Scorpiomikey

So do you want me to add those builds to the list?

Hope all you dads had a great fathers day, and all those with dads made an effort.

Me and my partner cooked my dad Chicken Cabonara for dinner, then apple pie and custard for desert.

If you mean the italian dish is carbonara Hmm

Nice work on the spit Lewbud

Jafa BV 141 was one of first planes i read the history when i was child; a comic named "braccio di ferro" (italian name of popeye) had a little airplane history section Big Smile and the strange concept of this plane captured me, waiting for the wip of it Yes

Vance the fw-189 is again on my whislist Crying but don't think to buy the one from airfix Whistling

Probably i'll finish the scout with more evergreen plastic than airfix plastic Big Smile last night worked on the upper canopy to reduce the one or more millimeter gap between the nose and the windshield, also saneded the whole canopy to reduce thickness Stick out tongue

more progress soon , i want to finish it asap

I had a quick look at the BV, not too bad but there is a few issuses on the sprue....

all the major components are well attached....

ahhh well sanding time I guess.

The cockpit glazing is hugely thick, I have never tried sanding canopies before now, but I think I need to learn that skill.

the BV141 will have to wait for just a while longer. I will do the Hurricane next I think.

pieces are sure attached to sprues there Whistling

for the canopy you can try some heatforming on it, i used recently on my ka-18

the result is not bad and surely more clear than original

just need a recicled clear plastic sheet, a candle and lots of patience Wink

Okay - not very exciting by anyone's standards but used my airbrush with paint for the first time and primed my model. I can't tell if I did a good job though as the Vallejo primer is the exact colour of the sprue. Confused

I'll give it some time to dry and go check it out under some better light. Idea

Good plan, griff, let us know how you get on.

The first use of an airbrush is an auspicious moment in a modellers life. Congratulations, i think im the only one left here without an airbrush lol.

Thanks your battleshipness.  I started obsessing over the wing roots, then I remembered this was to be a low key, low stress don't worry as long as it looks like a Spit build.  Sanded the seams and primered the fuselage (that blue is a little tough to cover).  Masked off the canopy, really missed having a pre-cut canopy mask, and shot the frames with Brit interior green, then reprimered.  Shot the undersides with Model Master Sky.  Will let that dry overnight and plan on shooting the dark earth tomorrow evening. Griff, congrats on the airbrush.  I have a love/hate relationship with mine and it's only a Badger 250.  Scorpiomikey, I wouldn't sweat the not having an airbrush too much.  Most of the common colors are available in spray cans.  If US Interior Green was available in spray cans, I probably wouldn't even bother with the airbrush.  More pics soon.

Congratulations on breaking into the airbrush club! same colour as the sprue?? Big Smile Figures, just have a look under some good light, you should be able to see the difference in the shiny plastic vs dull primer.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

It "looks" like the primer got 99% of everything so I'm ready to start getting ready for paint.

I have a couple questions:

What Vallejo paint makes a decent "Cockpit Green?" and what colour should I paint the bottom of my Spitfire? The box says "Beige Green (Sky)" and the closest I could find in Vallejo is "Pastel Green."

Its a colour comonly refered to as Sky type S. Tamiya does it with XF-21 Sky. Its fairly close.

Not sure about Vallejo as we dont get that here.

Having test fitted the spit I find its not too bad, and the Hurricane looks as good. but does any one know a Tamiya or Humbrol colour suitable for the cockpits? I can't find Model Master paints here and these are my first british aircraft in 40 years.....

Hoping someone can help,

Thanks

Griffen and Jafa:

The author of this little piece has some insights on RAF colours, including variants used as substitutes for Sky when the British were in transition between June and July 1940.

Generally speaking Tamiya's Sky (XF21) is a bit too green. Lighten it up a bit to make it look better. Out of the bottle in 72nd it's closer to a Sky variant called Eau de Nil. It also looks pretty good as the interior green used by Supermarine in Spitfires and Seafires, which is not the same as Britsh Interior Green. BIG being a bit darker and with more grey. Search on britmodeller.com and you should find a recommendation for a Vallejo match to Sky. Tim

On the bench (all 72nd):

  • 7 Spitfires & Seafires
  • Wellington III
  • N-9H Navy Jenny

Thanks for the suggestions. I downloaded the Vallejo Equivalency Guide from their website and they have pretty exhaustive charts for all of the colour ranges.

I've got a few of the colours, am close on most of the others but I need a "Cockpit Green." Oh well - I guess I'll have to stop at the LHS on Saturday. Wink

Never pass up the opportunity to go to the model shop.

Started on the walrus. I can tell already shes going to fight me. Shell be straight OOB, despite what shes lacking, i didnt feel it deserved any AM considering what i paid for it. Maybe next time.

Although in saying that, if i can find any im going to replace the guns. The kit ones look like they've been chewed on by a 32 scale dog lol.

I got my Flightpath Sea Harrier FRS1 upgrade set in the post today. Very nice!

5 sheets of beautifully detailed brass PE, some lovely resin wheels and AIM Sidewinder missiles, film for the IP and 3 bags of cast white metal. A lot of the ejector seat and landing gear is to replaced with this.

This drool-worthy stuff! Yes

Cheers

On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa

Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard

Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell

God doesn't hate you, in fact quite the opposite, but there's a list out there of "real" modelers.

TSR2 ehh?

I want to see that one.

I started mine the other night too, must admit, yours looks better than mine, Its a frighteningly bad fit to the fuselage alone. I got home this afternoon and promptly went over to a hasegawa b-26 lol, so much nicer.

The canopy is a fairly decent fit,but will need a bit of extra attention as well.

I used liquid cement and only glued an inch or two at a time, carefully lining up the fuselage halves. It'll still need some filling and sanding, but it's not as bad as I first thought.I might have to trim the rudder a bit.

Wet sand with some mega high grit paper. i got a pack from spruebrothers which had 10000-50000 grit in it (i think) Wetsanding with that gets a high polish, you can then clear coat with future. Looking at what youve got i can still see sanding scratches in the clear bits.

Also grab a nail polishing stick, the faces on that are good for polishing clear bits.

10000-50000? this is not mega grit, is supernatural grit Tongue Tied.. the finest sandpaper i see till now is about 1000 and have the grain like the normal paper. Probably there used another scale to compare the grain size. I don't use future ,s not so famous in italy Sad

the main problem are the iside side , hard to reach with sandpaper. Actually two option i see

1) unglue the pieces and replace at least the bigger (..) parts with clear plastic sheet

2) try another desanding session and use more clear coat, the warning is to erase all fuselage deatails...

need to try something.
