Zokissima:

Don't worry about what people say...after some dust and weathering...nobody can tell what desert sand color really is.

Ok I decided to use the rubber band tracks that came with the kit and I'm not too sure how much I like it :(

I put the side skirts on and I think it is too late to change tracks :(

How much track slack is there supposed to be in the Abrams?

okay, where can I get an AM set of rubber-band tracks for the m1??? (if they exist Big Smile [:D]) I spent over an hour working on the tracks for the 1/72 revell I just finished last night, and I hated it!!!!! those semi-indys are a pain!!!!

Dah-gummit

I'm going to find a way to tighten my rubber bands. I may have to dremel slice a wheel off and slide it back to create more tension, but I have another idea to test first ......

I'll try to put some pics up. So far I am happy with the Hobby Craft kit. Its the trumpeter kit reboxed :P

Hey that looks really good!!!! It is hard to see the indy links in the pic but it appears straight. Was there a problem with them or did they just take too long to assemble? I have adjusted to indy links with the last few models that I have built... so my M1 seems odd to me with the rubber bandy thingies... Whistling [:-^]

I did not know that you could paint pepto? Was it sprayed or brushed? Clown [:o)]
Looks awesome, and 1/72 would make a great keychain Evil [}:)] or car dashboard item !!

the tracks had major problems the drive wheel did not line up with the road wheels, and it was a big pain.

Can't say I've seen anything like that Chris. Definately an eye catcher. Looks cool.

Thanks for the paint tips guys. Hope to get some work done this week.

here's my progress so far on the Hobby Craft (trumpeter) kit. suggestions are always welcome (that is the point of a group build anyway, right?)

The kit is pretty straight forward. I keep looking ahead to the part where I am supposed to build the mine plow. The kit comes with chain, tubing, wire, mesh, and I hope it comes out good because it the contents look promising Smile [:)]

I'm still at it. I'm disappointed with the fit of the turret. It's like it shrunk a bit or something, I had to putty up the front of it where the barrel slides between. This is one kit they really need to update.

No Dwight, Tamiya's M1A1. I saw the other thread about "bad fit".

Does the Tamiya M1A1 also have a bad fit?

Yes, that is the one I'm working on. The turret just doesn't mate well. Unusual for a Tamiya kit.

Unusual, indeed. I wonder if it is also true with the Tamiya M1A2.

Looks good so far Muzzleflash. Watch the fit of the storage compartments and bustle rack on the turret, as that's what I had the most trouble with on the kit.
What'd you decide to paint it with?

Chris:
i don't know about AM rubber-band trax 4 the m1...
i think the Dragon 1/72 abrams kits have rubber band trax instead of link & length
so u could get their m1a1 or a2 & just nick the trax if u really want rubber bands...
BTW, the splintered barney pattern looks great...
tiny suggestion re: pix:
lite background 4 dark vehicles & vice versa helps a lot
as 4 the last one, i think an m1 w/ a quad 50 or huge artillery gun will look...
awesome ! Big Smile [:D]

muzzleflash:
ur m1 is looking fine so far...
i think the m1 is a bit 2 big 4 a keychain, even in 1/72 Big Smile [:D]
(now my 1/76 hetzer, that would make a nice keychain alrite...)

tigerman:
sorry 2 hear about ur battle w/ the turret... can't believe it, w/ a tamiya kit !
persistence will overcome resistance, i'm sure.
keep on it !
