Weekend GB 2019-See you in November!
Posted by lewbud on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 2:11 AM

IIIITTTT'SSSS BAAAAAACK!  You know it, you love it and you've been waiting all year for it. The 2019 edition of the rootenest, tootenest group build will be soon upon us.  For those just tuning in, the Weekend GB is probably the shortest, most fun GB around. I don't six months or a year, heck, I don't even want six days. All I want is 48 hours of your time from start to finish. If you start at 1700 on Friday, you have until 1700 on Sunday to finish. The object here is to blow out the cobwebs of stagnation and actually finish something (a radical idea, I know). What are the rules of this group build of awesomeness your Grand Poobahness? The rules are simple:

1. All models must be 100% unstarted. A proof of unstartedness photo with date and time is a requirement. You may fondle and sniff the plastic, but that is all.  All scales, eras, genres, and crossovers are welcome.

2. Have fun.

3. You have 48 hours, no more. If you start at 1700 Friday, you've got until 1700 on Sunday to finish.

4. Have fun.

5. Post pics, lots of pics. We need something to look at while waiting for our paint to dry or while contemplating one's navel.

6. Have fun.

7. Start date is Thursday 28 November, 2019.  But that's Thanksgiving, you say. Yes, it is, and for most of us here in the States, it's also a three to four day weekend. For the rest of the world, it's as good a day as any to start. This GB normally peters out around Christmas, so you have some time. Also, weekend is a subjective term. If your days off are during the week, jump on in.

Secrets of success.

Here's where I would recommend that you pick something that you can actually finish in 48 hours. I wouldn't recommend that you pick the latest 5000 piece HaseTamiDragon kit, but what do I know (I once tried to build 3 1/72 aircraft in one weekend and failed miserably). If you think that you can pull it off in 48 hours, dig in, post pics, and the rest of us will be rooting for you.  I realize that all group build moderators want you to have fun (why else would you do it), but this is designed to get you to finish something and have fun while doing it. It may not win a contest (although some have), but it will be out of your stash and onto your display shelf (and may impress some when you tell them you built it in 48 hours).  Who's ready to become a modelling legend?

I should be in the new house and ...somewhat settled in by then...COUNT ME IN!!!!

Not sure what I'll build.  Worse case, I still have about 15 Bandai Star Wars kits I could pick from.  Might have to pick something up at Modelpalooza Whistling.  Just sayin'.  LOL!

But put me in coach!

I'm in.  Can't let this one pass me by.  Got a few kits in mind.  I will choose closer to the date.

Thanks Lew for hosting this one.  I always look forward to it.  The most frustrating, frantic and insane but fun and rewarding 48 hours spent at the bench.  I encourage anyone to give this one a shot.  Visit the past years threads and see what can be done with a little planning and even less sleep.  There was a record number of participants last year.  I hope we can beat it.

Welcome aboard gentleman (and I use that term very loosely)! The roster is updated and it seems we're in for some modelling mayhem this year.  Anybody seen Modelcrazy?

He's around.  He's been posting in the IDF build.  Probably hasn't seen your post yet.

Buddy,

I'm in. Been doing USN aircraft the last couple. Gull Gray/ White.

Hasegawa F-8E in 1/72. Actually have a small shelf of the stuff from past Turkey Shoots.

Can't see diddly in the cockpit.

Do we have a new Calvin badge?

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Welcome aboard G! Wouldn't be the same without you. As for the Calvin Badge, we're going to need a new one, as I don't have a computer or the skills to pull it off yet. Open to suggestions, retreads are welcome.

I can't pass up a WE GB.  It seems my best models come from these.  I don't know what to build yet and will look through the stash this weekend.

With all the PE and additions I have for it, it'll take me around 1000 hours to complete it.

I was even crazy enough to get the Jack Stays set.

Welcome aboard Modelcrazy, mawright20, GermanArmour, freem, and Scottrc. Steve, I'm a little disappointed in you for getting our hopes up with the Akagi and then taking the easy way out with the Zero.Whistling

That's why Eduard created canopy masks. I'm betting Steve will have a couple on hand. I know I will if I build an airplane.

Ernest,

Welcome aboard! The ship's roster is updated.  Has it really been a year since you've built a model?

Thanks for adding me to the roster Lew!

Actually I've completed 4 models this year, all AC.  Just built for myself, not for the forums.  Didn't even take photos...I should probably update my signature!
