That's cool too Beans.

Makes me think though, wasn't there a MAD magazine painting of Spock sticking out his tongue and wiggling his fingers on his nose?

A nice start.

Every time I see this ship I am amazed at the genius of Matt Jefferies.

I'd be willing to co-host a TOS group build but I've never started one.

I think that if we post the group build and keep the end date far enough in the future we could get it done. No pressure 'n stuff.

Who's in?

I love the badge! Nice job.

I have a few more Star Trek kits I could build.

Whoops! I meant Wayne and Terry's Dinos and Dios- sorry Steve, dunno why I confused you with Terry/Jibber. Dunce

And yes it does seem like we're in the same boat. I think it's a phobia I have about finishing stuff. Either it's I get excited, start stuff, and then get excited about something else and end up distracted or I start something, then get annoyed when it doesn't go the way I want and then start another that I picture in my head as the 'perfect' model...

LOL Gam your as bad as me. I have 2 very intensive ships on the bench, a 1/8 Merlin and a 1/72 B-47 for my own GB's, 5 subs in line for my Sub GB in Aug, a 1/48 Swordfish with PE for another GB  and I'm willing to jump in again with a ST build. Man I need help.

That does sound pretty cool! And I love that badge Beans.

My build rate has slowed to a crawl and I'm making painfully slow progress on the Zero for my own GB and haven't even started my Albertosaurus for Steve and Wayne's Dinos and Dios GB yet. But I'll commit myself here if you guys kick this off. I have three Polar Lights 1/1000th Big-Es and the vinyl figures of Jim and Scotty still to build.

I'm not going to even think about those 1/350th Polar Lights Enterprise kits I picked up a few years ago. At the rate I'm building we'll be in the 23rd century and the Big-E will be real before I'm done...

Thanks guys.

Well, if it's cool with mach71, and there's no end date, I'll keep the D7 within this group build.

Or maybe we open a Star Trek 50th Aniversary group build...

Great work Beans!

That is a very nice bridge.  Thanks for sticking with it, and building with the group!

I don't really care about the end date of the GB, and I will be watching your D-7 build with interest.

Thanks again for participating.

Hey Beans, looks pretty darn awesome to me. I think I can the beeping of the bridge computers just by looking at it.

And cool D-7, I built that kit back in the late '80s. Had the same weird chromed parts which I primed and painted over. But your kit has much better decals.

This kit was a challenge. This is not my best work but, I had fun building it.

Researching for the colors was the coolest part. There’s so much information on the internets but nothing beats watching a bunch of TOS episodes for reference.

Wife: “Don’t you ever get tired of watching those episodes?”
Me (calmly): “It’s called research, honey. It’s important.”

I did not expect to get blind-sided with all the fit issues with the operational panels.

The greatest lesson I learned was to dry fit everything, don’t leave anything to chance. It was a tough pill to swallow after I painted and decaled everything. Oh well, lesson well learned.

I could've pulled off some magic if my skill level was better with all those gaps and tight fits but, I gained knowledge for the next time.

I’m not 100% happy with the results but I’m glad I didn’t torch it.

If I ever do the bridge again I’m definitely shopping at Paragrafix for PE and decals (nods to mach71).

Let me just say, it was a pleasure "group building" with a highly skilled bunch. I am grateful for the feedback and look forward to watching out for your future builds.

I will proudly display my first "group build" badge in my signature.

...

I am planning on building only TOS this year in honor of the 50th anniversary. I also promised myself to build down my stash before I buy anything else (wish me luck).

This is what I busted out last night...

I don't remember any chrome being on the Klingon battle cruiser... Maybe this is supossed to be a "pimped-out-cruiser"...I must begin my "research".

Obviously this build will not meet the March 31st deadline for this paticular group build so, I'll start a thread in the Science Fiction forum and post updates. Please offer suggestions as I plow though the build.

Thanks for letting me hang out.

Gee friggin' whiz it took me eleven months to finish one friggin' figure!!!

I would have probably never gotten him done. I hate doing figures cause I stink so bad at them. I would like to try Ironman at some point though, if he weren’t so blasted expensive. I really want Gypsy Danger.... but I guess that's not technically a figure.

Ok, I went back and fixed the photos above, somehow I posted a few of them twice.

Still undecided on the lips, haven't repainted them yet. I thought about trying to blend the skin tones a little better with a light misting of flesh over the face but in person there doesn't look like nearly as much contrast.

So I think I'm going to leave him as is for the time being. Steve, if you don't mind please use the top photo from the front.

PS: I looked over the ImageShack and Imgur sites. The both look pretty promising but since I already have a pile of stuff on PB I'm going to try sticking it out with them a little longer. I've found Pale Moon tends not like sites with lots of video ads and thinking that using a different browser with PB might cure a bunch of my issues.

PPS: Final question, going to post him over in the rest of the website but does he go on the figure forum or the SF/Fantasy one????

Thanks Mach71!

Sorry, been running around and still haven't gotten his lips repainted or new photos yet.

And thanks for the advice on Imgur, frankly I haven't had a chance to look at them or ImageShack yet either but I am when I get the time.
