Hope things are going well with your F-20 SP. I added the landing gear to the Corsair last night and she's on her feet. Working with the landing gear doors now. Don't think I'm going to wire up the engine so it's pretty much done. Just need to paint the prop and the friggin' canopy (guess I shouldn't leave my most hated part till the end eh?)

LOL! I hear ya. Yess, I should be getting some more progress on my days off here this week. I need to dip my clear parts in Future and get them masked and glued in place before I move on to the camo. Unfortunately some of that will be delayed as some doofus made a left turn in front of me last night on my way home from work and my jeep is now wrecked. gonna be dealing with that for a bit here...

Ouch! Hope you're ok and not too much damage to your Jeep. Still I know what you mean about the whole hassle of the insurance and body shops.

I am not too bad off... no broken bones and just sore here and there... my jeep.... well if she if she can be repaired and is not totaled by insurance I will be quite surprised...

Thanks Tony. it was something of a jinxed day all day long for me. That was just the topper of an ending. But thankfully yes, my insurance is doing a great job ASAP so I am not worried there.

Yes, very glad you are ok. My friend Bill was driving home last Fall in his Sahara, same thing happened, but his Lab Casey was sitting in the front passenger w/o a restraint and went through the windshield. The dog survived, but it didn't need that at 15 years old.

If they total it, which is a real hassle- usually you can request a payout in cash less the scrap value of the car, and keep the Jeep. You won't be able to insure it or drive it, but if you go buy a new one you might be able to trade it in for more value than the scrap, or take off all your custom stuff at least and then scrap it.

And the scrap value is usually only a couple of hundred anyways.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Ouch, sorry to hear that, I was hoping it was just a fender bender, nice looking Jeep- shame to see her totaled. Still as the guys said at least you're just a little sore but otherwise ok.

Wow gang, I've been AWOL around here for multiple weeks, it would seem. Busy at the office & busy working through a Fiat CR.42 - DONE!!!  Just trying to get caught up in here now.

Gamera - Love the work on the interior of that COrsair, shaping up nicely. Gear doors - did the carpet monster ever surrender them to you? Love that 3-tone topside, definitely a little different! Did you overspray the whole thing? Looks toned down a little from the original photos.

stikpusher - Tigershark is looking good. How are the Aztec decals to work with?Loving the multi-coloured cam. Snake or Tiger? Accident? You're about the 4th person I know of that has had to deal with auto insurance in the past few weeks. Must be the time of year??

Roger Wilco - thanks for the info on those F86s… an interesting option for the future. And ANOTHER 1/144 kit here?? Man, people tell me I build in braille-scale! And multi-colour cam too - are you airbrushing that paint or hand-painting?

Johan T - SAAB JAS 39 - the Brazilians are lining up for a large order of those aren't they? Good news!  HOPING they go with a green & gray cam similar to the F-5 to avoid the gray-over-gray trap. That 2xGreen digital pattern looks amazing!

GM - what are you building? Good to see another multi-engine machine.

Glad to see you here Vance. Any more GBs on the way or are you too busy for now ?

I'm pretty keen to start my T-33 or F6F for this one, but it might depend on how I feel on the day as to which I build.

Paul - what decals and kit are you using for that Uruguayan OA-37 ? It's of interest to me too.

Cheers

Hi Vance,

Due to the small scale nature of my recent build,I hand paint them.I have a cheap Testors airbrush, but have never used it.I'd like to see your CR-42 build...Douglas

Hey Vance it is good to see you again. I too hope you post the CR-42 over in the aircraft forum (or did you and I missed it?) - I love Italian aircraft.

Thanks, I did overspray the Corsair with a little buff to blend things in but it was the coat of gloss that for some reason really dulled down the contrast. Not sure what happened but I like it so I'm not questioning it. I did find the two tail wheel doors, they showed up on the bench where I airbrush, not sure where they were hiding the half-dozen times I searched it.

I ordered some PE seatbelts and put them in the box with the kit a few weeks ago. I decided to install them this weekend and guess what? The package has vanished from the box where I put them! No big deal, I can still add them sometime in the future. The canopy is masked, just need to paint it and do a few odds and ends and cross your fingers I'm done.

Ahhhh, gloss coats!! Yeah, anything that is a flat colour to start with generally gets darker when that gloss coat hits it. Without boring you, it's physics! Some paints REALLY darken, some don't, depending on how flat they are to start with I suppose.

Tony!!! Well I'll certainly be building for this one, anything beyond that I'd have to take a good look at my schedule. I'm still planning on the FW-58 at this point, but I need to sort out my display cabinet situation before building anymore "twins". I did a big re-arrangement this weekend & realized that there is no way to physically jam a 1/72 He-177 into the cabinet I have. Embarrassed So, my options:

  1. attempt a wing-fold...
  2. build that new cabinet I've been dreaming about...
  3. convince the wife that I've built a centrepiece for the kitchen table, with swastikas and balkenkruez on it...

Funny, it not only got darker though but it dulled the contrast, maybe the lighter colours appear darker now and the darker ones didn't seem to change that much bringing them together. I dunno, I was a biology major- I hated physics!

And...

At 1/72 is it enough to just change the radomes to make an A-4B into an A-4Q?

IIRC, the A-4Q is an updated a-4B. Not so much the radome, as another addition to the spine.

Vance,

I use Testors Acryics as they brush on quite well for such small scale models.I have a compressor in storage but it's 1,300 miles away! When I get it back I hope to pick up a decent airbrush.

1,300 miles between the air compressor and airbrush? You'll need a long hose & several moisture traps to make that work...

Ha! I checked my local hobby shop and they only have hose in the 1,000 mile length,so I'm out of luck!
