Hi, Guys,

My apologies for not posting lately but for some reason my subscription to this thread keeps getting deleted. This is the second time and it's only this thread that's doing it. I thought things seemed awfully quiet and decided to check in.

I'll do some catching up now.

Cheers,

Russ

That is odd Russ.  I thought is was strange that we had not heard from you here.  Huh?

Hi Everyone!

A little more progress on the Hoosier Hotshot's front instrument panel.  More lettering detail:

Thank you Cliff for the compliments!  It is tedious work but it is worth it for my friend.  I can't wait for him to see it next Friday.

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I tried out that new paint brush.  I really like it.  I painted some of the red panels on the Hoosier Hotshot's front instrument panel.  I just hate painting with flat colors, they dry so fast.  And with this super small brush, the paint almost dries before I can get it to the surface I am painting.  I will have to go back and touch up with the flat black.  But here is how it looks tonight:

Funny you mentioned about the VW Jim. I had one too many years ago and winter was hell on it for some reason. Many times I had a buddy pull me around while I kept it in 2nd. gear with the clutch in and then dumping it until she started.

Ken, that panel is fantastic; your friend is sure to be impressed. I certainly am!

I am currently working on the "new" ejection seat.  I will post pictures in a while.

Say Mike, what did you find out about your ankle?

Hey Ken, the Doc said the ankle is healing, albeit slowly. He thinks most of the pain is from regeneration of nerve tissue and not an underlying infection which is very good news if true. He doesn't recommend surgery or IV antibiotics but did prescribe some heavy-duty pill ones. He refilled my pain medication which I was trying to avoid doing only because of the danger of long term narcotic use; tolerance increase, needing more to have the same effect, etc., etc. I've never had an issue with anything like that in the past, i.e., abuse, but my buddy got hooked on them years ago and I do not want that monkey on my back. However as he said, it's pretty much the only way to allow me to do day to day stuff without being miserable. It should only be another 3 weeks or so and the pain should lessen considerably. In the meantime I did start pre-shading my airplane so I'm looking forward to how it's going to turn out. Will have some pics up soon.

Well that is good news to hear Mike!  I hope it heals up soon.

By the way, I am looking forward to seeing those pictures.

Hi Everyone,

More progress on the Hoosier Hotshot.  Tonight I painted the seatbelts on the ejection seat.  The paint is still wet so I will take pictures tomorrow night and post them then.

By the way, I just wanted to say that I AM FREAKIN TIRED OF COLD AND SNOW!!!!  After 2.5 inches dumped on us last Friday, we had another 1.5 last night.  And now they are predicting 2 to 4 inches tomorrow!

I am so tired of cleaning my driveway and sidewalks.  Then of course I have to clean my Mom's as well.

The weathermen were predicting that it was going to warm up tomorrow.  But now that has changed.  It is now only supposed to get up to 31 degrees.  (Which actually is a HEAT WAVE compared to the temperatures we have been dealing with!)  And they were predicting it to get up to above 65 degrees towards the end of this week.  But now that has changed.  Now they are saying only 50 degrees on Thursday.  But the way it is going, I will believe THAT when I see it!

I am going to just start using a "weather rock".  It is much more reliable that any weatherman!  You just take a rock and suspend it from a tripod.  Here are the instructions:

  • If the rock is wet, it's raining.
  • If the rock is swinging, the wind is blowing.
  • If the rock casts a shadow, the sun is shining.
  • If the rock does not cast a shadow and is not wet, the sky is cloudy.
  • If the rock is not visible, it is foggy.
  • If the rock is white, it is snowing.
  • If the rock is coated with ice, there is a frost.
  • If the ice is thick, it's a heavy frost.
  • If the rock is bouncing, there is an earthquake.
  • If the rock is under water, there is a flood.
  • If the rock is warm, it is sunny.
  • If the rock is missing, there was a tornado.
  • If the rock is wet and swinging violently, there is a hurricane.
  • If the rock has white splats on it, watch out for birds.

Mike: Good to hear things are looking somewhat better. Hopefully if there isn't any infection then your ankle should continue to improve.

Ken: The cockpit is going to look so good it's a shame to seal it up inside the plane!

Thank you for the compliments Cliff!  I will definitely build this with an open canopy.

Cliff, I was thinking the same thing about the Hotshot's cockpit. Maybe Ken could do a clear piece for the panel covering it; sort of a skeleton thing so to speak!

Yes the ankle is only getting better, I'm able to wear just about any shoes I want now and it only gets really bad when I'm walking a lot or standing for prolonged periods. Fortunately, much of my work is at a desk so I've got that going for me. It'll sure be nice to wake up and not have to wonder how bad it's going to be during the day!

We are currently enduring a heat wave here in Lafayette Indiana!  It got up to 47 degrees today!  I think the last time it was this warm was back early November!  I am sure they will discuss it on the news this evening.  I will let you know how good my memory is.

Really amazing work, Ken! Yes Yes Too bad they don't make those panels out of Lucite - you could add lighting to the instrument faces Smile.

Great job!

Gee, Mike, you've had to endure a lot of discomfort with that ankle! I sure hope you see some relief soon. Keep your chin up and hang in there, bud!

Thanks, Cliff. I'm still having problems - I had to re-subscribe again today. I'm beginning to suspect it's my security software - I do a daily virus san and it occasionally deletes some of my saved logins as well. I changed some options so maybe that will stop this problem.

Cheers,

Illuminating the dials is not that far fetched.  I have seen where at least one builder did just that.  I think it was on a 1/32 scale F-4 Phantom II.  He used fiber strands from a light source to the back of the instrument panel.  I will have to find it again and I will post it.

Wow, that is unbelievable! Talk about a labor of love! Now he needs the engines to spool up and produce an orange glow from the exhausts. Oh, and taxi lights too...Big Smile.

Just to add on: a pilot that moves the stick and fusses with the switches might be nice as well. Along with moveable flight controls, retractable landing gear and possibly AIM-9's that launch!

Totally agree with both Russ and Mike about that F-4E.  I think it would be awesome to add that detail to the one that Jim posted the video of with jet engines that flew.

Imagine a video of that!  You see a shot into the cockpit as it is taxiing down the ramp with the canopy open, then the canopy closes as it turns on to the runway, and blasts off!  Surprise

Hi Everyone!

A little more work on the F-84E "Hoosier Hotshot".  First, a little more detail added to the front instrument panel:

And next a little more detail added to the ejection seat:

Yeap, looks great Ken!

You should try to pick up one of those huge 1/12 cockpit kits sometime and detail it out!

Thank you Russ for the compliments!  Just a little more touch up then I will be done.  On the ejection seat, I will add a gloss clear coat to prep it for the wash.  I am going to test out the Flory wash that I just recently purchased.  I am looking forward to trying it out.
