Floats and Boats 2017- EXTENDED TO MID 2018
Posted by BrandonK on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 9:33 AM

Well, there has been enough interest that I'm going to run this build again in 2017. I still have a few float planes in my stash and I know a few of you do as well, so let's build them together. We had a bunch of really super cool kits built in 2016 and I am super motivated to do it again.

The rules for this year's GB will be the same as 2016 with one addition.

Here are the guidelines:

Carry over kits from the 2016 GB that were started and not finished or were never started WILL be allowed to move over to this build; let's get those kits done.

Any PLANE OR HELO that can land on water and take off

Any county, Any time period

Military or civilian

Any scale

OOB or as much AM / scratch that you can handle

Crossovers are welcome

Pre-started kits are OK, provided they are only just getting started, ask if you have a question.

The build will begin January 1, 2017 and run until Dec 31, 2017.

Let me know what you are planning on knocking out and I'll get you added to the roster. This is gonna be another fun and cool GB.

Count mein, really enjoyed the last one. I have a 72nd Bv 222 and have finally just got the 32nd Ar 196, but i think they will a bit much to squeeze in next year. It willmost likely be a 72nd Ar 196, which i still need to get. But put me down as a TBC for now.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Put me down as TBD BK.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I'll leave the dioramas to you Steve. I have enough trouble trying to find time to build the kit

I would like to join this GB with Trumpeter's 1:144 Kawanishi H6K5-L 4 engine Seaplane, but will probably be a couple months till I start, have other builds in the queue at the moment.

I started to build two Hasegawa RUFEs some years ago, did not finish them but was thinking of maybe putting one “on the beach”. But I have very limited skills and rarely go beyond just a simple base. Maybe I will finish the RUFEs after I am done with the main build.

Tempest - I do have a small reference book about the RUFE, I will try and find it. We "recently" (er, 3 years....) moved and all my books are still packed waiting for me to make some shelving...

Alright gents, the new members are added and the badge is now on the front page. I am hoping the new heater for my garage shows up soon as I really want to get going on these builds.

This year I am going to tackle a long time build I've been wanting to do, the Kingfisher. I will be doing 2 of them. One in flight and the other resting on its beaching gear with engine open.

I have a Vector engine for one as well as a Cutting Edge cockpit, Sqaudron Canopy, Lone Star Models corrected float and full canopy mask set. Kit #2 will get the Lone Star Models cockpit and corrected float.

I am planning on a complete exterior rework on both kits, like rescribing and control surface corrections and other detail work. This will take some time, but I'm hopeing to get them both done this year. No small task.

Scratched up the missing parts of the gear and used the kit wheels.

Painted the gear and wheels, couldn't find the tail wheel that I had made so am working on a replacement.

Now for some mass balances on the elevators and some antennae on the back and maybe some rigging on the floats.

Nice work on the gear, if you hadn't said anything I would never had known. It looks really good.

This kit was made as a battery powered toy in the early 60s.

I'm calling this one done. Got the last details on.  I almost had it for 2016 but thanks for the extension. Here it is the Lindberg Grumman Goose done as it looked in 1969 when my dad worked for the little airline that flew it.

I started on the floatie Spit,,, Its not a very good kit. But I have it. And hate to 'waste' a model! Cleaned up the parts, glued the floats. there is no cockpit, not that you can see much anyway. So I modified an old airfix pilot fig to go in there,, at least it takes up the space. Added some styrene flooring and a seat. Glued the fueslage. Gaps were fairly significant. STill much filling and sanding to be done.

A fine looking Goose there, HeepeyYes

Would never of guessed this was a toy and not kit, very good work.

Tonka, looks like a build to practice the modelling skills, sometimes those can be fun.  Looks like you have a choice in props?
