Eagle 90... No unfortunately I didn't.  There are some cool stories about Willow Run, Old Henry Ford despised the Mayor of Detroit, (among many others) and didn't want to have to pay taxes in two different  counties being when the factory was being built part of it was going to have to extend into Wayne county, (Detroit is in Wayne county) and the Mayor thought he had ole Henry by the shorts, and he was going to milk him for taxes. Well, Henry Ford's plan was to build the B24 Like a car on an assy line. When the factory was at the stage where it was going to extend into Wayne county, Henry got the last laugh. He actually had the factory designed to make a 90deg turn at that end which kept it just over the line and out of the Mayors county!  The way he got 2 completed air craft, at the end of the contract, the dept of the Army claimed the last 2 aircraft that were done, but refused to pay for the ones that were not yet complete. Well, Ford's book keepers told him that the last two completed units had not been paid for yet. He refused to surrender them to the Army which pissed them off, but when they checked, they found that they weren't  yet paid for. They laid claim to them but refused to pay. After a lengthy court battle Henry won and was allowed to keep them. Well long and short of it is, they turned it into a museum until (I believe) a lightning strike set it afire and destroyed the entire site,.

Sorry for being so long winded , but I've  always got a kick out of the story. Again, great build and take care!

Doug

Yankee Air Museum is still at the Willow Run Airport, though most of the original factory is gone.  I remember reading something awhile ago about how some former Rosie the Riveters were able to drum up some support to rebuild a portion of it, but I can't be sure.  My great-grandfather worked there during the war as a painter.  My grandma was in elementary school at the time and loved to tell the story of how he was in the back of a Liberator doing some touch-ups while it was out on the runway, but no one told the pilots he was back there.  He ended up getting a free flight to New York, and once they touched down and stopped the plane he finally went up and talked to the pilots and asked how he was going to get back home, and that his wife would be very upset if he was late for dinner again.  Amazingly, he made it home just in time to eat.

I have been watching the great work going on here and would like to join in with a 1/72 airfix Curtiss SB2C Helldiver dive bomber. I believe this fits the build qualifications?

I look forward to joining the build and will crack the kit open for some pics later tonight.

Wow a Helldiver! Id look forward to seeing that, nice choice Jack.

Best Regards

Mark

Eagle, Snowwhite B-24 looks great, well done. They do look good in the desert cammo dont they?

Thank you sir!

Oh they do don't they?  I'm not sure the paint is an exact match, but man, when it was done it sure looked cool.  I'm sure she was a little more "weathered" being in the desert, but I thought the princess would like to look nice for her audience.  LOL!  She's weathered enough to let you know she was a working princess.

Theuns

welcome, the helldiver is on the roster.

I think the JU 88 was molded by dragon from what I have heard. I can however not complain abouth the detail of the kit, that is nice.

Really nice work on the b 24, I love the paintwork and weathering :-)

I am very close to completing my 88, just a few little things but just cant find the motivation to do so :-(

Theuns

Thank you Theuns.  It was a fun build.  Maybe another bomber should be done.  Whistling

I'm sure I have SOMETHING in my stash.  LOL!

Eagle90... Nicely done! I do like a B24... They were built just a little way from where I was born and raised. I mean the war had been over for about 10 years by the time I was born, and the factory was turned into a muesum along with all the unfinished and 2 completed B24s until about 20 years ago when it caught fire and burnt to the ground. Again, nice build!

MC... Yup, it looks like fun! Lolol...

Thanks Bish. Have you seen the completed Wall-E yet? That was a fun build... Lol,

Mark... Nice Ju87! Also, nice markings!

Thanks!

Doug

Thank you sir.

Wow, now that is cool.  Did you get any pics before she burned?  That would be neat to see.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Sorry everyone for the delay in the pics.  I lost my computer (blue screen of death and all), so I've been getting into another computer.

The B-24 is finished...and I know the accuracy is not 100%, but I got as close as I could and I had a great time doing the kit!  She's a big one too.  Had to get decals, mask set, and extra paint to do her up.  As with the age of the kit, there were a few fit issues and stuff, but man, I love doing these old Mono kits.  I'm sure she would have been more weathered being in the desert, but I wanted her to look good too (being Snow White and all).  LOL!  Might have to do another bomber for this GB.

So here she is....Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Sorry the first pic is blurry.

Good Morning all! Getting started on my Do 217 , and I read up on it a bit, not being that familar with it. Pretty amazing aircraft over all, being (like most German aircraft of the time) it was a multi tasker, preforming and serving as a heavy bomber capible of carrying 2-1,100lb and 10- 100 lb bombs at a time, to anti shipping dive bomber, night fighter, and guided free fall bombs, just to name a few. Its an ungainly looking bird as were most Dornier offerings, but it served in all theaters of operation and under all conditions. So any way... Not much done yet, but heres what I've got so far..

I've had this one on a shelf for awhile now and keep looking at it just waiting for the right time to build. Times right! This unit will be built to represent an aircraft from SG 26 (if I read it right) serving as a bomber in Holland, summer 1942.

It actually looks to be fairly well detailed so far.

And thats about it for now. So far so good! Thanks and have a great weekend!

Hey Theuns... Yeah, I went back through the posts and you know the funny thing...not sure who molds the Ju88 for Monogram, but some "Pro Modeler" kits are beautiful, some are nightmares. I finished an Italeria Me262 kit not long ago and it was the worst kit (fit and flash) I'd done in a while. But others are wonderful.

I built a 24 the scale Spitfire awhile ago by MPC, and had no problem at all, but others have all kinds of issues with them. Well, anyway, Thanks for a great subject to build! Take care...

Roster page updated Doug, welcome.

I hope you have better luck with the fit of your pro modler kit than I had with the pro modler JU 88....it fights me all the way but almost done now.

Theuns, Bish... Good Morning! Now that I have Wall-E finished in scratch building, Can I get in on this one? I've always loved the bombers, and have admired the courage the crews had to exhibit when on a mission. The aircraft, tactics, and munitions have changed greatly over the years but the one constant are the pilots and crews.

If so, I'd like to do a 1/48 Monogram Pro Modeler Do 217-E , Serving in Holland 1942. Thanks!
