LOL! You bad boy! Hold your horses for a few more days there Theuns- the start date is this Friday. Pained interior is less than 50%. By that is some nice box art on that kit! Is that one of Aifix's new tooled offerings?

New indeed, and I am impressed with the detail of it. The wheel wells look very good with internal ribs ect, nice detailed cockpit (decal for pannel).

I suspect it is the standard Airfix 1/72 P-51D , but there is an aditional small sprue with the F-51 Prop , rockets and bombs.

I will be using the Fuersa Aerea Dominicana roundals, but not do the cammo one. I have a pix here of an all white FAD P-51 I think is rather interesting.

To build the F-51 as per box art the use the un-cuffed prop and black interior (Korean era) but for the FAD they specify interior green and the cuffed prop.

As I understand many P-51's were "smuggled" the Latyn America so I think they try to replicate a previuosly private Mustprang "sold" to the FAD.

Theuns, it sounds like a great build you will have there. Just curious, are the panel lines recessed? If so, it is one of the new tooled Airfix line.

Wayne...thank you for those words... ;-)

Ok, finally made up my mind. I'll be putting out an Argentine Curtiss Hawk 75-O, circa March '42.

Stick, yes totally new tool with engraved  detail, maybe a tad on the heavy side to some's taste but very good bang for your buck at about $10-00

I might also add a 1/72 Italeri F-4 Corsair in Urugaian scheeme later.

Cool. I like the Cuban Kingfisher. Will you use the Monogram 1/48 kit?

OK guys, in much of the world, it is already November 1st and the start time has begun. This is a rough draft for one of the GB badges (I will do a few) I would love to overlay some aviator wings and increase the size of the print, perhaps change the font style, but I only have Paint, not Photoshop, so if anyone can help???

That looks pretty darn good SP, I like it!!!  Wish I could help but I'm a modeler not an artist!

I pulled the Tamiya Corsair out and looked over the instructions. Looks like the typical Tamiya well engineered kit, should be pretty simple to assemble, the complex paint scheme should be the hard work. Going to be running a little slow here but hope to get some work done on the cockpit this weekend.

OK Wayne, I want it on that background and in a similar style, with the gold GB title above and the year marks below in red. I will PM you the basic image and see if I can come up with some suitable aviator wings to overlay.

Well today is November 1st, Dia de los Muertos, and the Latin American Aircraft Group Build is now in session. Yesterday I went and retrieved my F-20 from storage, and ordered some Aztec F-5 decals that I will be using on this build. Today I sat down to a few hours at the work bench on this an a couple of other products to get this GB going.

Here is the kit

and today I did whatever construction that I could without any painting:

guns installed into the nose after hollowing out the bores

rear fuselage halves glued together

centerline drop tank

cockpit components basic assembly completed

and all the basicly built stuff in one spot

tomorrow I will begin painting...

Hello friends, we started with the Cuban Kingfisher.

The kit is the Airfix, armed gave it to me, I will remove the paint and disarmament to get started again.

The arm and started to detail it a little, this re paneling, cokpit detail a bit and the gunner's station, cut it all loose.

The idea is to represent this plane.

Hope you like.

Paul

Nice work Stik and Bigua! You guys have come a long way already. Stik, that kit must have a somewhat lower parts count?

Bigua- Nice work on the small scale stuff.

SP: Looks like a pretty nice kit, same sort of models I started out building though I never built the F-20.

Paul: Cool, neat to see you redo an old kit like that! Sorry I have no idea about the colours though.

Paul, looking at those pictures, I would guess that it is is overall Sea Blue. But Dark Green is also a less likely possibility.

Cliff, you know that I am a diehard Monogram fan and Consigliarie of the Monogram Mafia on here Whistling I will never tire of building their kits. This one will be fun, since it is a "what if" and I can pretty much do whatever I please with it.

Todays update- I did an airbrushing session on this and a couple other builds that I have going right now. First a primer coat of Humbrol Primer, and then Humbrol Dark Gull Gray on cockpit components and areas that will be visible.

I will let this dry overnight before I start any detail work.

Bigua,

If you go to www.airliners.net and do a search under OS2U, you will find several pictures of a Cuban Kingfisher.  It looks to be a blue-gray, but not the USN Intermediate Blue.

Bish,

Put me down for something Guatemalan.  I have the Aztec decals somewhere in the stash, can do anything from an Avro 504k to a C-47.  Could do a P-51, but that's a little boring.  Maybe a Kansan or Expeditor, or P-26.  Don't know yet.  When I know, you'll know shortly thereafter.  Whatever it will be, will be in the divine scale of 1/72 of course.

Forgot I had their Juicy Jugs sheet as well so a P-47 might be in the mix as well.  Just went to their site, wish they'd get everything back in stock.  There could be a bunch of Airfix F-86's in my future if they bring that set back.

"Juicy Jugs"  Dang , how do I get into THAT GB !??  LOL.

The Mustprang with Humbrlo interior green, looks a tad dark to me but ah well.

I dirtied up the wheelwells and gear doors a bit to give a "well used" look to it.
