thank you. i still think the homemade ones with model rr gravel and rails and stained basewood ties look better and in 1/72 don't have to worry about german rail mounts vs american spiked rails. at 1/35 that will be a concern.

tried to prime on tuesday in sub freezing temps. had to strip everything down. warmed up yesterday so everything is primed. may paint a bunch on the sprue and just clean it up. usually don't do that but some boat guys do.

picked up a 1/72 modern german 6x6 truck and found a KING TIGER in the stash. od course i have BR-52, K-5, and DORA in the stash as well as a KUBELWAGEN to show scale.

hey eagle90

don't know where you live but, if noise isn't a problem, check out HARBOR FREIGHT for an inexpensive compressor with tank and regulator. it is loud but my workshop is in the basement bunker, my hearing is already shot, and i'm home alone most of the day.

I'll do that tonight.  I too am in the basement.  And after 21 years in the Air Force working on F-15's and 16's, I'm surprised at what hearing I DO have! Smile.  Thanks for the tip and I'll be checking it out tonight.

Tell me about it. I only took a 5 year break staring in 2003, and the difference when i came back was huge. I was just getting into resin and PE before i left off.

All that stuff comes with time, but a good compressor and airbrush can make a world of difference.

I have some kits that have some PE and resin stuff with them.  Not sure if I'm ready for that just yet, but I was surprised to find some of the kits I had, already came with some.  As for the AB, after using it those couple of times before the compressor died really has me hooked! Stick out tongue

More and more kits are coming out with PE in them, or old kits haveing it added. And a few of my SH kits include resin. Though this tends to be more the smaller companies. But its always nice to get it. Its not that bad once you get used to it. With PE its sometimes about knowing what not to use.

After the nice easy start, things got a little complicated with the wings. The instructions have you trimming some off each end of the centre section. 3mm off the front and 10 at the back. I did this but it still didn't fit, more had to be trimmed off the front. Either i messed up or the instructions were wrong. This meant a large gap at the rear. I also had to file back some of the top wing so it would fit. The meant the leading edge of the wings don't line up with the mounts on the fuselage. So i still have some more filling and sanding to do.

On the plus side, the cockpit fitted in very nicely, and despite the problems, its not looking to bad.

If all goes well, i hope to have soem paint on by the end of the week.

Bish, from the look of the photos, you are managing to defeat the "issues."  Looking forward to seeing the paint going on.

Thankls mate, it took me the best part of the weekend to get to this stage. O the joys of these smaller companies. But i guess they can't all build themselves.

I'm lagging behind but finally starting to get the Hobbycraft CF-18 going

I'm not thrilled about the cockpit or the fit overall so far.

No pictures to speak of, not really photo worthy as of yet but I'm getting into gear now.

Have had to do the painting by hand since the compressor died!  Not terribly happy with the bottom colors, but it was a mix of my own.  I tried all the Tamiya paints that were supposed to be matches, but they didn't look right to me so I ventured a mix of my own.  The top color turned out well and I'm going to do some camo on them since I JUST bought a compressor about 20 minutes ago on eBay!!  YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!  Now I'll be dangerous! Stick out tongue

Anyway, here are a couple of progress pics.  My phone wouldn't get too much detail, but I did some light detail work in the cockpits, but the kits themselves didn't lend to much detail anyway.  I'm not wanting to do too much aftermarket stuff since I'm getting back into the groove of things and don't want to waste it with mistakes.  That and I've been put on a more harsh budget.......(I also JUST bought a Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper Mk VII!!!!!!!!!!! Oh come on,it was $22 with free shipping!  I couldn't pass that up!.....Right?!) Huh?

Question on 1/72 aftermarket stuff...BISH!!!!...The gun for the IL-10 is REALLY sad!  Would there be any aftermarket 1/72 guns out there? Just wondering.  Thanks everyone!

if WEM makes 1/350 scale .50cal HMG someone must make 1/72 machine guns. my locomotive is at the "this looks like crap, where's the trasg can?" stage which is before "wow everything came together."

Eagle, do you know what guns they carry. There are a couple of companies that make great metal gun barrels, i often use master and Aber do some as well. But Russian stuff seems rather limited. I will have a check when i get home tonight and see what i can find.

I hear ya!  I was not happy with the paint at first, but I think after a little weathering and final touches, it will turn out pretty good.  Getting back into the swing of things, I'm looking for a detailed, completely accurate build.  I want a very good representation thou!

Bish, I just looked it up and it appears it is a UBT 12.7 mm machine gun.  Now I can research that and see if I can find one out there.  It's a tiny little thing, but anything would look better than what comes with the kit.  I'll have to take a pic and post for everyone to get a good laugh!

Found a UBT gun "kit" for $9 (with shipping) from Mini World. That's more than I paid for the bloody plane! Anyone familiar with this company? It says it is a kit.......good night! Says it has metal and PE! Not sure if I'm ready for something this small. Anyone ever put one of these together or have any other suggestions for the gun? Thanks!

I just found the same one on Hannants for £4.99. I have never heard of them. I was going to suggest the possability of a .50 Cal barrel, but it doesn't look anything like it. Afraid i can't find any info on the Mini world gun either.

That's close to what I'd be paying here for it.  I guess that would be the going price then.  I had thought about the 50 cal too, but after seeing it on Wikipedia, no dice, not even close.....no lend lease there!

raw umber is your friend. i have been looking for a color for body frames on wheeled vehicles without just painting it rust. drive wheels are painted engine gray and i washed them with the raw umber.

woohoo another choochoo. hobbyboss just announced the 1/72 BR-86 locomotive.

this is done. all colors are MMA, the bottom is engine gray and the top is panzer gray and panzer redbrown. my first camo using silly putty masking with so so results but good lessons learned. this locomotive is based at the rr gun training center on the baltic sea inside germany (as the 12s were never stationed outside the country) hence the camo pattern. i lost one of the rear brackets so just added a couple of handles instead. weathering was done with tamiya powders.

railbed is from the kit but i think my homemade ones look better.

      and just goofing a bit

I like it a lot Wayne. I think I'm tempted to try one. How big is the model itself ?

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Nice work on the train wayne. A rail GB would be a nice idea.

Its been slow going but progress has been made. After a lot of chopping, filling and sanding, its finally ready for some paint.

The bomb aimers compartment only included his pad to lay on and bomb site. So I spruces it up a bit with some panels and PE levers and belts from the spares box.

I got the first got on last night and so should have the second on over the weekend, so hopefully some more pics early next week.

Bish. Excellent progress

Off subject. Does anyone know if there is either an aftermarket F-16 tail with the parabrake housing or a kit with it.  I have a bunch of special scheme European decals but all of the 16's have the extended housing. Thanks.  John

Nice work on the 262. That bombardier spot looks almost comfortable.

Finally getting some time to work on the Hornet.

The cockpit is done, and most assembly done.  Going to start putty and sanding soon.
