B1 - That plane looks sharp.  very nice.  I'm leaning toward that kit if and when i get started.  I'm so slow, I'm not sure I'll even get started by the time this GB ends.  Gonna try though.

Modelcrazy - yes, the match is just to the photo since I could not find an official paint call out.  You will still have to consider the kit decals as to what they equate to.

Please excuse for the mix up.  Was thinking french blue was brought up in reference to the Blue Angels, as the posting had been made right on the heels of B1's completed photos.

regards,

Jack

Testers 1110 aaay  Hmm   I'm going to have to look for some. Assuming the photo is a perfect representation of the blue, that does look like an exact match.

Thanks Jack.

Back the my LHS I go.

Neat little program you got there, by the way.

Jack,

The French Blue is for the Blue Impulse Japanese team.

That will be a tougher nut to crack.  Searches come up empty for FS equivalent, but understandable since it is a foreign subject.  So what I did was upload the following photo:

.... to a search engine for hobby paints -    http://scalemodeldb.com/paint

Looking at the tail of the aircraft in the  foreground, a pixel was chosen from the forward area that looks a bit darker.  Closest match was Testors 1110 Enamal Bright Blue.  Note the distance match rating is 4.36 (where a value of 2.0 or less is considered acceptable).

So here is a comparison of the French Blue, the  pixel swatch(#005ab5)  from photo, and the sample given as Testors Bright Blue 1110 - it's actually almost indiscernible when viewed overlapped.

regards,

Jack

Cool, more colour study....

Testors Blue Angel Blue, number 1772?

So, finding the hex color code from here www.art-paints.com/.../Blue-Angel-Blue.html the value is 124363

and placing this  adjacent to the previous comparison:

You are right, it is lighter, and I also see definite yellow tinge to it.

regards,

Jack

Thanks JG, The paint I used is model master blue angel blue and blue angel yellow . It is supposed to be an exact match. but to me the blue seems a little on the light side.

Hey B1, great job on the Blue Angels jet. Yes

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the blue, you'd think an American paint brand manufacturer would stock this colour, but I couldn't find anything.  Googling for official FS paint, brought me to another forum.  It seems a member from the Official Blue Angels Org website responded with the proper chip numbers.

http://vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=4305

Looking them up, I've done a screen capture to post here:

Now looking up MM French Blue, is that the one numbered 2715?  Searching for a suitable value to compare,  the hex color code is 0167A5 taken from here:

http://www.art-paints.com/Paints/Acrylic/Testors/Model-Master/French-Blue/French-Blue.html

Now bare with me, here is a comparison of the two values, after finding a hex color code value for the FS chip:

I see a difference, but I know to some it's not enough to matter.  On the previous page, there was mention of a phalo blue.  I've worked with that colour only on canvas, and in my opinion, is headed in the right direction if your aim is for the FS callout.

regards,

Jack

Then you know what I'm talking about with the blue mix.

In the future, if you get to build it, the MM French Blue seems to be right on. I can send you all the main decals. I am going to use #1 but if you want you can use #2 - #6 you can. You will of coarse be missing all the little misc. "warning" and "danger" decals, but you would be able to make a good showing of it.

Angels' lookin sweet B1. I love the Angels.

I opend my Blue Impulse the other day and Hasegawa wanted me to mix up 20% Light Blue and 80% Blue Phelo Bla Bla Bla, something I had never heard of. So yesterday off I go the my LHS with the decal sheet in hand (Hase supplies half of the blue decals, the rest you have to paint Propeller). So after scanning the paint rack while holing up the decal sheet hoping to match something close, I ran across an exact match from MM. French Blue looks perfect. So I will start on it after I complete my Star Wars and Marine builds.

I am calling the Blue Angel done! As far as the T-bird goes I am waiting to see if revell will send me some decals. the one included in the kit were really yellowed. Not even the sunlight trick helped. But here is the blue angel.

It'll probably be there next month. I could also find one on eBay, depending on the price.

I need the work on the Blue Impulse first.

Edit: I hope it's there next month. The prices on eBay are way more then this guy wanted.

Wow! I've never seen those before - let alone the aerobatic team. Why not ask them to hold them for you?

Black Sheep,

Tonight at our IPMS, there was a 1/72 Pitts from the Canadian Reds Display Team by LS for sale. This thing had a wingspan of MAYBE 4 inches. I didn't have any money with me, but if it's there next month I'm going to get it and add it to my build.

Here's the link to look at it.

Ain't it cute!

Hey BlackSheep, I'd like to change my entry. Gonna do A4 Blue Angel by Monogram, if it's ok with you. Plan to start in the next two weeks.

That Blue Angel is looking really nice!

I've been super busy all week. Now that I've got a 3 day weekend coming due to MLK Day, I'm gonna try and get a little bench time to work on my MIG-21 and a '62 Impala SS.

I got the horizontal stabs painted and then I broke off one of the studs that mount to the aircraft. So I ended up having to drill a hole in the stabs and make a brass stud with a copper sleeve as a replacement. Much stronger mount.

That is all for now.

Well here is my progress with the hornet do far:

I laid down the majority of the decals but after finding that doubleing up on them that they are still kinda transparent I had to remove them and paint over the the backbone decal.

As I wait for the paint to dry on the hornet I decided to start the T-bird f-16 in the meantime.

The decaltastic f-16 cockpit.

Last night, I assembled the wings, tail, center fuel tank, trimmed minor flash to prepare for primer. Sprayed primer at my dad's cellar before the oil change appointment. Went back after appointment to prime flip side of wings and tail wings and rudder. Gonna leave it overnight to dry and cure until Sunday night.

Haven't had a moment to touch my  Mig-21. Gonna try to put a coat of primer on over the weekend. Looks like a trip to dear ol' dad's house is in order to do it. LOL! May do it early Saturday morning  before my oil change appointment.

Thanks MC, it was actually a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. But I will definateley be doing more surgeries like this on future builds.
