OTS 2015 (One True Scale or 1/72)

Painting is finished up:  Colourcoats used throughout.

Sky, Type S undersurfaces.

Dark Earth/Dark Green uppers.

Added a pin wash around the raised rivets and panel lines, and some light dusting in the fabric-covered control surfaces with Doc O'Brien's weathering powders.

Been working on the paint now, and have accomplished this much, at least.

The propeller.  Most profiles show the plane with a de Havilland spinner and prop, but a comment I read over at britmodeller called that into question, based on the serial number of the plane.  Since I didn't have an AM de Havilland prop, it was an easy excuse to use the kit's Rotol prop and spinner.

The kit wheels are a weak point in the kit, so I replaced them with after market wheels from S.B.S.  There's not much of a demarcation between the tires and the hubs, so it was a little tricky to paint.

I added a black pinwash around the struts to accentuate the shadows, a dark green wash into the hubs--and I did eventually dust away those little white particles on the tires.

Excellent! That is coming along well. Sure looks like a fun and easy build! Keep going!

Progress on Airfix Hurricane:

All this consists of only 11 pieces--pretty basic.  Harness was made from painted masking tape.

I didn't take any photos, but the seat has been installed, wings and canopy attached and ready for painting:  Dark Earth, Dark Green and Sky.  Probably take a day for each color to be applied and to dry.

The supplier for the decals I wanted to build my 1/72 Swedish Hawker Hunter J34 is out of stock, so I'll have to scratch it from this GB for now, so please delete my entry. I'll keep going with the Patrouille Swisse version though.

I've finally finished the first of my Hawker Hunters...here it is as an aircraft flown by 'The Black Arrows' aerobatic team. It's the Revell kit with decals from Xtradecal.

Hi, Wayne.

Since I am a true 1/72 believer, I'd like to join up here with an end-of-the-year project: Airfix's elderly Hawker Hurricane Mk I.

Just finished one for the Battle of Britain GB in markings of 145 Squadron.  And I had this in the stash; comes with markings for Robert Stanford-Tuck's first Hurricane when he moved to 257 Squadron.

I think the kit markings are not accurate, according to Osprey's Hurricane Aces book, but I think I can cobble the true markings from various decal sheets.

It's a very simple build, so I hope I can finish it in the couple of weeks remaining in the year.  Waiting for the paint to dry will probably take the longest.

I've enjoyed browsing through the earlier work here, and there's some amazing artistry going on.

Lots of great finishes in the last few weeks. I love the Orion, A-27, Texan and Scud in particular.

My Hunter has progressed a bit, here's one more WIP photo.

Sharp looking SCUD Wayne! I like it. I'm taking notes since I just started both of mine. I'm making one Russian, the other Iraqi.

Rob and Theuns - nice job on the sliver finish. i need to try that one day, nmaybe on my BTTF Deloreon.

calling the SCUD done though i still need to build a revetment base and not sure how big it will be, depending on if it's going to be a diorama. i might have over weathered it but some of that may tone down on a sand base.

That is magnificent! I love the smooth, even metallic coat; I envy you your ability to do such an outstanding job.

Here is the alclad on, not overly chrome-like I am OK with it.

And I'm done. Calling it. Happy that this is the biggest project I've taken on since my move this past summer, so, it's a bit of a 'slump breaker'. She's quite weathered in her role in Vietnam...heavy engine grime. Enjoyed some firsts on this build. Used Vallejo Metalizer acrylics. Highly recommend. Also, tried some lighter discolourations directly behind the exhaustways. Will work more on that. Anyway, here's the final pics:

This was a decent kit. Quite a bit of sanding and filling, but, it wasn't a total drain on the build. Thanks to Waynec for hosting!

Hey all...been quite a while since I've updated my Invader build. I did too realize, while in progress, I forgot to take pics ... oops...

Anyway, since my last update, I have the wings, whieels and props installed. The decal job is going slow, but, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I will have to re-do the black , the masking lifted patches when I removed it for the silver on the fabric controll surfaces  :-(

Duke it is suppose to end 31dec but, as Bish has done, recognizing life gets in the way if you start something the end time is firm jello. i don't want folks rushing a finish for a deadline. i'll ptobably start another one of these in May. they are always fun.

i  need to start weathering my SCUD and making a base.

Cool, how long is this Group Build still going? I just picked up two Toxso SCUD B's already, so if there's still enough time, I might submit one or both of them for this.

Primer on, black enamel is on, I will start the pollishing prosses next week.
