I’m stuck on the life raft. The kit has an fine one but not great. So I purchase a 3D version from Shapeways and it’s much better. However, I’m not satisfied quite yet. I want to detail it a bit more but I’ve given up on superdetailing it. The first photo shows what a ”standard“ raft looks like. The last two shows the one I purchased.
I’m trying to figure out a way to secure a line around the edge. Of this was in 1/35 scale I would detail all the rest but not now. If anyone has any ideas on how I can secure a line around this I would be eternally grateful!
Thank you sir! As I said in the post, I usually lay down the Black, then the Red and finish off with the hull color, but the shape of the hull makes it REALLY difficult to mask off for the hull color. So I ended up laying down the Tropical Green then the Red. Hopefully that information will help anyone who might be building this kit or the Late War version.

Some updates on the Elco. I’m stuck on the life raft presently. I want to detail a 3D printed raft I picked up from Shapeways. Anyway, enjoy.
Here’s a bit of the painting process. I use Colourcoats enamel paints mainly for the perfect matches to the colors I need. I had to reverse the process I usually use painting ships to get the demarcation between the Tropical Green and Norfolk Red.

Beginning work on the Henschel 129B. Opening up the box and checking contents. I am looking it over and working out in my mind the plan of attack, so to speak...
Options for building 2 versions. Since this is for 1943, I'll go with the earlier version...

Aw, Steve--very sorry for you and the .50's about the drill mishap. I think we've all experienced the same sorts of trauma somewhere along the way. Still, you recovered well.

This updates deal with the .50 cal M2’s. My plan was to replace the plastic barrels, which were just fine but remember I wasn’t going to change or scratch build anything on this kit....
I found on evilBay a 1/48 set of Ma deuces which included flash suppressors from Master Model. Following the directions (?) I proceeded to ambutate the plastic barrels, drill holes and insert said metal barrels. So the first set came out fine as shown. Of course, according to Murphy, if something is going to go sideways it usually does so at the end. I was on the last barrel and the drill did go sideways and it was all over.
I’ll leave it at that tonight and show the work around I finally came up with tomorrow.
Next installment. Adding more scratch built details and closing everything up.
One of the issues was switching the day cabin’s hatch from port/starboard to fore/aft.
The next part to work was the gaps between the deck and chart house as well as the trim that was around certain parts of the chart house, gun turrets and day cabin.
Next was turning the heater into a boat locker.
And finally, priming everything in Black.

Ha, I just noticed I put the kill marking display board decals on, but these were not done until early 45. I wonder if I should leave them?
I got caught with several fauxpaws with this kit because everthing is pretty much set up for the ship as it looked at the end of the war.
It's very effective, Scott.
I tried some weathering with acrylics on USS Hammann last year, but I can't say that my skills were too good, so I cleaned it off.
I suppose I should practice more, but I hate to ruin a decent paint job with my indecent weathering attempts.

I spray a base coat of mahogany and teak, then light coats of deck gray and blue. There is a lot more weathering left to do.
