Man City, those Tamiya 1/48 kits are sweet. I’ve built one and have a few more in the stash. Great stuff!

I thought they would be good kits.  It is Tamiya, afterall.  Now I just have to find some "extra" money lying around so I can order one...or two.  Big Smile

Hey Zvezda, that is some good progress, and the kit looks excellent.  I think I see link and length tracks?

Well, I have just finished the Tamiya IS2 in 1:35 scale. This was a good build though I feel Tamiya kits can lack detail especially for the price. This was probably the price of a regular Takom kit, but has half the detail. The kit was mostly stock, with the addition of Eureka tow cables, value gear stowage, and some beaded thread I used for rope. Model was painted in Tamiya acrylics, weathered with some oils, and added some pigments. I am trying to get a better hang of weathering, I feel it's hard to get that realistic look and easy to over-weather.

I have some more Russian armor, if I get to building them I'll definitely come back to put them on this GB.

Kien, that looks real good! I’m sure that Tamiya kit builds up a lot more easily than the Dragon or Zvedzda IS-2 kits. It sure is one imposing looking beast once built, no matter who makes the kit.

I've just bought a Tamiya 1/35 SU-85. I'm thinking seriously of making the leap from 1/48 to 1/35 armor. I'll let you know if I decide to change my entry for this GB.

Cheers

Tony

Kien, I think the weathering on your tank looks good.  I agree that it is easy to overdo.  The stowage stands out for me.  Really well done.  Front page updated, and thanks for being part of the GB!

If you find time for another entry, we would love to see it.

Zvezda: Looks cool! I built a few of Tamiya's 1/48th kits and they were nice. Good detail and they went together like a silk glove.

Kien: Super job there!!! The weathering looks good and I love the storage.

D.: indeed these are L&L tracks and they will be a challenge (for me).

Kien:  this IS-2 is truly amazing. I am impressed by the realism of the various stowage stuff.

So I have had some time off from work, with the plan to get some serious bench time.  Yeah, not so much.  Between getting up later, leisurely breakfast, honeydo list, and day trips (staycation), I have done very little modeling.  Sad

I did, however, start the weathering with some pigment:

And did some work on the tracks.  Primed with Stynylrez, then dark iron, then used Mission Models rust for a light rust coat.  You can see the rust effect on the left track.  Trying to make rubber bands look at least a little like the real thing.  Big Smile

I like the rust look, so will try to go light on the pigment on the tracks.

Looks good Dwayne, really like your results.

BTW guys, I am still in this, just gotten bogged down with a bunch of other stuff.

That's nice Dwayne. I'm going to have to do that too soon, so I'm watching with interest.

Dwayne nice tracks, that's a very metal looking rubber.

I made little progress on the T-34, JUST hull and turret assembly completed and sanded. A nice little after market gun barrel from RB models was used.

Great work everyone! I have been out of town for the past few weeks, so I haven't gotten much done. I did get some paint on:

I am working on the whitewash now and plan to start on the diorama within a few days.

Dutch, nice job on that SU.  I have an old Tamiya SU-85 that is likely my next build.  I am certain yours will come out better.  Big Smile

Been a while since I posted progress, so here goes...decals are on, both of them LOL.  Tracks are pretty much done.  Stynylrez primer, Tamiya Dark Iron, then Mission Models Rust.  Mig Russian Earth Pigment as the final coat.  The back-up fuel drum is painted and attached.

Getting ready to attach the chassis to the rest of the tank, but want to put some weight in the chassis first, as this will help the rubber band tracks settle better.

Then attach the tow cables, some work with oils, and a final coat of pigments, and I will likely call this one done.

Thats looking really good Dwayne. I bought the old Tamiya SU 85 at a swap meet the other day, but it came in an upgraded box including some pigments. I'm thinking of giving it a run here, let's see.

The old Tamiya SU-85 is no dog. It may not be as nice as the new tool kits, but it builds up nice enough as is.  Add some new tracks and TLC, and you can have a real show stopper.

Actually, I bought a set of Kaizen workable tracks for the kit, and started working on them.  Used a set on a T-34 I did a little while ago, and they were a nice upgrade.

I got some whitewash camo on using the hairspray method:

I also built up the diorama base using layers of insulation foam:
