to cast more if needed. i can use the smooth and put the ribbed on a pallet under a tarp.the rounds are painted Vallejo metallic black which i will tone down a bit with some pastels. there were large and small powder charge bags (all are the same here). i will wash them to highlight the detail. the brass is the end piece and the minimum charge. the gray canisters i think can hold the powder bags which would make sense. a max range on the ammo cart would be the projectile, 2 large and 1 small powder bag and the brass end piece.
like the couplers, now you know more about K-5 ammo than you will ever need.

Gotta get some photos up for you guys since I am making decent progress on the Soviet supergun now. Nice kit, it's easy to build it up in a series of sub-assemblies (aka the gun itself, the cradle, the tracks), I just hope they all fit together when done!

I used my 1/72 Locomotive (that I dropped on the floor) as a reference for scale so "about" 15" tall will give a dramatic effect with the entire board at 48X20. With those in place I feel the scale is correct, but no doubt i'll be doing some things on the fly. Carving such a big section(s) turned out to be more difficult that I thought. It's like a canvas where you have a photo in mind and carve down to it, but the trick is making it look real and majestic. I've done some smaller rocks and boulders before but nothing like this. I use a long flexible kitchen knife and a disposable xacto knife to make the cuts and right now i'm installing the portal. Terry
