What kind of paint was it, Dwayne?  Enamel or acrylic?

I had a piece disappear once, into the toothbrush I was cleaning it with.  It settled in between the bristles, and I couldn't even see it.  Finally cut all the bristles off, and it still wasn't there.  Completely disappeared into the Gamma Quadrant, I suppose.

It was old testors enamel.  I saw the piece fly, heard it hit something on my bench, but it apparently went into the Gamma Quadrant too. LOL.

Gamma Hydra Sector 12? Watch out for the gravitic mines Wink

Old Testors enamel paints are only slightly harder than tooth enamel. I have to use multiple applications of Polly S (now Testors) Easy Lift Off (ELO) to remove that stuff. Not quite as caustic as other paint removal fluids.

Good luck scratching up that trim wheel.

I received my AB air valve today and resumed painting the Val. I sprayed the bottom grey and did the chipping. I also sprayed a gloss coat to start applying the decals tomorrow.

Afternoon all... Raining like the dickins here so no yard work to do! A few more WIP pictures to show though...

Got the base of the Pit done...

The IP done... It will need some more dressing up before installation, but I'm telling ya... Plastic is real brittle and very easily broken. The IP face is part of the PE set, but believe it or not, Revell had a fairly nice one in kit. The instruments are Airscale decals, Generic for WWII American aircraft.

No earthly Idea why I did this... It won't ever show...

And its all sealed up in the fuselage. There are a few fit (allignment issues) so I filed off the locating pins and am having to do just an area at a time to get it lined up. We'll have to wait and see how it does in the long run. Any how, thats it for now... Keep up the great work!

Take care...

Doug

Bish, Damion, D and Check thanks, It feels good to have my AB back up. I feel lost without it.
Doug, excellent as usual. The chains look fantastic.
I added the decals today. Thomas, I chipped the decals with an x-acto blade where the paint was already chipped. The decals went down very nicely and reacted well to the setting solution.
Next will be the washes.

Doug,

Nice progress.  Looks like you have the fit issue under control.   The PE seat looks fantastic.  I like the chains.  Another "I know it's there" example.  I get it.

So a newbie question.  I have tried using tape and rubber bands in the past, and always (and I mean always) ended up with glue wicking and marring the model.  How do you keep this from happening?  Still working on getting the basics down.

Steve,

Looks like you are nearing the finish line.  Decals look great, and getting the decals to settle over that fold could not have been easy.  Nicely done.

I bought a set of clamps years ago from Micromark tools that is useful.  Otherwise, I often use spring-loaded clothespins.  I can see where rubber bands and tapes could get mixed up with the glue.

I use clamps exclusively (probably the same ones you have), but I see in some WIPs that folks use tape or rubber bands, and wondered how that works.  It never worked for me.

I don't use tape for gluing parts together... not enough hold strength, and the tape may interact with the glue, and/or leave residue, depending upon paint type.

As far as rubber bands go, do not apply them before applying glue. I use my hands to apply the initial pressure, probably 30 seconds to a minute or two. Then I will apply the rubber bands. By that time, there usually no excess glue for the rubber bands to wick onto the surrounding areas.

Thanks guys! Steve... the Val is looking great! Someday I'd like to try some of the "Other then Zero" Japanese pla nes... The Val and the Kate are twl I/ve been thinki g about.

Dman... What type glue are you using? I've used tape and clamps (to include cloths pins) with good results. Don't like rubber bands at all. Well I will tape mine then apply glue from the inside of the seam if possible. Don't run too heavy or it will get under the tape and mar the finish. Like Stick said, at times, I hold it for a bit till the excess (if any) glue has evaporated then taped, but with a good seam it shouldn't seep out. Also, don't try to glue the entire fuselage at once, I often just do a section at a time to assure god allignment of the seams. Any way.... Luck to ya and let us know how it goes! Take care...

CMK,

Id like to add the 1/350 Kagero class destroyer to my list, and probably would build her first.

IIRC 9 of the 19 in her class were at Midway.

Tamiya.

Morning all! Man, this kit is fighting me all the way, seems like every step I take, it resists being built.

When I was trying to line up the fuselage halves to begin glueing the nose area, well, Note the crack that runs from the center area of the nose, down to the wing root. That will need some major attention. Also note the gap around the head rest and fuselage area... also will need some attention.

There is a large seperation at the upper nose seam, That was what caused the crack when I tried to clamp into shape.

Didn't want to, but all puttied up and added a thin shim of evergreen sheet plastic around cockpit gap.

While putty is drying, I'll get some of the further down the road pieces glued up. Man, I'm almost afraid to think of the folded wings issues that will arise.

This was however around the time that Revell was turning out some really poor quality kits. The sad part is, they have a reasonably good lower priced product and fairly well engineered molds, but they were using the cheapest quality material (Plastic resin) to work with. I for one am glad they got they're S**t together and are now turning out some quality kits. (Even though they sent most to Germany). I just bought the newest tooling Spit MkIX in 1/32, and its an amazing looking kit! Also the new ROG Me262 night fighter kit in 1/32 looks fantastic. Oh well, Enough rant from me...More in a bit when I get this hot crap soup mess figured out!

Thanks guys...

Doug

Those look like major headaches, Doug.  Very frustrating to have to go back and redo things that you thought were taken care of!  Looks like you're conquering them, though.
