Star Trek Group build
Posted by mach71 on Monday, March 2, 2015 10:05 AM

In memory of Leonard Nimoy
A GB dedicated to Star Trek

The rules:

- any scale ,and kit from Star Trek, or anything linked with the show (anyone want to try the 1932 Caddy from “A Piece Of The Action?)

-Props are welcome, as long as you build it. A DST phaser would not count unless you completely disassemble it and modify it in some way while putting it back together. A 23rd century pistol would be great.

-Any Star Trek, series or Movie. Yes even JJ Trek

- crossovers from other GB's welcome.

-start date  3 March 2015 until March 31 2016.

-Kits of less than 30% completed also welcome.

-Please post a photo of the box art, if there is any.

-WIP pix PLEASE.

-out of the box or as much extras as you like.

-must have FUN!!!

Lets use the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC in this build.

Thanks for launching this Mach71. And frankly GBs aren't too hard to run, I was a bit leery of it when I kicked off Japanese GB #1 but it's pretty easy. Just check in every day or so and keep on top of things and that's about it.

I don't have a Spock figure but do have one of the AMT vinyl kits in 1/6th scale of his good buddy and debating foe Doctor Leonard 'Bones' McCoy I'd like to enter.

Man, everyone is doing the vinyl figures!  I have Mr. Spock and Kirk that should arriving today, Dr. McCoy in my stash already, and I did Mr. Scott for the FSM GB.  You guys beat me to the finish line!  Wink

I said I wasn't going to do many GB's this year, but with this one in memory of Mr Spock...I'm in!

Not sure what yet.  I have some Enterprises I could pull, but just might join the masses and do the vinyl figure.

I think I'll be working on the Enterprise Bridge Set...

I'll be out of town this weekend. I'll commit to a kit next week.

I have a few ideas, but, if I go 'starship' it'll be 1/1400 due to my space limitations Hmm

I received the Mr. Spock and Kirk AMT kits yesterday!  So I will definitely be doing the Spock, but you know what.......I could just do all three (Spock, Kirk, and McCoy)!  Whistling

Mach71 I'm interested. I'll have to see how the schedule works, this is a busy year already. Please add me to the roster, I have to see what out there.

Thanks and RIP Spock, he was an inspiration for a lot of us.

I think I have everyone up on the roster so far. If I've missed anyone please let me know.

Modelcrazy I'm surprised no one has come out with a resin kit of the Vengeance yet. It's surprising that the JJ universe has not produced many models.

Right?

I can find a Christmas ornament of it, but no kit. I would be happy with a "Snap" kit.

I can find, and probably go with, the Revell JJ Enterprise, if I can find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I got a present in the mail yesterday. I was surprised at the box art on the lower half of the box. Those decals about gave me a coronary. I have never done that many on one project before; should be interesting. I am also going to attempt to light this bad boy, that should prove to be a nerve racking.

After my SWGB, I'll get rolling on this...

I, too, would like to hope in on this, I'll break out my 1/1000th Reliant by Polar lights. Though, I think I will search for other decals for it (or maybe make some markings of my own...). One USS Reliant is enough.

In all honesty, this ship is my favorite Starfleet vessel. Look forward to seeing what everyone's build looks like.

Very cool guys!!!

I broke Bones out and since I'd already painted some parts but really wasn't happy with how they came out I stripped him and am repriming:

Nice kits everyone!

I started Spock today. The kit has some issues. Fit is terrible. I'm not sure why but the R2 reissue of the classic Spock kit went together better.

Here is a comparison of the new R2 classic Spock kit with the reworked TMP Spock:

The parts:

And I've actually glued some parts together!

Looks cool Mach71! I wonder if R2 cleaned up and improved the kit? Being from the late '70s I'm not too surprised with poor fit. Never built Spock but I remember some of the movie starships had some big issues with fit and other things like the very weak nacelle pylons on the movie Enterprise.

I'm trying to figure out what color to paint Spock.

The instructions call for light blue for both the uniform and the boots.

Watching the movie the uniform looks more grey.

I'm looking at Tamiya paints

PS 32 corsa gray

or AS 26 Light Ghost grey

also XF25 Lt sea grey or XF53 Dark sea grey.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm kinda eyeballing the Polar Lights NX-01 Enterprise, but I;ll have to save up for that one. I wish I could slam down $200 for the kit, decals, lights and PE set. That would be great. Then eventually sell it on eBay for a nice little profit.

modelcrazy, that would be a bit pricey. Didn't PL release a small NX-01?

Add a few LEDs inside it and a few modifications and it might look good for much less $$.

Yes they did/do, a 1/1000 I believe. I saw both at our LHS Saturday. I may go that route, the kit is $50 less and I'm pretty sure I could still find decals and PE for it if I wanted. I will go with decals this time. I built the 1701D several years ago and hand painted all those tiny little panels. That about drove me nuts, but it looked pretty good when I was done.

That sounds goods. I just checked the R2 web site and the small NX-01 is not listed for sale. I'm guessing they won't do another run of the it. If you see it in the hobbyshop you might want to grab it while you can.

The large NX-01 is still for sale, listed at $69. That's not too bad for a big kit.

Yeah, and that big one is 1/350 scale. That has GOT to be COOL! Stick out tongue Your right, $70 ish isn't too bad. The PE, lights and decals is what would jack it up to just shy of $200.

Maybe I could still swing that after some budgeting. But I'll probably just end up with the 1/1000 OTB Crying

Yup. When all was said and done my 1/350 TOS E has so far cost me around $350! when I include the Light set, R2 and Paragraphix PE set, Decal set, mask set, and paint.
