Rbaer, hey this Sherman looks very nice I like the casting you gave it to it. A clean built so once primed and painted it will look glorious.

Can't wait to see it all finished!

Jibber, those figures look fantastic!  I wish I had the guts to do that – even painting some, much less adjusting poses to match a phot.  Just cool!

RBaer, I love the Sherman.  I actually like seeing photos before painting and weathering pulls everything together.  Can’t wait to see the real deal finished.

Update on my little halftrack.  In between scraping Typhoon parts, I’ve managed to get a good share of the scratch built rear deck done.  It’s basically a case of measure twice cut once using the drawing I have at 1/72 scale.  The rear face will be soon, and then comes the MG34c turret and detailing.  I kinda like this armor thing! (shhhhh…don’t tell anyone) Wink

I also added a bit of screen to hopefully block the see-thru look of the engine compartment

Rbaer that casting texture will take very nice to paint, its going to come out great. I really like the Shermans because you can use filters and shading, they really show up nicely on of the sides.

Chuck you should like armor, you're building one nice kit there. Welcome home….

Hey everyone!  Man, some great builds going on here!  Very inspiring to say the least!  Awesome work by all!

I have not forgotten about the T34.  Many life things going on right now, but we are overcoming them.  So on with the T34!  Here are the 2 pics that are the inspirations for this build.  The first, because it is captured and I am ordering some dry transfer flags!  My first AM stuff!  Embarrassed  The second...well, thanks to my great friend Bish who sent me some pics of T34 camo schemes, I picked out the one with the oddity.  Now I'm not going to do that scheme (I'm doing a Russian Dark Green with a winter white wash! More on that), but the thing that caught my eye was the wheel that looks like it took a round!  Man, I thought that would be cool to do!  So, with wanting to stretch myself in the armour genre, I decided to give it a go!  So the first pics are the inspiration, the following ones are my attempt at them.  Hope they hold up to the super builds going on here.

I'm in debate now on what, if anything, I want to add to the tank.  The Tamiya kit comes with a great variety of accessories to put on.  2 logs, 2 tow cables, 3 round fuel tanks, 2 square fuel tanks, 2 shovels, 2 tool boxes, 2 rolled up blankets, and a partridge in a pear tree!  I'm thinking maybe 2 round fuel tanks, one tool box, and possibly the shovels and tow cables.  Not sure yet.

Enjoy!

Very cool Eagle! Like the whitewash and love the road wheel with the bite taken out of it!

Don't see much storage in the photos but I'm sure the Germans left the gear that was still there. It might be interesting to replace some of the tools etc with German stuff.

Thanks Gamera!  It is my first real tank build, my first time trying a whitewash, and the first time messing around and altering a build.  When Bish sent the pic with the wheel injury, I HAD to try it!  I thought it was so cool and unique.  The whitewash was scary, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty simple.

I was wondering how much the Germans would have taken off the tank as "souvenirs" and what they would keep for practical use.  But putting some German tolls on there is a great idea!    I am starting to collect quite a bit of extra parts from kits now, so maybe a German tool might show up on it.  Whistling  But the pics are pretty plain.  Not much on them except for the recognition flag on the hatch.

Thanks again!

RB, better to find that out now than later. Something like that would drive me crazy every time I looked at it. Nice catch.

Eagle, how'd you enjoy that Tamiya kit? They make em fun to put together and with Armor, what you do next is how creative you can get by looking at old photos and take a few liberties with equipment, damage, dirt etc based on what you find. Vietnam was hailed as the first televised war, but WWII should be noted as the B&W photo war, and thats the problem. What you find, is the lack of true color and thats really frustrating.

OMG what a nice winter cammo wash... Indifferent

It is coming very very nice, I really really like the wash out, it is done in the right places and washed correctly it looks like a hard rain fell on it. I cant even imagine how impressive it is going to be once with the tracks, wetather and details. Smile

Definitely some competitor right here, a contender for the gallery.

Rbaer

You are giving so much detail to the kit, lots of added work which definitely will pay off once completed and showcased. Cool

Yep, it is  like Bang Head when you realize you glued something incorrectly, currently finished the link-by-link tracks and Im not even sure I made them on the correct position...

It is a very awesome Sherman...German?

keep the pics coming. Geeked

Hey, some update time....finally.... work was a nigthmare this week.

  1. Finished the tracks, glued them and primed on black.
  2. Painted it on desert yellow.
To do:
  1. Glue everything together...hopefully everything will set in correctly.
  2. Paint the cammo pattern, green and red brown very light.
  3. A very light/mist of yellow to give it a "used" look.
  4. Strip off the liquid mask to show up the rusted,
  5. Washes, pin wash, grimme, streaks, rust, oils, you name it..... Big Smile
So, here it is...
Sorry for last pic...too blurry...Im in the process of getting a Nikkon pro camera....at last. Yeah
Have a nice weekend!

jibber - the Tiger II and it's captors looks fantastic! Yes

There is no doubt what you have created, very closely portrays the vehicle (and figures)  in the period photos.

Terry, that is a real beaut, you have captured the whole thing perfectly, from the tank to the figures. I will be looking forward to seeing this on its base.

garzonh, that Hummel is looking great, nice to see some paint on.

Jack, Bish thanks guys. I tried the best I could theres so many variables. I'm on the base, once this is set in there it should really match the first photo.

Hey Jibber,

Man the Tamiya kits are becoming a fav for me!  The extras they throw on the sprues is awesome!  I'm getting plenty of extras now!

Man, you aren't kidding about the B&W pics!  I had Bish helping out on what was actually there on some of them.  Very difficult to pick out details on B&W pics.  But I'm having fun taking a little artistic licensing on this!  Whistling

Garzonh...wow!  I'm honored!  Not sure if it would make it to the Gallery, but thank you very much for the kind words!  There are so many awesome builds here.  This being my first "big boy" tank and first time doing a winter whitewash, it was a little nerve racking, but it turned out pretty good I guess.  I'm going to add some fuel tanks and maybe a few other bits and bobs, but other than that, I want to work on the tracks to make them look the part.

Thanks again!

LOL!  I have been thinking the same thing since I got into doing armor.  You make a little mistake....battle damage!  Messed up on the wheels....cover it with mud!  Embarrassed
