I'm not on the roster yet.  I'm building a 1/48 Revell P-40b and my daughter is building a 1/72 Academy P-40b.

RRB: It's not a problem! Maybe you could just check the forum twice a week or so? Things aren't moving that fast here.

RRB, I'm down for a P40C but I left it Minnesota. Just bought an Academy P-36 Hawk (which I could do in French colors). Not a P-40, but we're kind of talking William Pitt, or Helmut Moltke or Pliny - The Elder. What do you think? We getting tired of olive drab?

Thanks Pzl66, other than the fuselage plugs she's been an enjoyable build so far.

Eric: Hopefully the RRB will be back around soon. As he said he's been having some problems with the new format. The P-36 sounds pretty cool to me if he allows it.

I started painting the camo.  I got the tan on and masked it for the dark green.  But Isaac was close enough to make it a bit too wet and windy to finish the painting.  Hopefully it will be dry enough this weekend to go out and spray the green.

My daughter has not had a chance to work on hers since our last update.  She still needs to mask the bottom so I can spray the top.

I finally got the box open and some parts off the sprue, LOL!  Big Smile

This is my sixth build, fifth plane.  It's my first three-color camo paint job, and it is my first Hasegawa build.  (Don't like the tail plug deal already, but am moving forward with an open mind.)   All my previous aircraft have been Revell kits.  After lawdog114's beautiful build, all I can say is, I'm going to do my darnedest to not totally embarrass myself ... Embarrassed

I've been following along - there must be several of you build-mates about to enter 'completed' status.  Looking forward to seeing more of all your great work.

Gamera - I'm digging the 'alternative' P-40 nose art ... not that I've anything against the old shark mouth, LOL!

Flight deck:  Hasegawa 1:48 P-40E; Tamiya 1:48 A6M2 N Type 2 ('Rufe')

Ordie: Thanks, yeah about the only thing that beats a shark mouth is a pretty gal in her birthday suit!

I think you'll like the Hasegawa kit, other than the plugs (which I may have screwed up myself) the kit went together great. I added some PE to mine but frankly the cockpit looks good enough that it doesn't really need it all that much.

DJF - I'll agree, great work!  And I, also, detect a creative soul at work in your daughter's camo pattern.

Thanks for all of the comments!  Yes, my daughter is a very creative soul.  She is having so much fun.

Her birthday was yesterday and her Grandpa and cousins will be in town this week, so it looks like we will not get much done.  I did get the decals on mine, but she has been a little distracted.  Apparently turning 8 is a big deal.  Whistling

Well, here's the cockpit at this point.  It's only my second cockpit with any detail in it.  It's been painted and sludge washed.  The only things left are to mount the gunsight and slop more softener on the instrument panel decals, which still aren't laying completely down in the raised detail, as you can see.  The PE seatbelts I used were my first PE bits ever, and I'm not anxious to do any more of it any time soon.  Talk about a PITA.  The molded detail in the floor and sidewalls were fun to paint, however, so I'm not down on the build by any means.  I know it's not the best, but, hey ...

A little wet tissue here and there, and my Hasegawa P-40E is ready for paint.  I had some trouble with steps along the fuse plug and the turtleback plug seams, as you can see, which required some filling and sanding.  Other than that, though, I am enjoying the build.  It's my first non-Revell kit, and the fit (other than the plugs) is great.  I closed the cockpit, as you can also see.  The paint scheme is going to be the one of the two provided for in the kit's decals.  It will depict the P-40E assigned to Major E.F. Rector, USAAC, In China in July of 1942, shortly after the US Army took control of the AVG squadrons there.

More when I have it!  Smile

So yea I actually started my Academy P-40. Its the most plain kit I've ever seen. I dont think a beginner modeler could screw up adding more detail to the cockpit. For me, Im leaving everything as is, I need to get a kit complete on the shelf to get my motivation moving again. I'm actually building two P-40s, I bought another Academy kit for someone else to build but that isnt happening so I have two. I'll get pictures as soon as I can, but they really wont be of much. I'm already looking for a Hasegawa kit.

Your P-40 cockpit looks fine Ordie. I liked the Hasegawa kit too when I built it, although it's by no means a 'shake and bake'. Mine had an RAAF scheme from the Western Desert.

I have already promised an Academy P-40 for this GB, but since I'm also building an Airfix 1/72 P-40B for the Pearl Harbour GB, I might as well cross it over into this GB too. Please add it to the register.

Cheers

OO: Hey she's lookin' good there! Now just to slap some paint on 'er!

RRB: Wow, hadn't seen you in forever, other than the problems with the forum I hope everything is alright with you.

I finished my P-40.

My daughter finished painting, now she just needs to put the decals on and glue the wheels and canopy on.  I'll have pictures of it when she is done.

I pretty much finished up a while ago....not my greatest effort ever, breaking one main gear leg a couple of times and cracking one of the back windows trying to install it. Sometimes you just have to know when to move on...

MJames: She looks good to me!  Know what you mean about the gear legs, I'm breaking them all the time on 1/48th planes, 1/72nd must be awful.

Still great job!
