Bomber GB ' 18 - '19

Many of you are completing or advancing on your second build and I am still wrestling with the ICM kit.

In the hands of a more skilled builder this kit might have seen better days, but in my case, the result until now was Cramer Vs Cramer

Since the last post, I have done the following

Assembly of wings, engines, horizontal stabilizers and their struts (struts not provided by ICM thus had to be scratch built), ailerons, etc.

Filling seams with acrylic putty, CA glue, melted sprue, etc. I haven't used reinforced concrete nor a sledgehammer yet, but you never know ...

I will not bore you with gory details, the result up to now is this

This still looks ugly and there is lots of work to be done, but I have taken the vow that I will NOT give up and this plastic mess will become a bomber.

Her's my second entry, Hasegawa 1/72nd Ju 188A.

I am adding quite a few extras, starting witrh an Eduard Biged PE set. So far i have the cockpit together and painted and then added all the pre coloured PE.

Then got it added to the fuselage.

Now i have a bit of clean up to do along the seam. Won't be easy as there is quite a bit of engraved detail which would be easy to fix.

Work continues on the fuselage of the He-111:

I'm done with my second build for this GB. Other than the nose issues, the kit went together great! The new Airfix decals are so nice and easy to work with.

I still would like to get my Betty done but I have so much on my plate I'm not sure. We'll see. I might surprize myself.

Here is my update for the Blenheim. After fixing the nose mess-up and masking, I black based and added the tan base color. I plan on adding the green tomorrow.

I used Vallejo putty for the masking and love it. It works similar to PPP but doesn't get stuck in the nozzel.

I have the Italeri/kinetic 1/48 AE6 prowler and even than looks nice in the box

plasticjunkie the THUD turned out great! Appreciate the extra details on the build too, especially the landing light tip for the nose gear. Will have to find a few of those for myself.

The dot filtering looks suttle. I have trouble with that myself, can you tell me what colors you chose to combine?

 

Sorry Mongoose for the late reply. I shot MM clear flat acrylic as a barrier. Then letting the flat cure at least 3-4 days I then used yellow ochre, browns and several shades of greens of artists oils. I have a Reeve’s artist’s oil paint set from Hobby Lobby that I bought several years back for under $20. It has something like 30 colors and they last a lifetime for what I use it for.

Using a thinner damped flat brush the tiny dots were streaked and scrubbed till I got the desired effect. I used a toothpick to place the dots on the areas. The tan areas got more browns and yellow ochre oil dots. The green areas got more green dots and fewer yellow ochre ones. You want to leave a very subtle effect removing most of the oil paint.

This A-6E kit was reviewed on FSM and in print.  The link is below:

I have loved this aircraft since reading flight of the intruder as a kid.  It was a great purpose built aircraft.

I just saw that, received this as a Christmas gift last year. Finally getting around to bu it.  Seems like a fairly detailed kit so far.

Finally getting started on the Monogram, 1/48 scale He-111.  The flight deck is starting to take shape:

Let me jump in here with a Blenheim update.

I've been working slowly on the Blenheim due to some other builds that moved ahead for everything. With being said, I was able to work on the seams left over from the canopy/nose attachment. I need to attach the masks and get on the painting. 

Bish Zvezda and Theuns, thanks for the positive comments. 

Zvezda looks like regardless of the issues you have it under control.

The last couple of days, I had been struggling with the SB-2.

I had a couple of alignment and fit issues with the fuselage halves and especially with the engine cowlings. These were augmented in difficulty by the very soft plastic, which allows plastic deformations after glue and pressure.

Eventually I managed to assemble fuselage and port cowling, leaving some substantial gaps (and glue fingerprints) on some areas.

The small clear parts in the nose and fuselage needed substantial cutting to fit and I decided to construct them with clear fix later on.

I know this looks like a (very) ugly duck for the moment, I have the ambition and hope of making a decent bomber out of it.

Plasticjunkie: Many thumbs up! The painting and weathering are both magnificent and I also believe the dot technique weathered the camo colors in a very realistic way.

That Thud came out very well indeed. Like the weathering ,nicely done

Love the look of that PJ. Great looking build and really nice base as well. I'll get you addedto the front page.

I finally completed my little Thud and Hanoi Special is ready to go "Downtown". I took  pictures of the dot weathering steps but somehow got them deleted by mistake from my camera so here are the completed views:

The dot filter helped in adding tonal changes to the paint making it look weathered.

I made my own blue formation lights using metal clothing pins and painting the heads in clear blue located under the rudder 

and up front. Notice the double Mig 17 kill marks.

Cluster bombs on the outboard stations

and 750 pounders on the CL pylon.

The molded landing lights were drilled out and replaced with gemstones from Hobby Lobby. 

The base is pine, stained and the tarmac is made from thin cardboard squares glued with Elmers then painted in varius grey Craft paints. The joint lines were left a tad wide then filled in with an old siringe with black artist oil paint.
