Finally got the short wing B-26 conversion set from Lone Star today, now I just need to find the time to get started.  On my plate right now is helping my grandson change the engine on a 91 Camry, some work at the RC flying field, and drawing plans for another RC old timer model.  I must be having too much fun.

Some of these kits bring silk purses and sows' ears to mind, Doug.

Looks to me like your coping with it as far as anyone could.  I suspect you're right about a coat of primer and paint.  Once you get that far, I think the overall effect will look better than you suspect.

I know I usually arrive at a point in a build where everything looks pretty ugly--but everything seems to improve with paint.

Is that possible?  GB will be here whenever you get around to it--but keep having fun whatever you're doing.  Time's never wasted when you spend it with famiy.

I put the wings and tail on the Zeek. The gaps are larger than the Hasegawa kit but aren’t too bad. I also am installing the pilot.

Looks good, Steve.

Glad to see the pilot figure in the cockpit; not too many kits outside Airfix include one these days.

Great stuff coming off the bench, everyone.  I've been lurking since the start, but have no plans at the moment to join in due to having a full slate.

Anyhow, I came across this post linked on another forum, might be useful to some as it deals with US Navy markings - the part II being pertinent:

Useful and informative site, Jack.  Thanks for posting it.

If you clear up some time in the future, you're more than welcome to join in at any time. Lots of months left in the GB.

I black based the Zero and added the mottling. I than sprayed the color coat and was admiring it when I notice that the color didn't seem right. I sprayed JA gray instead of JN gray Bang Head. Back to the booth tonight.

Steve- The colors might not have been correct, but the mottled look is still impressive.

Doug - I had the same problem and feeling as you with the Revell 1/32 Corsair.  Just glue them up, fill and sand the seams, and move on.  Those folding wings were such a novelty that they were not worth the time to fuss over.

Still no work on the Akagi.  But I am detailing about 30 little fighters and bombers for the Lexingting and Enterprise.

I repainted with the JN grey. I think it looks better.
The decals are thick but were able to settle down. Now comes the washes. I'm going to try something diffrent on this one.

I'm sure you'll get the same good results with the right color, Steve.  Looking good to this point.

That was quick!  And it does.

Scott:  that'll be a great addition to both ships.  I haven't worked with little people that little.

Thanks Check. The bottom picture is my Midway attack force.

I’m done with the Zero. The color looks greener against the white background but the Japanese did use a grey green on their Zeros. This was a nice kit although there was quite a bit of small flash that needed to be cleaned if one were to look close. For the price, I would recommend it and I liked the option to fold the wingtips however, I will stick to a Hasegawa or Tamiya kit for next 1/72 Zeke. I think I have 3 more Hasegawa Zero’s in the stash, all model 52s.
The different weathering process I tried was a thick oil wash rather than my usually oil pin wash. I also used oils for the fuel and smoke stains.

Really good looking work, Steve.  Very effective weather, both top and bottom.  And the three together are highly impressive.

Do you have a preference for the front page?  There's a lot of nice looking photos to pick from.

Thanks again for your contribution to the GB!

Thanks Scott and Check.

Steve:  the only photo I could grab as a jpeg was the shot of all three.  The others saved as "all files," and wouldn't let me upload them to my photo service (which is Postimage.org, now that photobucket is persona non grata).

If you can repost as jpegs, I can add a single shot of the Zeke, as well as the three-some.

I don't even know what "all files" is!?

Anyway, I updated the front page with the three of them.  They look good together; kind of like the Andrews Sisters.

It's OK, Steve.  They came through as jpegs on the "1942 GB," so I grabbed one from there.  I used one of your top two choices here, and the other over there.

Thanks for being part of the GB.  Your models are always appealing and a pleasure to view.

Hey Steve, that group shot is pretty impressive.  Nice job on all of those birds!

Still fussing with the pit on my Zero.  Getting some bench time tonight, so I may actually have pics by the end of the night.

So here are the pics of the Zero cockpit I just finished.  Well, except for a quick wash to add some wear.

The trim wheel was scratchbuilt using a punch set due to my launching the kit piece into the carpet monster.  This was my first attempt at adding detail to a cockpit, and overall, I am pleased.  I am not all that happy with the seatbelts.  Tried making them from wine foil, and rushed the job.  Not sure if I will try that again, or just spend a few bucks for PE seatbelts.

Going to take a short break from this kit to work on a T-34 for another group build.

Thanks for looking,

D

Stev... Zero came out GREAT! Like the colors.

Dman, nice job on the pit... Looking forward to more WIP.

Me, well, We just about found out how far a replica Revell 1/32 F4F Wildcat could fly under its own power, (with a little boost from yours truley). I had to walk away for awhile. During assy of the (Fragile to start with) landing gear, it just crumbled in my hand, again, brittle plastic. Totally un-salvageable. After a few days of looking at it in the trash can next to my table, I pulled it out and formulated a plan "B". Since I can't do a flight deck dio now, I guess it will be an inflight dio after taking a devistating hit in the engine/gear area, and she'll be going into the drink. SO... Lets try again...

This has the Medium Sea Blue Gray applied, its actually lighter then it appears here.

Finally got the wings straightened out so they don't look so terrible...

And thats about all for this disaster for now... Take care all!

Doug

Man Doug,  I know what you are feeling, I have a model at present I want to do the same thing with.

The F4F does look like a perfect candidate for a flight deck crash dio.  Were any wrecked on the island?  Maybe set it on land as is with a few gooney birds sitting on it.
