Eye in the Sky GB

Got some more work done on the Storch. For one she had been painted Three times before I got to where I was ok with the paint job. I used Life Color paints on this build going to be the last time I use these too. It seems like all my jars of them are going bad and getting big clumps in them. Going to try out AK real color paint for the next build.

After the paint went down it got two coats of clear gloss and the kit decals put down. Last time I use Tamiya decals they are always way thick even after three coats of micro sol I still got some silvering.

Got her up on her feet and two coats of Mr. Super Clear Flat sprayed on

Next ukp will be weathering

No one can ever say the Germans didn't think outside the box. Looks good Steve, and I agree, you are moving along pretty fast.

After working on the seams on the BV, which were very few, I started painting the base coat.

 

Wow didn't take you long to get this far, it's looking good. I don't see how that thing could ever fly it's just so odd.

RadMax, I love -51's no matter the version or scheme. I am looking forward to watching your come together.

Bish that diorama is so cool! Neat idea for a theme there. Without it I would have never known they loaded like that. Love it.

 

Thanks Mongoose. I had thought the cameras went in underneath, i had not taken into account how low the aircraft is to the ground and how big the cameras are. It was only when i loked at the Eduard PE set and saw it had those hatch pieces on top that i realised they went in the top. The Kagero book has an account of the first recon flight and it mentioned afterwards that the cameras were removed from the spine an dthis confirmed it. Just wish there were some pics.

Well, I’ve finally caught up with everyone’s progress. It all looks great! I’m here, ready to report that there has been (very slight) progress with the F-6B on my end:

I glued the nose on, and I’m currently adding details and getting things ready for some paint. Happy days!

Your right, that Storch does lok glider like. I am guessing thats what helped with the low stall speed and short take off and landings.

Looking good, Clint. That thing has a huge wing span for such a tiny fuselage. It kinda reminds me of a glider. I want to see the engine in there.

Your Arado was well worth the wait Bish! I love seeing the dios you come up with and the figures you used look great with the plane.  I got the front page updated with your build, and thanks for participating!

About a month after my last update, its time to wrap this up. I left of with the painting complete and decals on. Afer that there was some ligt weathering with somwe flory washes. The canopy was finished off with rivets applied useing aluminium paint and all the final parts added. I used some rigging rope for the parachute pull cord on the RATO's.

Then the antenna wire was added along with the hatches for the camera bays. It was fitted to the base along with a truck and ladder and then put to one side awaiting for the cameras. This dully arrived from Califonia having been let down by a UK supplier and every thing was finsihed off. The scene is not what i ahd planed, i wanted 2 guys carrying the camera to the plane, but i didn't have any sutable figures for that. So, useing what i had, a couple of modified airfix figures and one from Zvezda, this is what i came up with.

Overall, i am really pleased with this. I do like how the canopy has come out, though i know i will do a couple of things different next time. After a few years of almost getting one of these on the bench, its nice to finally have one finished.

So since I'm wanting to display the engine with the top and side panels open I had to cut part of the engine panel since Tamiya molded it with part of the fuselage.

Also got the wings and canopy installed
